Child Friendly: Having travelled ourselves with three young children, we know how tricky it can be. At Casa Montalto we make families welcome and have everything you could possibly need. Cots, highchair, 3 wheeler buggy, back pack, boxes of toys, DVDs/videos, paddling pool, playhouse, swing, and climbing rope etc. We can pre buy nappies etc for you, just give us the details. We can also advise on places to go with children such as waterparks, sandy beaches etc
We have lived in Le Marche permanently since 2004, arriving with 3 small blonde children, to a derelict house and to the great interest of a small village's residents who then thought we were a bit odd but now have accepted and befriended us.I'm English, my husband is German and our 3 children, all born in Uk but schooled in the local schools here consider themselves to be European.
We have successfully run a business here lemarchehomeservices.com for some years and take care of many holiday homes in the area. We also own a property in the nearby village of Montedinove( a must see beautiful place) where we are based in the summer months. We have seen the area wake up a little to tourism but it is still very much authentic Italy here, and there are many attractions to life here and indeed for the visitor - great beaches 1/2hour away, skiing 1 hour away, art and culture, endless charming villages and one of the days I will get my dream classic open top car to really enjoy the beautiful countryside here...
Debby Manz purchased this villa in 2004
We drove through Tuscany( too full of foreigners and overpriced) Umbria, Emilia Romagna, Abruzzo and Le Marche...the latter left a big impression on us and looking for houses we drove past Casa Montalto to view a ruin at the bottom of the hill, asking if this property was for sale.....the position is one of the best, the house itself imposing etc etc.... a year later, after many ups and downs we moved here, sympathetically restoring the house since then...a labour of love..
Nestled in a hillside, what first caught our eye was the symmetry of the house, the high ceilings, the central stairway and as we opened the broken shutters the views from every window either across the valleys to the sea, or towards the mountains or up to the majestic Montalto cathedral. We could see the potential and from then on it had to this house or nothing.
We had a two-weeks stay which couldn't have been better. Debby and Thomas were helpful and kind, as was Jo. Yoga on our terrace with AnneMika, excursions to Lago di Fiacra and the little towns close by. The villa itself is exquisite and well-thought out. Everyhting is there you could possibly need or want, and no matter what it is, bed linen or the pingpong table, it's perfect. When we arrived, the jasmine and roses were blooming and it was pure aroma-therapy. The view from the swimming pool into the Marché hills is a dream.
The stay in Casa Montalto was perfect.
The house is gracious and practical and the surrounds sublime.
We will definitely be back.
A truly beautiful villa in an amazing location. The villa is on the mountain side with a view of a least three medieval villages. The owners have thought of everything - comfortable beds, superb kitchen, out-of-this-world swimming pool, books, DVD's, indoor and outdoor eating and relaxing spaces - and all this situated inside an olive grove and a fabulous garden where you can pick figs, plums and vegetables. My breakfast was coffee with fresh figs from the trees in the garden. One warning - the road to the villa from Montalto is less than one kilometer but is steep and a bit tricky - not for the faint hearted or low slung cars.
we all fell in love with this place- the great pool, amazing views, lovely veg. garden and fruit laden fig trees for our indulgence, and the location- wonderful!
House and grounds were well maintained, very comfy beds too and a great kitchen, with plenty of living space as a bonus. We have already recommended this place to a few relatives.
If perfection had a name this would be it...
Extended family had the most perfect time here. Rooms are generously proportioned, kitchen is beautifully equiped, garden is magnificently cared for and both views and pool are sublime. Happy days - we wanna all go back
We first went to Casa Montalto two years ago, to celebrate our sons' 18th and 21st birthdays. We couldn't stay away, returning this Summer. This is such a special place; beautiful inside and out. Dreamy views, meticulously restored with a stunning infinity pool to while away lazy days before lunching on the terrace with salad just picked from the garden. The house and pool are immaculate, cleaned to a very high standard. Casa Montalto has the best of the old, with beautfiully restored original features and the best of the new, with modern bathrooms and airy spaces. Debby's stylish homely touches make a real difference and the garden is a delightful mix between English and Italian. I can't wait to see how the rose garden develops.
Debby and Thomas have thought of everything, and they couldn't be more helpful when it comes to choosing local restaurants. Our favourite was I Piceni, set in the hilltop town of Ortezzano. The chef has made quite a name for himself. Our favourite town has to be Fermo, definitely worth a visit (or two!).
We are always sad to leave. This is an exceptional home from home!
Casa Montalto is located in Southern Le Marche, halfway between the Adriatic coast and the majestic Sibillini mountains, where you can walk, mountain bike, swim in a cool reservoir or ski in winter.
The landscape of rolling hills and medieval hill top villages is reminiscent of Tuscany and Umbria but without the tourists. This is ' the real Italy' with friendly people, good value restaurants, old fashioned piazzas and a slower pace of life. The old town of Montalto and the impressive cathedral are well worth a look around. The next village along the valley, Montedinove has a lovely, concentric old town which feels lost in time, with a pretty piazza.
'The main towns of Ascoli Piceno with its travertine architecture and Macerata are well worth a visit as is the pilgrimage site of Loreto. Other towns are Fermo and Offida. Fermo comes alive Thursday evenings throughout summer when it's beautiful main piazza hosts a flea market.
The beaches are half an hour away and truly Italian in style with sunloungers and beach cafes and fantastic seafood! The nearset beaches are Cupra Marittima and Grottamare and we have secured a 10% discount with one of the beach chalets which hires out sunloungers and umbrellas and has a super restaurant. Next to the sun lounger sections are free beaches with more space for children to run around and have safe, warm sea and sand perfect for sandcastles!
The amazing Frassassi Caves ( huge underground cavern full of amazing stalactites and stalagmites) is approx two hours drive away. Outdoor markets and shoe/clothing outlets provide shopping opportunities.
If you enjoy a glass of wine there are some wonderful cantinas locally who are happy to let you taste the wines. We can arrange for guided tours of cantinas with an English speaking guide.
