Guestbook comments from the owner

We had such a lovely time in Le Manse, the walk to the bakers in the morning, the pastis in the bar in the square in the evening and the wonderful markets in Sarlat and Souillac! We went to the caves in Lascaux, to Beynac, La Roque, Domme,Castlenaud and Rocamadour a few times, all stunning and very moving. What a wealth of history and chateaux on your doorstep!

Wonderfully French property

  • 5 of 5

Myself and my family stayed at this wonderful french house in the Summer this year. The property has lots of space but kept a very french feel. The top bedroom was beautiful. The house is very conveniently located to the river which is great for fishing, swimming and paddling. Some lovely restaurants are within walking distance too. HIghly recommend this property

Excellent family accommodation in a great village

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful 4 week holiday at Le Manse in June 2012 and thoroughly recommend it.

My wife, I and our 2 young girls were there for the duration and had lots of family to stay at differing points in the holiday.

The house is very elegant, as you see in the photos. It sits in the middle of a good sized plot with fields at the back. The neighbouring houses are a comfortable distance away, over hedges and walls, and the road isn't busy.

(We even got invited over by the neighbours to play boules and were sometimes given their rather lovely home grown vegetables).

The garden is beautiful, with sun and shade. Our eldest daughter loved playing hide and seek between the bushes and even managed to befriend the local cats. The lovely heated pool was a real hit with the kids.

Inside the house is well laid out downstairs and has everything you need. The kitchen/diner is a good size and the lounge (with a TV with UK channels) is great for relaxing and stays nice and cool.

Upstairs there are 3 bedrooms on the 1st floor and 2 on the top floor. Of these 2 are large (the main loft room is vast).

Yes we had a gripe or 2 but the hosts were wonderfully responsive when something went wrong (getting workmen to see us immediately) and they are relatively minor.

Our girls were 2.5 and 6 months old and the house was well suited to them. There are lots of toys, the pool is gated and yes, the stairs are steep, but there are stair gates. Perhaps most importantly the front gates shut ensuring the kids can't disappear on to the road!

We had been to Saint Julien the previous year so we knew it was a great village with everything you need. We walked 5 mins to the square to the boulangerie every morning, to get our croissants. On the square there is also a bar which does good take away pizzas, a shop with fresh fruit and veg and also various staples, plus a butchers and a chemist.

There is an excellent restaurant, La Gabarre, a 15 min walk or 2 min drive away. It overlooks the river and we must have gone there 5 or 6 times!

Having been there 4 weeks we felt almost part of the village with everyone knowing us.

We had a wonderful holiday in a great house and terrific village! We'd love to do it again.

Wonderful house and location

  • 5 of 5

Our extended family from America loved this home in St. Julien, the village was so welcoming and friendly. And it was well placed for visiting many of the historically interesting and beautiful places in Dordogne. Our teenagers loved going down to the rope swing on the river! The house works well, a really wonderful big kitchen, and an outdoor space that works for big families. Altogether a huge success.

French idyll

  • 5 of 5

We rented this place with 2 other families - 5 children in all - and it was perfect. On sunny days we hardly left the garden - just strolled as far as the bakery for pain au chocolate etc! On the cooler days there was lots of lovely place to explore - wonderful chateaux and gardens, boat trips or a stroll along the river. The children loved the pool and there were toys, DVDs etc to keep them entertained. A really relaxing break - we'll be back.

We Have Found Our Ideal Holiday House

  • 5 of 5

Our extended family group of 11 found this the perfect house for our week together in France. It was beautifully furnished and maintained, and very well equipped, with plenty of room for us all. The communal areas were much bigger than we had imagined from the photographs - altogether the house exceeded our highest expectations. The heated pool was large and safe and a great hit with the grandchildren, as was the garden for games. We took noodles for the pool, boules, and board games for evenings, but we needn't have bothered. It was all there already! There was plenty of garden furniture, and shady trees to sit under as well as sunny spaces. The iced water dispenser on the fridge deserves a special mention - the weather was hot!

After much trawling of the internet, we had especially chosen a house in a village, and this was a great advantage. We could walk to the patissier for the morning croissants, to the bridge for canoe hire, and to the river for paddling and catching frogs. We also went further afield to visit the palaeolithic cave paintings at Font de Gaume (book a month before you go, it is a world heritage site), the museum of prehistory at Les Eyzies, and closer to home the Chateau de Fontenay and a children's animal park on the road to Sarlat. All highly recommended and there were so many other options!

We took turns to shop and cook, so didn't eat out much, but we had take-away pizzas from the square on our last evening, and lunch on our last day at Le Roi Carotte in the village. Both good.

Altogether, an ideal location, with plenty to do for the energetic and a beautiful house and garden for those of us preferring to relax in the sun. We are already planning our next visit.

The Good Life en France

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful holiday (August '08), the house was just perfect and really well equipped. It was well prepared and maintained and in a very tidy state. The locale is ideal for a restful break, while being peaceful it is also close by a number of fun things to do (canoeing swimming in the river), if you want to (we did).

The village was so friendly, with good shops and a cafe just a short walk away. It was great to be able to walk to such a lovely restaurant as La Gabarre, well work eating there.

We were two families and we each felt that there was more than enough space for us to have our own privacy when we wanted it, this was because of the number of bathrooms and the layout of the house.

We are committed fans and will be back again.
