This property is a unique historic carriage house of extraordinary design, formerly the studio of a metal sculptor. Very high ceilings, artistically styled, fabulous space and location. Modern decor, many pieces made by the sculptor and furniture designer. Loft bedroom, all the comforts while staying in an actual piece of art! The kitchen and bathroom have recently been remodeled with quality: artisan crafted cabinets in the kitchen and unique modern bathroom design by an artist.
Downstairs is an open floor space. The dining table is the artist's refinished work table. Much of the furniture is uniquely crafted as well.Upstairs is a brand new queen bed and several comfy seating areas for working or reading.
Everything is fresh as it has been recently renovated; all the bedding, dishes, etc are brand new. The carriage house has been featured in the Washington Post and has twice been chosen to be on the Dupont Circle House Tour and the Logan Circle House Tour.
This carriage house, or studio as we always call it, is a private space for guests with a private entrance. It's like having your own little home with everything you need to be comfortable. There is an area in front of the carriage house where you can hang out in good weather with chairs and a table and umbrella.
The Dupont-Logan neighborhood is central to shopping, dining, clubs and walking distance to just about everything you might want to do in DC. Parks are nearby, Metro, Bike-sharing, steps away.
Please note that you must walk down a short, and safe alley to get to the carriage house. Please do not go to any of the row houses to access the location. They are not associated with the space.
I stayed in the studio while here on a work trip and in advance of a wedding in Maryland. I used to live in DC so I was keen on staying in a great neighborhood. It doesn't get much better than this. Right next to 14th street and a 5 minute walk to U street, this converted artist's studio is the perfect place to call home while in town. The unit itself is incredibly well kept and the art on display makes it a truly unique experience. As for noise, the unit is tucked away off of the main road so it's very quiet. Susan was very helpful in the process. If I'm back in DC again I will definitely look for availability here. I had a wonderful stay.
We were in search of a convenient place to retreat from the heat, hustle and bustle of DC, a place with character and comfort, and we found it!
Thanks to Susan, who was a very responsive and helpful host, we were immediately assured that we would have everything we needed - a comfortable bed (plus a good air bed for when sister came to visit), a well-equipped kitchen, and a pleasant, quiet refuge in a great location.
This is walking distance from Dupont and Logan Circle, 14th Street shops, restaurants and busses, a quick cab/uber/bus/metro ride from the Mall, and yet you are in a quiet space, tucked away from the street in this quirky, one-of-a-kind artist studio/carriage house.
The only reason to hesitate (for some) is the bathroom is downstairs from the bedroom. That wasn't a problem for us.
Everything you need is thoughtfully provided - bathroom and kitchen well-stocked, you an easily stay for a week (which we did!)
We really enjoyed our 4 night stay in the carriage house. It's unique features and great location made for a wonderful experience. There are several excellent bars and restruants just a block away on 14th street. City-share bicycles are also conveniently located right around the corner. Though we never cooked any meals, the kitchen is fully stocked with anything you may need. Susan is a wonderful host and very attentive to whatever you may need. My husband and I highly recommend the carriage house to anyone who is looking to completely submerse themselves in DC living.
We really enjoyed our visit to Washington and staying at the Carriage House made it all that much better. The studio is definitely a great alternative to a regular apartment or hotel room. The artwork and creative designs are spectacular and it was fantastic to hear the owner, Susan's stories of the carriage house and the fantastic pieces there. The studio is very well outfitted with everything you could possibly need. Susan was very helpful with tips of things to do in the neighbourhood and places to go. She was available to answer questions and checked in to see how we were doing a few times. The Carriage House is tucked behind the street which made it very quiet which was great. It is a short walk to grocery stores, coffee shops and a great variety of restaurants. The subway was only a 10 minute walk which took us down to the Smithsonian and even the Washington National's baseball stadium. We really enjoyed our stay at the Carriage House and Susan is a fantastic hostess. We would definitely stay again the next time we visit Washington!
The hostess was extremely helpful and kind. The Carriage House itself is truly unique and lovely. Everything one would need for as comfortable stay is there.
The location is perfectly situated-close to everything. There is shopping and fantastic restaurants in very close walking distance. Transportation is a breeze as Capital Bikes are close by as is the metrro.
The area is absolutely gorgeous.
We enjoyed our stay immensely and can't wait to to back!!!
Absolutely loved our home away from home. It was fun staying in a Sculputor's studio turned vacation rental with a lot of his work on site in and outside. It was well equipped for a weekend stay. There was no washer/dryer, but that was fine as we only stayed two nites. There was only one bath on the bottom floor and upstairs is the bedroom. Susan was very helpful in meeting us and showing us what we needed to know. It is great for two people, not really appropriate for young children. The neightborhood was safe & quiet. I would highly recommend it to freinds and family. We also enjoyed looking up the Sculpturor, Robert Cole on the internet to see him in action and his marvelous work both privatley & publicly displayed.
The Dupont Logan area is one of DC's hottest neighborhoods noted for proximity to restaurants, entertainment, parks and shopping. Monuments and downtown DC are near as well. Transportation is easy with bikesharing, cabs, Ubers, metro and buses. Walking is great too! All this is going on, yet the property is in a quiet location.
