Guestbook comments from the owner

We had such a lovely time in Le Manse, the walk to the bakers in the morning, the pastis in the bar in the square in the evening and the wonderful markets in Sarlat and Souillac! We went to the caves in Lascaux, to Beynac, La Roque, Domme,Castlenaud and Rocamadour a few times, all stunning and very moving. What a wealth of history and chateaux on your doorstep!

Spacious house, lovely pool and garden, great location

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely stay at Le Manse. The house was really spacious for 8 adults and two dogs with different sitting areas inside and outside and plenty of bathrooms!

The pool and garden were our favourite, lovely enclosed heated pool and spacious garden with brick bbq, gazebo and lovely eating area outside the kitchen.

The area was perfect, the village was in easy walking distance with a lovely boulangerie, butchers and local shop. There were also a number of restaurants within walking distance and lovely walks with the dogs.

So sad to leave...

  • 5 of 5

We are a family of 5. Mum, dad a 15 year old boy, a 6 year old girl and a 2 year old girl.

We used to travel a lot but this was the first time since our littlest was Bourne.

We live near Brighton; we drove to Dover, caught the ferry and drove down. It was easy - surprisingly easy.

The house was magnificent, more than you could imagine for a classic French retreat.

Everything on your doorstep; buter; baker; pizzeria, bar and 'one stop shop. A short distance away you have mediaeval towns, rich in culture and history.

At 10° warmer than England too, we can't wait to go back

Fab house and location

  • 5 of 5

Fab character house and location. Ideal for the 10 of us to holiday and explore the area.

Heated pool is a good size for swimming and playing games. Great house for playing sardines and being noisy.

Shops just down the road in the village for everyday supplies. Lovely friendly people. Large supermarket and fuel in Sarlat

Although mid October still really warm mid 20s and kayaked down dordogne, visited caves and castles. All close by.

If this is what you are after then this place is ideal and highly recommended.

Perfect retreat for all the family

  • 5 of 5

Le Manse proved to be more than we could have hoped for when we arranged a holiday for our family aged from 11 months to 70 years. Working on, if the children are happy everyone else is, Le Manse provided treasure troves of toys, a sand pit, a swimming pool and much more. ‘Dinosaurs’ were chased in and out of the copse of trees, which together with the daily walk to buy croissants resulted in young children drifting into a heavy sleep with little coaxing. George, the owner of Le Manse is a superb communicator and ensured our holiday was a great success. Thanks George!

Great stay in the Dordogne.

  • 4 of 5

We booked the house for 7 adults and needed the bedroom and bathroom space to accommodate everyone. The house is laid out over three floors. Some of the bed arrangements are bunks or singles so be prepared if you have a lot of adults- someone may need to be on top bunk! There are some low beams here and there on the upper floor but this is to be expected in this type of property- all part of the character. The pool was an added bonus and we paid for the heating to be on given the time of year. The house is situated just a short stroll (less than 5 minutes) into the village centre which has all of the essential shops you need- excellent butchers, a bakery (that made a small fortune from us!), small general store, chemist, as well as a cash machine and a bar come cafe/ restaurant come pizza takeaway. We ate in there on one night and the pizzas were very good- and large! The centre of the village was being totally resurfaced while we were there so we couldn't sit out by the church which is where the cafe tables usually are. St Julien is situated between Sarlat (great market on Saturday) and Souillac and both were within an easy drive. There is a supermarket at Souillac which is about a 10-15 minute drive away open until 7pm and even on a Sunday morning 9-12ish. As we went in early April we didn't really know what the weather would be like. It turned out to be fantastic. The nights were a little cold and we had a day or so until the house warmed up as we were probably the first guests for a while given it's the start of the season. There is central heating and once it was up to speed it was fine. Not an issue later in the year of course. The house is surrounded by a good amount of garden and is fully enclosed and private. The overall location is excellent for transport links, Souillac is on the motorway, the A20 and the new airport at Brive La Gaillarde has Ryan Air flights twice a week on Wednesday and Saturday. It is only a 25-30 minute drive from the house. Likewise there is a train link into Paris (Gare d'Austerlitz) from Souillac although the journey is 4 hours and 30 mins it only makes about 4 stops. We used all three methods of transport so had a truly planes, trains and automobiles time! Our thanks to the owners who were always quick with any communication and for letting us use their property (and booking us 'mid week to mid week') as well as ensuring the weather was good to us- what more can you ask!

The perfect family holiday destination

  • 5 of 5

La Manse is a well appointed house which is very suitable for a family holiday - across generations. The swimming pool has a safety fence so is safe for children. The village has a bakers, a butcher, a small general store and a pharmacy. There is also a bar/pizzeria. It is an easy walk to the river where you can hire kayaks and bikes. We will definitely return.
