Photos and Description of this 5 bedroom holiday lodge in Russell Springs - LOOK-OUT LODGE

Log & Stone Lodge, 5 Bedrooms, 4.5 Baths, (Sleeps up to 12 guests)

Welcome to the 2016 season on Lake Cumberland. As the owners of Look-Out Lodge (LOL) we take personal pride in making sure each guest has a memorable and relaxing stay. And from the reviews and comments from our past guests, we hope to show how sincere we are about the quality of our property being offered. This is a great time to be looking for your next summers vacation stay while open dates for 2017 are still available. Most of our inquiries start to come in during this time of the year for the following summer, so now is a great time to reserve your spot.

Look-Out Lodge is a true lake front property. Unlike many other rental properties that boast "lake front and water views" that are seasonal (winter) or obstructed views, that is not the case here at LOL. We have 365 days of unobstructed views of Lake Cumberland (not Cumberland River) from any of the four floors on our property. There is nothing blocking the views of the lake and the surround bluffs from anywhere on our property. The views are breathtaking as noted by our previous guests.

And for our returning house guests you will see some noticeable additions that we have made in 2016 to make LOL a more relaxing and entertaining stay for you and your guests. This includes a new 42 inch Smart WIFI high definition flat screen with full surround sound stereo system with Bluetooth technology in the Great Room, perfect for watching sports, Netflix or connecting to your mobile devices, which is all included. All new solid quartz counter tops for the main kitchen and bar area. We also added four new adjustable bar stools for the 3rd floor kitchen bar area. Also new was the addition of a 6 person high end outdoor dining table with swivel chairs to accommodate the larger groups. Although we limit our house guests to 12 persons in total, we now have outdoor dining seating on the third floor balcony that can easily accommodate up to 14 people at one time. And that's just on the 3rd floor deck alone. Other requests from guests recently was for a Kureig coffee maker for the main kitchen and hair dryers for each bathroom. Well, we heard you and added them as well.

Look-Out Lodge is a four story custom built log and stone home which has a total of 5,275 sq. ft. of indoor living space and over 2,800 sq. ft. of wrap around porches on both the 2nd and 3rd floor. There is an additional court yard on the 1st level facing the lake with another private tiled patio with outdoor dining table and four dining room swivel chairs with accessed either through the recreation room or by the outdoor stair case. The lake views from this patio are also breath taking. We would also include pictures of the vast balconies, but VRBO limits the number of pictures that we can post. Just e-mail us your request for additional photos and we would love to share them to you. We will respond to each e-mail inquiry within 12 hours or less, but you can always call us directly anytime to discuss your group's needs. As owners, we are very actively involved in the management of Look-Out Lodge and we love to interact with potential guests and answer any questions you may have. Our mission to our guests is to make your trip to LOL as memorable as possible before, during and after your stay. We always communicate with our expected guests on every level of your trip so you are confident about your trip and your stay.

LOL is fully equipped with more than the average rental property because it is also our vacation home. We have decorated each of the many rooms individually with fine detail and furnishings to give a unique perspective to this log home. Each individual bedroom is specifically furnished and decorated based on a theme and each has it's own engraved suite name above the entrances to give it that "personal touch" This also allows guests to pick their own bedrooms in advance of arriving to avoid who's sleeping where. Each year there are new features added to the lodge that repeat house guests will notice. And the views of the lake and the surrounding vistas from the lodge will keep you outside on the decks more than inside. You can see for miles all around. And don't worry if the weather is bad. All of the balconies are fully covered so you can sit back, relax and enjoy the views no matter what the weather brings. There is casual seating all along the main 3rd floor deck as well as a 4 person bar height table and swivel chairs for guests to enjoy. There are two outdoor dining tables with swivel chairs that will accommodate 14 diners. We also provide cushioned swivel rockers; wooden rocking chairs and two double seated gliders which face the front yard to welcome your guests as they arrive. These were all hand crafted by the local Amish community. There is also a double person hammock on a Viking stand on the main deck that has been a real hit with our guests. Whether your dining out, having drinks or just relaxing the outdoor balconies are perfect any time of the day or night. Especially to enjoy the wild life or just watching the boat traffic go by. There is an abundance of wild life everywhere in this wooded community of only two homes. There are a variety colorful native birds in our community that we are more then happy to feed so they will stick around.

Look-Out Lodge has a total of 5 bedrooms; 4 1/2 bathrooms; 2 kitchens; great room and dining room on the main floor (3rd floor); a second living room & dining room on the 2nd floor as well as the recreation and game room on the 1st floor. For reservations for 8 persons or less we have the ability to rent down to 3 or 4 bedrooms without the additional living space or recreation room. Be sure to call or e-mail us about these reduced rates, as they are not published.

