Great apartment at a great location
Just got back from an 8 day stay in Old San Juan. The apartment was great! Had everything we needed for our stay (fully working kitchen, bottled water, washer and dryer, comfortable bed, plenty of space, and a great balcony). This is a very clean and up to date apartment in a great location overlooking the ocean and a magnificent fort. The neighborhood is wonderful with some very nice neighbors. Next time we come to PR we will stay here again. I don't; think I can think of one complaint or suggestion to make it better.
Tropical cultural experience!
We enjoyed sitting out on the terrace feeling the magnificent ocean breeze, drinking wine, looking at the San Cristobal National Park, together with the blue ocean and the cruise ships coming in day and night. We also enjoyed walking around colonial Old San Juan, everyday we experienced something new. We learned from the perspective as a resident of the culture of Old San Juan. Wanda greeted us and made the check in and check out easy. It has a great library, lights and remote controls were labeled to make it easy.
Perfect place to stay in Old San Juan
We will never forget the fantastic week we spent at this apartment on Calle Sol. It was the perfect location in Old San Juan with a beautiful ocean view at the back and a charming street view from the front. The apartment is easy walking distance to the rest of Old San Juan (if you like walking and don’t mind hills) and is in a quieter side of town. We did not rent a car during our stay and we were happy with that decision after seeing the traffic and demand for on-street parking spots. We used the bus to get to Isla Verde, the ferry to visit Bacardi, and just walked everywhere else.
The apartment had all the amenities we needed such as a coffee maker, hair dryer, and plenty of towels. There is an AC, but we never needed to use it because of the many ceiling fans and nice ocean breeze. We often kept the terrace doors open, but closed them at dusk to avoid attracting insects (although we saw hardly any mosquitoes anywhere). There is also plenty of interesting reading material available in French, Spanish and English.
Although it’s on the quiet side of the OSJ, there is currently a major construction project going on at the end of the street so it’s quite noisy during the day. With the front terrace doors closed, it’s less noticeable. Also worth mentioning is the shuttered, glass-free interior windows which are in the bedroom and face the interior of the building. You can often hear noise from the neighboring condos through these windows (you can see these windows across from the bed in one of the photos). This was an adjustment since it’s not something we’ve ever seen before, but it added to the charm and didn’t disturb us. But, it could be an issue for anyone needing total quiet for sleeping. Overall, we highly recommend this apartment and can’t wait to return.
We couldn't have enjoyed our stay in this condo any more than we did. The location is absolutely perfect for us. You can hear the ocean from the gorgeous balcony and simply walk across the street to the sidewalk that begins you on a walk around the periphery of the old city. Since everything is walkable distance in Old San Juan, we appreciated that this home is in a more residential than commercial area of OSJ. Within minutes we were wherever we wanted to be for meals or entertainment, but didn't have the noises of those activities around the condo.
The owners have done a phenomenal job of equipping the condo. We even looked for a tag on the sheets so that we can order some for ourselves, we loved them so much :-) We used the coffee maker, oven, stove, microwave, washer and dryer with no problems. The owners stock the condo so generously. I got blisters from all of our walking and found band-aids. We wanted to pack snacks for a day in Condado and they had baggies. It was very nice that there were coffee filters and coffee ready first morning. It seems to me that they have all of the kitchen stuff anyone would need.
The property was very clean and well maintained. We travel to the Caribbean every year and this is the first time that we didn't see bugs where we were staying.
Of course we strolled around OSJ quite a bit, and particularly enjoyed Fatties restaurant for Caribbean food, the Mezzanine at St. Germaine for happy hour, and Casa Cortes ChocoBar for food and chocolate. In fact, we wish that we had brought back more of the chocolate bars they use to make their hot chocolate. We walked to Condado one day, and it was a very nice 45 minute walk. And we also took the bus to Condado one day where we rented a car and then drove to El Yunque and Luquillo beach. All of that was very easy. Escambron beach is also close to OSJ, and if you plan to do any beaching, you will want to bring your own beach towels, a beach bag, and maybe something insulated to carry food and drinks.
We definitely plan to go back to this beautiful property.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us and future Guest. We will be glad to welcome you soon again. The VidaUrbanaPR Team
Old San Juan is the oldest city on US Territory and part of the World Heritage. It is about 8 by 8 blocks of unique colonial style architecture and offers everything from restaurants, bars, Puerto Rican coffee shops, galleries, open air music, and nice paths to walk by the Port & Ocean, tourist shops, Marshalls, grocery store to a drug store with pharmacy. The closest unofficial beach is in front of the Capitol Building in about 10-15 walking minutes from almost anywhere in Old San Juan. The nearest blue flag beach is called El Escambron and can reached in about 25-30 minutes walking along the Atlantic Ocean or in about 5 minutes by car/ taxi or bus. Old San Juan has a bus station from where you can go to Plaza Las Americas, the biggest mall in the Caribbean, to the Convention Center, as well as to Condado and Isla Verde, the other two main tourist spots along the coast of San Juan. Condado and Isla Verde are the modern parts of the city and have great beaches, hotels & casinos & much more... Learn more about Parking in Old San Juan: Old San Juan provides free of charge on street parking, which is usually hard to find. It is more likely to find a spot between 6am and 8am and between 4pm and 7pm. During business hours and later at night it might take a while to find a spot and it can turn out to be challenging at times. All of our apartments are within walking distance of parking buildings and/or lots, providing overnight rates or hour rates starting at $1.25 and $0.50 for the additional hours. The most economic parking rental is a public lot by Paseo de la Princesa at the southwest city wall of Old San Juan. There are several parking buildings all over town: “Ballaja” on the northwest section of Old San Juan right by El Morro, “La Cochera” in the center of town on Calle Luna between Cruz and San Justo Street (which offers 24 hour rate for about $25), “Dona Fela” in the south center on Recinto Sur and the most economic parking building “Covadonga” right on top of the public bus station as well on Recinto Sur, one block east of the Old San Juan Sheraton Hotel.
