Overview

About the property

Roche, Costa de La Luz. Perfect beach house. Walk to tennis, shop & bar; golf 2km

Sleeps 10 (5 bed/bath), and less than 200m from the perfect Atlantic beach. Enclosed pool, air conditioning, central heating, Sat TV, and Internet. Short walk (400m) to fantastic children's playground, pharmacy, minimarket, and bar. Walk down beach (600m) to nearest restaurant. Enjoy the tropical vegetation and the sound of surf, surrounded by rubber plants, palms, and bougainvillea (in the shade of the umbrella pines if you wish). Sit in any of the garden's many corners and listen to the surf (or the nightingales!). The house has a comfortable and stylish atmosphere (whitewashed walls, black and white prints, and many personal touches). There is a separate dining terrace and also an entrance patio (perfect for the evening 'fino') full of fragrant plants. Jerez, Cádiz, Tarifa, Seville, and the famous 'white villages' are all within easy reach. Watersports and tennis (walking distance); golf (5 mins); bird watching, mountain biking (from doorstep). Contact owner for routes and details.

Immediate vicinity: Casa Almadraba is situated in what is arguably the best corner of the most exclusive urbanisation on the Costa de La Luz. Positioned on a cul-de-sac in the oldest corner of Urbanización Roche, for 9 months of the year you are normally able walk the 150 metres to the beach without seeing anyone. Once on the beach, one of the best on this coast, you can walk 8km in one direction (to the old tuna fishing port of Sancti Petri) or 1km in the other, to a series of protected bays with rock pools know as the Calas de Conil. The sea is normally warm enough to swim in right through to December, and it starts to warm up again at Easter. During the summer months, there is a choice of beach bars, and there are also good restaurants (walking distance) that are open throughout the year

Within Roche itself there are basic shops and sports facilities (see above), all of which are walkable.

Activities: There are numerous activities available in the surrounding area, ranging from hiking or surfing to bird watching and ballooning. The owner can help you organise all of these, including personal guides: please contact him for details.

The province of Cádiz also has a large choice of gold courses, including the following:

Benalup (25 mins): 18 holes.

Las Lomas (5 mins): 18 holes.

San Andrés (10 mins): 18 holes.

Meliá Sancti Petri (5 mins): 18 holes.

Valderrama, San Roque, Sotogrande (all 90 mins).

Montenmedio (20 mins): 18 holes (Championship course).

Sancti Petri (5 mins): 36 holes (Seve Ballesteros-designed).

Montecastillo (40 mins): 18 holes (Jack Nicklaus-designed and home to Volvo Masters).

Excursions: Again, please contact the owner for details, but it will be impossible to get bored! You have on your doorstep:

-Beautiful hilltop villages (Medina Sidonia, Vejer, Arcos, Alcalá de los Gazules)

-Cádiz (30 mins): ramble around the old part of what is arguably Europe's oldest city

-Jerez (45 mins): visit Domecq or Gonzalez Byass or the famous riding school

-Seville (75mins): where to start? Worth a weekend all on its own!

-Tarifa (45mins): sit on the ramparts and gaze across at Africa or go clubbing!

-Sanlucar de Barrameda (60 mins): sip sherry and watch the horse races on the beach

-Visit a bull farm

-Go whale watching

-Lunch in Tanger (45mins on hydrofoil)

-Take the ferry from Cádiz to Puerto Santa Maria and eat giant gambas out of newspaper (no chips / no vinegar!)

-Visit the stunning Roman ruins of Baeolo Claudio at Bolonia

-Visit Cape Trafalgar (better still in a big storm!)

- Take the kids the Aquasherry waterpark (near Jerez)

About DosXtremos

We are a husband-wife team that left Madrid for Spain’s deep south and a change of ...well, virtually everything really! We came up with the idea of Dos Xtremos in 2006, the catalyst being the need to increase the number of people renting our own properties, one in La Coruña and the other in Cadiz (Atlantic Spain’s two wonderful extremes). And since then, even though the business has grown (we now manage a number of properties for other owners), our goal has always been the same: “these are two wonderful and relatively undeveloped areas of Spain that have brought us enormous happiness; so let’s try and tell other people about them!” We put a heavy focus on regional information and on the activities that we enjoy, both individually and as a family with young children.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We have just returned from a fantastic week at casa almadraba. Thanks Andrew for hosting us so well and as you say the house really does look great now and was incredibly comfortable.

Notes:
One of the things that previous visitors to Casa Almadraba have liked is the choice of sitting areas outside: there is a covered terrace just off the sitting room for outside eating; there is a lovely entrance courtyard with scented plants, ideal for an evening drink; there is the area around the pool (part sun / part shade); and then there is the rest of the garden, with plenty of space for positioning a sunbed under a palm or umbrella pine. With two bedrooms and bathrooms downstairs, the house is certainly well suited for the elderly (there is also off road parking). However, the house is probably not very practical for wheelchair users. The enclosed pool area is popular among families with small children: all the gates/doors on to the pool area are lockable.

The perfect property

  • 5 of 5

This was our sixth annual three-generation family get-together in Andrew's beautiful house in Roche and once again we had a wonderful week.

The house has a great sense of space and peace and feels more like a home than a rental.

Andrew is the perfect host, always ready to help.

We will be back next year.

