This is definitely a peaceful retreat
The design of this house is perfect. The living room is glassed with sliding glass doors on three sides and we were lucky enough to be there during a time when neither air conditioning or heat was required. The ocean breeze through the house was just heavenly. The deck has wonderfully comfortable furniture and the living room was very comfortable as well. We prepared most of our own meals and the kitchen had all the utensils we needed. We only used the master bedroom, but the bed was very comfortable and the master also has a beautiful view. The location was peaceful and quiet. We will definitely return.
Thanks for the nice review. I'm glad you enjoyed our Beach Plantation.
Mid October on St. George
We really enjoyed our stay here! The house itself is very nice and well appointed but we all commented (more than once) that the large veranda with nice chairs and great view of the Gulf is the best part of the house. Unless being on the beach is an absolute must, this is just about a perfect location with a 2-3 minute walk to the beach and being in the Plantation which is pretty and well maintained. We plan to return.
My husband and I stayed here with our 3 children and dog, and had a wonderful time! It was one of the most relaxing vacations we've ever had. I love the street the house is on, it was very private and just a short walk to the beach. The kids were able to ride their bikes all around the house and the bike path was great for walking. The beach was amazing, and we found some great shells and went crab hunting with the kids. The pool is just a quick bike ride/drive away (2 streets over) and was fantastic (it was huge and very relaxing). The house was clean and comfortable and well decorated. We enjoyed sitting on the balcony and listening to the waves each night. We can't wait for our next visit!
Our stay was a good one with perfect weather, our family and friends. The owner worked with us so we were able to bring our 3 dachshund and one catahoula to enjoy family time.
The house is nice however does have some maintenance issues. In renting from VRBO in the past we paid attention to the rating, it used to be ratings A thru C level. I would rate this a C level rental. There was only one bath towel per person and we were asked not to use them to take off make-up that they would provide make up towelettes and those were not there, thankfully I had brought dark wash rags for that and dishtowels with us because there was only one dish towel and dish rag.
The kitchen is not stocked very well with pots and pans or utensils for normal cooking, however we may be the odd guest and not eat out alot. One of the main issues we had was the lack of elevator or wider stairs in the house, even our athletic 20 somethings had an issue towards the end of the week with the steep stairs to go up to the living area.
The house is set up for 8 people however there is not really comfortable seating in the living room for that many, and the pricing shown on the website is for two people with extra due per person per day(be aware of this).
Please note that this is not a bad review, I just want anyone who is going to rent this property to be aware of the issues we had. It has a beautiful deck on each level, wonderful amenities(even though the main pool was closed while we were there) and that get away feel we wanted on our vacation.
Amazing family vacation!
We had an amazing week at the Beach Plantation! The house is roomy, open and comfortable. The proximity to the beach was great - amazing views of the ocean and sunrises! The house was clean, had everything we needed and was perfect for our family! We will definitely be back! The owner was extremely responsive, helpful and nice! Highly recommend the Beach Plantation! We had a great visit!
Family vacation in St. George
I will start by naming the positives of this home because there are a few:
1. The location is perfect. It's located in St. George Plantation; a gated, private, quiet & well kept community about 10 min. away from "downtown St. George". The beach is very private. The home is about a 7 min. walk to the boardwalk & beach.
2. The view from the balconies of the home are gorgeous. The home is across the street from the beach, but your view of the beach & ocean is mostly unobstructed.
3. Communication with the property manager was thorough & quick. We were provided with all of the info we needed to access the home, check in/out & pool (pool and fitness center are just about a 3 min. drive down the road).
Now to the negatives of this home, & I'm afraid there are quite a few:
1. The house is in desperate need of maintenance & updating. The exterior paint was rusted all over, & the interior paint was in bad shape and scuffed in many places. Furniture was worn down, stained & one of the sofas has a huge rip in the fabric in the back. The kitchen cabinets were in bad shape. The loft shower did not drain properly. My dad said the water came up to his ankles every shower. You can tell this home was once absolutely gorgeous & at its prime, but it just appears that no significant amount of money & time has been spent giving it love some serious TLC & maintenance it so desperately needs.
2. The layout of the house is not suitable for a group of adults. The first floor has a nice sized master & en suite bathroom, but the other bedroom is a small queen that shares a tiny bathroom with another bedroom with twin beds. My sister & her husband stayed in the queen bedroom & said the bathroom was a real challenge to share with just 1 other person. The other bedroom is a loft (with no AC, so has the potential to be very hot) with a day bed, a twin bed & additional beds underneath them. There is a small full bathroom that my dad said was very hard to maneuver. This loft is really just for kids.
3. The home was not properly cleaned. There was trash outside on the balcony, dust an inch thick on the headboard in the master bedroom, just to name a few. Unacceptable when the cleaning fee is so high. The owners should strongly consider hiring another cleaning service.
4. Not enough towels are provided and what is provided barely covers your body.
Bottom line is the pictures do not accurately represent the home & home is in need of work. But views and location are great.
Sorry, our house has been very occupied, and we don't always have the chance to do perfect maintenance and cleaning, but we make sure it's acceptable for most guests. Staff has been alerted and will be more vigilant. We are aware that it needs some upgrades and renovations. We just installed a new dining table and chairs, and more new furniture is coming soon. In November we are doing a complete renovation. Thanks.
Many good restaurants and nightclubs on St. George Island. Great clean quiet beaches. Enjoy fresh local seafood. Go biking, kayaking, fishing, hiking. Experience the Dr. Julian G. Bruce St. George Island State Park.
Located just off North Florida's Gulf Coast, the 28-mile St. George Island is one of the last inhabited yet unspoiled barrier islands in Florida – and it is a serene and pet-friendly vacation paradise. The island consistently rates as one of the top beaches in the U.S., with miles of uncrowded expanses for sunning and shelling, clear Gulf waters for swimming and fishing, and pristine marshes for wildlife viewing. The island is protected by low-density zoning and strict building codes. This makes St. George a tranquil beach community with no high rises or chain stores.
Franklin County features more than 250 miles of salty shoreline that stretches from Alligator Point to Apalachicola. St. George Island is the area’s premier beach destination and is home to one of America’s Top Ten beaches.
Explore Apalachicola’s history, discover unique boutiques and enjoy fresh Apalachicola Bay seafood in area restaurants. In Carrabelle, play golf on a championship course, plan a boating or fishing trip from the area’s natural deep-water harbor or visit a museum. Climb historic lighthouses or watch fishing boats unload their catch along an authentic working waterfront. Festivals occur year-round so there’s always something to do.
