About Rhona and Carroll Kimble

We live close to the Potomac Overlook,My husband always wanted to build a small log cabin.Since being retired for a few years we purchased the small piece of land and have built this cabin to rent to people to enjoy and explore the beauty of our surrounding area like Smoke Hole canyon Seneca Rocks Dolly sods and Spruce Knob and lots of other interesting things to do like fishing, hunting, hiking to mention a few. We also have the HIdeaway Rental House which is located across the road from the cabin up in the woods that we rent also for the last 5 years.

Rhona and Carroll Kimble purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Rhona and Carroll Kimble chose Upper Tract

We chose to build cabin here because of the beautiful view and it is close to the Smoke Hole canyon where lots of people fish in the South Branch of the Potomac river. For more reviews of the cabin go to www.vacationhomerentals and click on WV and Smoke hole and read the posts on The potomac Overlook Cabin.

All The Comforts Of Home & More

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at your cabin complete with all the comforts of home which included comfortable seating in the living room with a nice TV, sturdy kitchen table and upscale appliances along with dishes, pots, pans and tableware, comfortable beds, washer / dryer, a hair dryer and more. We found it to be so relaxing sitting on the back porch taking in the scenery and a bonus to have a reliable internet hookup so both of us could use our Ipads while we sat back and relaxed. The cabin location is close to many areas of interest which was great for my husband’s photography hobby --- he got some great pictures of the area in addition to a nice pre-dawn sun rise with the stars still in view above and the eastern horizon just starting to transition from nighttime to early morning yellow and pink hues. The fact that it was pet friendly was an added bonus so we could bring along our two "well behaved" little dogs. They even enjoyed lounging on the deck. If we come back to this area in the future we hope your cabin will be available for us to book again. If I had any suggestions to make it would be to include a list of the TV stations and corresponding channel numbers to make it easier to find some of the programing available. We rate the cabin 5 STARS

Owner's Response: So happy that you found our cabin with all the comforts of home and enjoyed the beauty of our area around here, and got some beautiful photos while you were here. Hope you may return in the future. Actually glad you made the suggestion for TV guide for I have just now completed this and a copy is going to each of my cabins. Rhona and Hap

Close enough to perfect for me

This cabin has an intimate coziness about it, and it is absolutely adorably decorated. Everything we needed was available; clean linens, cookware, laundry, and views galore. We're already planning to return next fall.

In fact, I love the cabin so much that if I could, I would move in and call the place home!

This is a very cozy charming cabin and we wished we could have stayed longer!

Potomac Overlook is a great place to stay when visiting the Seneca Rocks area. It has a wonderful view and has everything you could possibly need in the kitchen. We also had some amazing autumn weather, warm and sunny. The owners were a pleasure to meet and were very hospitable. We hope to be able to return again for a longer stay!

Wonderful, cozy cabin. Well stocked, beautiful decor and comfortable furnishings.....inside and out....with many porch rockers to choose from...think we tried them all out! Had the pleasure of meeting Hap one evening, when he checked in with us...so friendly and personable. If you are in the Franklin (Upper Tract area) WV area...this is the cabin for you! Thanks, Rhona and Hap for your friendly , WV hospitality.

Hap said you all were really nice people and I am sorry I never got up to meet you but I know you had a wonderful time exploring the area here and going to Cass railroad for the train ride. This is something I have never done myself, want to soon. Hope you may return and was a pleasure having you. Welcome Back!!!!! Rhona and Hap

Lovely, immaculate cabin

  • 5 of 5

This is a gorgeous cabin--a true log-built cabin decorated and furnished amazingly to give a real log cabin "feel." It has solid pine paneling on the ceiling and all walls. It was just as clean as could be and in excellent condition, including a very well furnished kitchen with new-looking appliances and very comfortable furniture, including two very comfy rocking chairs inside. The view from the porch is gorgeous--a long view down the river valley with the hills sloping up all around. The water tastes great and the beds are comfortable. There is a shower-bath tub, and full-sized washer and drier. The porch has ample furniture so the guests can enjoy meals out there or just relax and admire the view. With the leaves on the trees, you really can't see the river, but the view is still very lovely. It's easy to find and get to. The back of the cabin is very close to highway 220 (maybe 20 yards?), so the sound of vehicles passing along that road were quite audible inside the cabin but this was not distracting (no big trucks using engine brakes!). All the cabin windows face away from highway 220 so you aren't looking at the highway or vehicles at all. It's 20 minutes from Petersburg with a robust variety of stores. There is a tiny hole-in-the wall, odd-smelling grocery store just 2 minutes south. There is a very well-equipped playground for kids (with restrooms and running water) 10 minutes or so South on highway 220. I was delighted with our entire experience and can't wait to come back.