The recreation and game room is very well appointed for family fun. This is a 750 square foot room with 12 foot tall ceiling which is accented with 12 inch crown molding throughout along with two large picture windows which face Lake Cumberland. The game room is equipped with a standard 4X8 pool table; professional ping pong table; 7 foot air hockey table; professional darts; foosball and lounge area with a leather pit group; coffee table with a 42 inch wall mounted LED flat screen 'Smart' TV (WIFI included) and sound bar with DirecTV provided. This recreation room leads to the out-door patio area which has a 4 person outdoor dining table and swivel chairs which also faces the lake. Sorry, but no outdoor hot tub. Note: The recreation room is only available to a full house rental.

Most of our returning guests have really enjoyed the upgrades and the additions we have made in 2015 and 2016. But if you don't need all 5,000 + square feet of indoor space, we have the ability to rent down to 3 or 4 bedrooms at a reduced rate. However, this does not include the recreation and game room at those rates. Just e-mail or call us for these rates. Please note that we have a limit of 12-guests in total. This includes ALL children.

Look Out Lodge was constructed in January of 2007 by the current owners which is a full log home with stone accents on the exterior. The lodge has a 27 foot tall stone two sided wood burning fireplace in the Great Room and floor to ceiling glass windows facing the lake. The open floor plan of the Great Room into the dining and kitchen area are perfect for families getting together. The property is located in a private gated and secured community with paved streets though out along with all underground utilities. This community also has security surveillance cameras to insure safety during your stay, giving you that peace of mind. The community is surrounded by woods on one side and Lake Cumberland on the other. Look Out Lodge sits high on a bluff in the back end of a cul-de-sac which overlooks Lake Cumberland on the Wolf Creek section adjacent to where the original Alligator I Marina was located and across from Jabez Beach. There is no lake access from LOL, unless you are an experienced hiker or climber. We are the only home on this cul-de-sac which gives you complete privacy and seclusion, not to mention unlimited parking. The lodge also has a circular tiled drive-way and paver designed entrance, giving you a truly beautiful curb side appeal as you or your guests arrive. LOL is fully landscaped with five seperate retaining walls to the west and one major retaining wall to the south, each with it's own landscaping character of colorful flowers, roses, shrubs and evergreens that is managed by a local professional landscaper. We promise..... that you will not be disappointed as you and your guests arrive.

We invite you to see the lodge now by logging on to Look Out Lodge on Lake Cumberland website and see this for yourself for more information and pictures. It truly is a piece of heaven. We are also featured in the Lake Cumberland / Russell County Tourism Guide for 2015/2016 edition as well as the Kentucky Tourism Guide. Remember that we can taylor your budget needs depending on the number of guests in your party, with a LIMIT OF 12 GUESTS IN TOTAL, including all children. So pack your bags and be sure to bring your food and drinks with you. Because we supply just about everything else you'll need during your stay. We look forward to seeing you in the near future and safe travels, where ever you may go......

About Monica & Andy Wells

Although we actually live in South Florida, we fell in love with Lake Cumberland area, which is why we decided to build this lodge. We love the changing of the seasons and we come up any chance we can. In the mornings, we just sit on the deck and enjoy our coffee while watch the morning fog roll in over the lake. Although we do love our winters in south Florida, we still have not gotten use to the cold winters in Kentucky yet. Maybe when we retire.

Monica & Andy Wells purchased this lodge in 2007

Why Monica & Andy Wells chose Kentucky

We built this custom lodge because of the spectacular "unobstructed" views of the lake and the security and seclusion in this private gated community. Plus this has one, if not the best, lake views of all the homes lots in this community. No need to crane your head to see the lake through the forest. It's right there in front of you. Pictures do not do LOL justice. You need to experience this for yourself.

What makes this lodge unique

Relaxing, walking, biking and just taking it all in. You have a tendency to forget to check your office e-mails as you just relax on the decks. The abundance of wild life is everywhere, both day and night. Song birds as well as seasonal hummingbirds gather in the front island to take advantage of the free food available to them. There's always a show going on outside to keep you entertained.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hello Monica and Andy!

I just want to thank you both again for opening your home up to us. We loved it! It was a place we could relax and just enjoy being together. Most of us have Fitbits and definitely got our steps in each day. Between the stairs and the ping pong games we stayed moving. It is such a nice area to walk also. Nothing was better than fixing your morning coffee and then sitting out on the balcony watching the fog rolling over the hills. You could also hear the cows walking up mooing. My baby sister thought it was a bear growling for the longest time. Of course, this brought laughter to all of us. We were so pleased with everything. The only thing that was a little challenge was helping mom in bed. The master bed was a little high for her. We never thought of bringing a stool for her to step up on. Next time we will be better prepared. Thanks again and I hope we will head your way again. God bless you both!!!

Another successful Retreat

  • 5 of 5

This is the third year in a row we have held a wellness retreat at Lookout Lodge. Again the weather was perfect and so was the lodge. We have never been disappointed on our retreats and this year we had a chef that has done retreats all over the world and she said this location along with the surroundings are as good or better than any other retreat she had worked. She said the kitchen was perfect and we were able to dine inside and outside during the retreat. The yoga on the deck overlooking the lake is just the best. The owners of the lodge are so nice and accommodating it just makes it easy for us.

Thank you for sharing this special place with us again!