Perfect Holiday

  • 5 of 5

Our stay was perfect! Even though we fully booked the house with 10 people, we never felt cramped, there was plenty of nicely decoured space and so many really nice bathrooms. The house was in very good condition and the kitchen (we cooked nearly everyday for 10 people) really perfect. The garden and pool area though were outstandingly georgeous. The beach was close, beautiful and never even slightly crowded. Our hosts were very attentive and looked out for us on our stay. The only tiny disadvantage is that the wifi is not covering all rooms evenly well. We will visit again!

Great place

  • 4 of 5

We holidayed as 3 families with young kids in May. The house was great with the pool area which can be closed off, lots of amazing garden space with sunshine and shade to play in and sprinklers on timer which the little ones loved! Andrew provided us with good travel cots and highchairs for the tiny ones. There are a various different seating areas around the garden so we were able to all be together or spread out as we wished if we were in the house. We also enjoyed using the outdoor BBQ a few times.

There is a vast unspoilt beach just at the end of the road, which really is amazing to have close by, as well as a kids playpark a little walk away but we didn't really use this. We visited the nearby coves which are beautiful and more sheltered for windy days - under 5-10 mins drive away. Roche hasn't got many amenities, a pharmacy, cafe and restaurant but 2 supermarkets nearby and Sancti Petri and Barossa very close with more lovely beaches. We visited lots of local towns and beaches (Vejer, Conil, El Palamar). We took the kids horse riding at a nearby riding school.

We were there for 10 days and in hindsight it would have been good to arrange a mid-stay housekeeping. All in all it was a peaceful place, great for a group and we all really enjoyed our stay.

Wonderful, stylish villa close to the beach

  • 5 of 5

This villa is wonderfully located 2 minutes walk from the a fabulous sandy beach which literally stretches for miles. We walked along it every evening, almost alone, to watch the sunset.

The property is stylishly furnished and well equipped with lots of space, particularly outside with lovely gardens, a shaded pool area, a covered dining area and a fabulous, private, intimate courtyard (our favourite).

There is a lot to see and do locally, Cadiz, Jerez and the coast being especially interesting and Andrew and Maria are a font of local knowledge (Try Casa Luis), and exemplary hosts.

Having stayed in countless villas over the past 30 years we would not hesitate in recommending this property.

Idyllic escape

  • 5 of 5

Casa Almadraba is such a lovely place that three generations of our family have been coming back here every May for the last six years for our annual get-together (and we’ll be going back again)!

The villa is very spacious, comfortable and beautifully appointed and feels like a home away from home. The beautifully refurbished kitchen and dining area has created a really smart, modern open-plan space, which is also very well equipped – perfect if you’re into cooking up the lovely local produce and eating al fresco as we are.

Between the pool and the beach, the kids are always happy and have something to do. The beach is just a couple of minutes stroll from the villa and is a beautiful expanse of golden sand which, when we come in May, we have pretty much to ourselves most days. It’s also so close to the villa that you can hear the sound of the waves in the evenings.

Andrew is brilliant and looks after you really well; he’s attentive and always available if you need help with anything.

We can’t recommend this place enough and hope you love it as much as we do.

A really lovely villa, in a perfect location

  • 5 of 5

A group of us, couples/friends in our 30s, booked this villa for a week long stay following a wedding near Jerez. We were looking for a large villa with a pool which was close to a beach and within walking distance to bars and restaurants. There is also a fully stocked mini market within a 5 minute walk.

We could not have picked a better location. The villa is 100m from a lovely sandy beach which has a selection of great restaurants and beach bars in the evening. We enjoyed walking down for an early evening drink before returning to the villa for a BBQ. It was also lovely being able to be by the pool and go to the beach in the same day, without having to pack up a car and travel.

The villa itself also surpassed our expectations. The living area is lovely, and very big, and the kitchen is fully equipped with everything you could need. The pool and seating area are well kept and the garden is very big. We didn't have children with us but I imagine the large garden would be a big plus. We also loved the large table outside for group meals.

Andrew could not have done more to help us and the bottle of wine left on arrival was a lovely touch, as well as the comprehensive house guide book. he was also contactable to ask any questions which was a real bonus.

I would thoroughly recommend this villa for a group of friends or for a family holiday.

Easy drive to Jerez (sherry houses), Cádiz (possibly Europe's oldest city), Tarifa (and the boat to Tanger), the wonders of Seville, and the intriguing pueblos blancos (white villages), including Vejer-de-la-Frontera. This is the Spain of fighting bulls and flamenco, ferias and finos, and fine simple food. Visit the Roman ruins at Baelo Claudio, the lighthouse at Cape Trafalgar, the old tuna fishing port of Sancti Petri. 30% of the province of Cádiz is National Park, and here you will find green rolling hills, more akin to Ireland or Wales but divided by giant cactus hedges, one of the world's most important cork forests, and a micro climate within the Alcornocales park that is regarded as the last Mediterranean jungle.

Easy walk to the chemist, newspaper, hot bread, mini market, and bar; also to the playground, tennis, and 5-aside soccer. 20-minute walk down beach to fine restaurants and a heavenly spa! Yet at night all you will hear are the waves, nightingales, and owls!

Other Activities: whale watching, bird watching, kite surfing, kayaking, ballooning,
