This is the perfect location for a relaxing vacation. The house is close enough to the sites and attractions of Oahu but remote enough to allow for peace and quiet when you want to take a break.
There is a beautifully landscaped yard enclosed on three sides with the fourth side open to the sea. There is plenty of room to enjoy the natural beauty of the rural side of Oahu. This is a great location for families. The North Shore and Honolulu attractions are within easy driving distance but you can also enjoy the privacy of your own waterfront/beach. This property is close to the Polynesian Cultural Center and state parks.
Let me first state that I rarely write reviews and that, when reading them, I usually reject the most positive and the most negative as both unrealistic. I look for a general consensus. When I came across this property for a family vacation, I was struck by the overwhelmingly positive reviews and employing the strategy described above, came to the conclusion that this would be an excellent selection. If you're looking for a out-of-city Hawaii experience on the eastern (more tropical but can be more windy) shore, you cannot go wrong here. We loved being out of Honolulu, but still close enough to experience everything. We hit all the standards - Hanauma Bay, Makapu'u Lighthouse Tour (sunrise, amazing), Ko'Olina Beaches, Kahana Beach bodysurfing, LDS Laie Temple and Polynesian Cultural Center (a little overpriced for what you get, but recognize that price exists to fund college students from other islands attending college at BYU-Hawaii), Matsumoto Shaved Ice (4 times in one week - obsessive, I know), and had scheduled some shark dives that were canceled due to windy conditions. We also took a lesser known zipline called Climbworks near Laie. We had a large group of 7; youngest 10, oldest 72 and it was the absolute highlight of our trip. It is a little expensive as well ($160) but there are 8 dual lines overall, the longest of which is just over half a mile. The views, the guides, and the scenery was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for us.
As great as this all was, it was the unbelievable hosting by Kaina and his family that truly made the vacation special. When Kaina learned we were arriving on Thanksgiving, he and his family made us one of the best dinners we have ever and had it waiting when we arrived! Who does that? On top of that, he was constantly checking in to make sure we had everything we needed and from kayaks to snorkeling gear to body boards, he let us borrow them all, including his own mask and fins. This guy and his family were simply amazing, so kind and helpful. He suggested several other things too that we simply did not have the time to accomplish. If you're looking for an amazing host who can recommend and help you make your vacation truly special and desire a unique location to do it from, this is it. Thank you Kaina and family!
Aloha! We stayed for almost two weeks in this amazing beach house and loved every minute of our time there. The house is comfortable, spacious and extremely well equipped. We spent many hours outside both on the side patio and under the lovely new gazebo. Oahu is such a special place and we toured a new area every day, such spectacular vistas around every corner. Mahalo to Brenda and Max for allowing us to spend time in their lovely home!!
I don't know if this helps or not but I have never even been to Hawaii let alone seen the ocean but the beach house stayed in made the experience a whole lot better. I wouldn't of liked to stay anywhere else because most of Honolulu is the big city and I hate big cities so this was perfect for me. It was very open and there was a lot of space which I like. I would definitely want to stay there again because of all of these reasons. I also loved that you provided snorkeling gear and fins so we could go. Overall my stay was very memorable and I can hopefully come again sometime.
Our family of 6 (4 adult and 2 teens) had a nice stay at the house. It's located in a quieter part of the island which was great. We didn't really have a beach because the tide always seemed to be high when we would be out in the water. We are very thankful for one of the local fishermen that was fishing one morning when my younger son was out swimming with some of our family members he was stung by a man-o-war jellyfish. The fishermen told us what to do.
The house was just right for our family. Thank you for a lovely stay in your lovely home.
We were 3 couples from Australia on our first trip to Hawaii and we found this place on VRBO. Our initial thoughts from the photos on the web were that is should suit us perfectly as a very affordable accommodation for our stay. What we found when we arrived was a stunning, private oasis that had everything we needed! 3 bedrooms and a bathroom for each couple, a huge kitchen with new appliances and everything you need to cook up a storm, 2 living areas, a tv with streaming in case of rainy days and of course the huge lawn that fed straight on to the (basically private) beach.
The out of town location meant it was quiet but the supermarket was still pretty close and there were a few eatery's within walking distance. And of course the Cultural Center is 10mins up the road.
The drive in to Waikiki was only about 40mins outside of peak hour. As long as you planned it right, then you didn't have to deal with traffic.
We only traveled in to the city 3 times as we didn't really want to leave the house! Grab the deckchairs, an esky and sit in the ocean having a few bevvies while taking in the stunning views of the mountains or the waves crashing on the reef.
Rest assured, we will be back. It was damn near next year, as we returned home to even cheaper flights! But alas, a new baby on the way and a new home purchase means the next trip will need to wait a while.
Thank you so much to the owners. You have defintely createdsome Hawaii lovin' Aussies!!!