A wonderful 80th birthday for our mom

  • 5 of 5

Andy & Monica,

Thank you so much for opening up your home to us to celebrate our mom's 80th birthday. The moment we pulled into the driveway, we were in awe. (My dad even commented on what a good job we girls did on finding this house), which is truly a complement, because he usually doesn't say much) The home is more beautiful than in the pictures. We loved the rustic feel of the house and the awesome décor with all the special little touches. We loved the game room and had many laughs playing ping pong and pool, and sitting around the table playing Uno and Phase 10. It was fun having mom and dad and all the siblings plus two of the four grandkids there. That doesn't happen as often as we would like since the family is spread out in Georgia, Ohio and Kentucky. The weather was gorgeous so we had many opportunities to be out on the deck. We saw the most amazing fog settled over the mountain and beautiful sunrises and sunsets. We rented a pontoon and had a fun time fishing and swimming in the lake. We will definitely be back and will recommend it to all our friends. (I think everyone where I work has seen the house lol)!! We had a wonderful time and my mom had a wonderful 80th birthday. Thank you again for your kindness and hospitality.

Owner's Response: We are so pleased that your parents enjoyed themselves and that your Mom's 80th B-Day turned out to be so wonderful. You folks were wonderful and we both appreciate the comments on our décor style of the lodge. But we couldn't do it without the assistance from our staff. They do a wonderful job in keeping everything in top shape and extremely clean for our guests. We sure hope that you can come back again for another visit in the near future. Have a wonderful season and safe travels. Monica and Andy Wells, owners of Look-Out Lodge

This was our families first visit to this amazing lodge. When we walked in it was one of those, "breath taking" moments. The view inside and out was beautiful. The accommodations exceed our expectations. Sitting out on the deck each morning, drinking our coffee and listening to the sounds of nature was the perfect way to start the day. Sometime throughout the day you could hear the laughter of others in the game room. We all think we are master ping pong players! I can truthfully say that no one (10 adults total) had a negative thing to say about our stay. Thank you for opening your home to us. I'm sure we will be back!!!

Owner's Response: We were so pleased that you enjoyed your stay at Look-Out Lodge this past weekend. And thanks for the great idea...... Note to self..... Get foot stool for the Masters State Suite. Cumberland Falls State Park is a wonderful place to this time of the year. We are hoping to see this year's fall foliage season at the "Falls" later in October. It's always a challenge to figure out when the best time of the year is to see the color change, as it is never the same time. We hope you can return back to LOL again in the near future as you folks are most welcomed. Monica and Andy Wells, owners of Look-Out Lodge

Scenic and Peaceful!

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing girls weekend at Lookout Lodge! The views are outstanding, and though we spent most time in the great room with that beautiful picture window, we also spent a fair portion outside on the deck.

There is a good amount to do within 30 - 45 minute drive in the area, and the home itself has abundant entertainment options.

I would recommend Look Out Lodge to anybody looking to vacation in Lake Cumberland!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your comments on places to visit within an hours drive. We have several state parks in the area that we always like to tell our visiting house guests about, should they not be familiar with the area. We hope that you can come back and visit us again next year. Best wishes and safe travels. Monica and Andy Wells, owners of Look-Out Lodge

Labor Day Weekend at Lookout Lodge

  • 5 of 5

This was our 8th trip to LOL over Labor Day Weekend. It has become our tradition. Our family has grown bigger with the help of our grandkids' friends. LOL accommodated us all! Monica is so easy to work with and she personally calls you the night of your arrival to check in with you and make sure everything is going great. Tim, their property manager, is always there when we get there and he has been very helpful with anything we need while we are there. We love the improvements they make to the house each year and can't wait to see what's new in 2017. We always rent a pontoon boat from Alligator II for the day which the kids love. There's nothing better than sitting on the porch rocking away having a beverage, playing bingo at the dining room table, playing all the different games in the game room downstairs, waking up and having coffee on the back porch - it is heaven on earth!

Top notch at the Top

  • 5 of 5

There is no place as relaxing as LOL. We have been renting cabins around the Lake Cumberland area for over 25 years and this tops it all. There's just nothing to want for. It's a great place for our family to relax and just talk. Imagine waking up to beautiful sunrise with fog rolling over the lake while sitting on a most wonderful wrap-around covered deck (one of 3) in a comfy glider with a cup of coffee and a magazine or book at hand while listening to nothing but nature. Our grown children love the recreation room and the grandkids love riding their bikes on the blacktop drives with no worry of any traffic. It is so secluded and its all yours to be enjoyed all to yourselves on top of a cliff with breathtaking views. We had planned to go eat dinner out at least 3 times this year but we didn't make it once. The kitchen just invites you to cook in it. There's just everything you need. Can't wait to come back to LOL next year for our family vacation. Can't forget to mention the most comfortable beds ever. (We didn't want to come back home to ours) The easy part is packing your bags; the hard part is leaving LOL. Thank you Andy and Monica for sharing this wonderful vacation spot with us and please thank Tim for being so kind and helpful and to Hester for having the lodge so clean and tidy.
