Sleeper Sofa and Aerobed with the two bedrooms accommodate up to 8 guests!

While NYC neighborhoods come and go on the "trendy" scale, the quiet, safe, and convenient reality of the Upper East Side stands the test of time. Luxury shopping on Madison Avenue, proximity to Museum Row, convenience access to Central Park and the East River Park, and the plethora of amazing restaurants, bars, specialty shops and services, and the friendly nature of neighbors lend to making this community very attractive and "livable". Everything you could possibly need (including a Whole Foods grocery store, drug stores, bagel bakery, ethnic restaurants, famous brunch spots, post office, churches, dry cleaner, parking garage, etc.) are WITHIN TWO BLOCKS of this apartment!

What makes this apartment unique

This apartment is special because of its location, convenience to everything, proximity to Central Park and Museums--but also because of its unique layout and "gemutlich" decor. Furnished with European antiques, richly carved wooden furniture, Oriental rugs, stained glass, leather sofas, and custom-made drapes and bedlinens, guests feel more like they are staying in a Park Avenue mansion, but without the exorbitant price!

The duplex works well for parties of two to six people, and is perfect for two couples traveling together (or families who need two separate bedrooms) since it offers a closed-door queen bedroom next to a full bathroom on the first level, but a huge 16' x 20' "loft" style king bedroom (with "sitting room" area and half-bathroom) on the lower level, accessed by an iron spiral staircase.

The upstairs level also features a comfortable living room with two sofas and a big easy chair that can easily seat up to 7 people. The chesterfield sofa is a SLEEPER sofa that can be opened up to make a queen-sized bed that sleeps 2, or two singles can simple sleep on each of the two sofas if needed. A flat-screen TV above the fireplace streams TV shows through Netflix and other subscription options. A small but modern galley kitchen comes complete with microwave, refrigerator, gas range, sink, counter space, and everything you could possibly need for cooking or enjoying your take-out food stored in the kitchen cabinets.

The lower level "studio" space features a huge full-tester (canopy style) solid mahogany bed with Tempurpedic mattress, granite table to use as desk or dining table for four, and three antique wardrobes that store additional linens and an inflatable Aerobed (more comfortable than a sleeper sofa!) to sleep additional guests. The antique maps on the walls and lighted globes offer an old-world aura.

Both levels feature faux fireplaces for ambiance: light the scented candles in the hearth for the warm feeling of a flickering fire.

Wtih Central Park and Museum Row less than 10 minutes walk, the Upper East Side is a mecca of culture, fine dining, green space, and running track options (Central Park Reservoir and East River Park along the FDR Drive). Spend a day in Central Park enjoying its zoo, rowboats, Shakespeare theater, ball fields, Sheep's Meadow, etc. Walk south to the Roosevelt Island Tram for a day excursion to the FDR monument. There is so much to do in the area, but it also serves as a quiet retreat from which to launch your adventures through the rest of New York City! Three blocks from the 4/5/6 EXPRESS stop on the NYC Subway, you have quick access to Grand Central Terminal, the Lower East Side, Empire State Building, Brooklyn Bridge, and other NYC attractions.

We LOVED this home! It is charming, and expertly curated, with fabulous antiques, and quirky touches. The owner was incredibly easy to work with and seemed genuinely concerned about our comfort. We were four ladies, on a girls' trip, and it couldn't have been more perfect!

Location, comfort and cleanliness

Guest 1: Such a fun place and so spacious for NYC! Nice sitting area and two bathrooms made it easy for the 3 of us. Casey was welcoming, helpful and responsive. The electronic keypad lock is a great idea but it wasn't working at the time of our visit and we almost got locked out. Future renters may want to check to make sure that it is fully functional before venturing out without a key. It's a great location and the neighborhood felt safe.

Guest 2: Pro's: Location, response time from Casey, comfortable beds, cleanliness. Con: front door digital lock challenge.

Guest 3: I loved the 2 story set up, gave us a little separate space from each other and was so great to have 2 bathrooms. The neighborhood felt safe and such easy access to subway and a quick walk to Central Park and the Museum Mile.

A wonderful long, long weekend in New York!

The pictures and description you see here are exactly what Casey's place is like. It was a wonderful place to come back to each day after some major sight seeing. Everything you would need is available. The location is close to a subway and bus station (even the new Q express line). We had no problem getting from one end of NYC (Brooklyn) to the other (Harlem). If we ever get back to finish what we didn't have time to see we will be staying at Terra Firma!

Great place to stay in NYC!

We were looking to get a real NYC experience vs. staying in a hotel or hi-rise condo. This rental gave us that experience with its location and furnishings that take you back in time. The location was great - many restaurants and grocery stores are within walking distance. We love antiques so we really enjoyed the many unique pieces in the apartment. The apartment was very clean (no dust to be found on any of the knick knacks!) and the customer service from Casey was excellent when needed! We did all of the usual NYC tourist things but recommend that you do the NBC studio tour at 30 Rock. We were able to stand on the sets of SNL, Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers - very well done small group tour. Thanks again for letting us experience crazy NYC from your home!

A wonderful stay

Our family summer vacation really was outstanding. Made possible by a great stay at this Upper East side property. Full disclosure we were a little uncertain about what to expect. The owner from the start communicated early and often. He was transparent, helpful, and provided us with accurate information regarding the duplex, the area, and local transportation options. The place was exactly as advertised. The neighborhood safe, accessible to the subway and plenty of food and shopping options for any needs that arose. We will definitely as our first option the next time we come to the city.
