Artist Studio Carriage House

Bedrooms 1
Property type studio
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

1 BR 1 BA Sleeps

This property is a unique historic carriage house of extraordinary design, formerly the studio of a metal sculptor. Very high ceilings, artistically styled, fabulous space and location. Modern decor, many pieces made by the sculptor and furniture designer. Loft bedroom, all the comforts while staying in an actual piece of art! The kitchen and bathroom have recently been remodeled with quality: artisan crafted cabinets in the kitchen and unique modern bathroom design by an artist.

Downstairs is an open floor space. The dining table is the artist's refinished work table. Much of the furniture is uniquely crafted as well.Upstairs is a brand new queen bed and several comfy seating areas for working or reading.

Everything is fresh as it has been recently renovated; all the bedding, dishes, etc are brand new. The carriage house has been featured in the Washington Post and has twice been chosen to be on the Dupont Circle House Tour and the Logan Circle House Tour.

This carriage house, or studio as we always call it, is a private space for guests with a private entrance. It's like having your own little home with everything you need to be comfortable. There is an area in front of the carriage house where you can hang out in good weather with chairs and a table and umbrella.

The Dupont-Logan neighborhood is central to shopping, dining, clubs and walking distance to just about everything you might want to do in DC. Parks are nearby, Metro, Bike-sharing, steps away.

Please note that you must walk down a short, and safe alley to get to the carriage house. Please do not go to any of the row houses to access the location. They are not associated with the space.

This is an historic carriage house featured on House tours in Dupont Circle and Logan circle. It was an artist's studio for many years where metal sculpture was produced. It is located in a fabulous neighborhood with so many activities at one's fingertips or totes: monuments, parks, restaurants, markets, restaurants, theaters ( movies and plays), music venues. It rocks!

Unique property in a great neighborhood!

  • 5 of 5

Just steps away from oodles of restaurants on 14th, a mile from the White House, a half-mile from Dupont Circle, this is a cozy two story converted carriage house. The artwork is phenomenal and will enrich your views and the stay! Loved it and would return!

The carriage house is in a fantastic location. Plenty of restaurants and coffee shops nearby and a short ride to the attractions. It was clean and offered anything you would need. Bed was comfy too!

Best place to stay in DC!

  • 5 of 5

This studio was the best place I could have stayed in DC. The place was clean and had so much character. Susan was the sweetest and most cooperative host. The place is right in the mix of things and I hope I can visit again.

Comfort + Art + Location = PERFECTION!

  • 5 of 5

This was our first time to DC, and we wanted a special vacation rental in a great location that didn't break the bank. Susan Cole's Artist Studio Carriage House (ASCH) could not have met these criteria any more perfectly! First of all, Susan Cole is an amazing host/owner, so very personable and welcoming. As the location of the ASCH is a little off-the-beaten-path, we met Susan at her home about a block away, and she walked us over to the ASCH, then showed us where things were, etc. She made it clear that if we needed anything or had any further questions, we were welcome to call on her; as it was, we didn't need another thing. You just have to see this beautiful place to truly appreciate it..... Susan's late husband, Robert, was the artist who created this fantastical, interesting, eclectic space, both inside and outside, with metal sculptures ranging from about the size of a loaf of bread to more than 10 feet tall, all created right here. Everywhere you turn you see his passionate, creative hand, from the beautiful front doors, to the stairs and railings, to numerous small tables and stools, lamps, shelving, embellishments, and various other art and objects. You are staying IN a work of art! The space is super clean, kitchen is compact but well-appointed, the shower is wonderful with more than enough hot water available, the bed and linens are very comfortable. There is a neighbor in the attached, next door carriage house, but we never heard them. We didn't mind walking the 6 or so blocks to the Whole Foods store -- it's a beautiful neighborhood and an easy walk. Numerous restaurants and bars were within about the same distance in several different directions. When we didn't want to walk, UBER provided virtually immediate pick-ups and quick, easy transport everywhere else we needed or wanted to go. Our only 'critique' of the property would be to inform renters that there are several windows and 2 large skylights upstairs -- one of which is right over the bed. If you are one of those sleepers (like me) who needs or prefers total darkness, then simply be sure to have a sleep mask handy (as I did) to slip on once day begins to dawn. And, the heater worked very well, albeit with a bit of a 'bang' as it cycled on and off. We can absolutely assure you that these are the smallest of "issues"!! We feel so extremely lucky to have discovered the Artist Studio Carriage House, and we wholeheartedly recommend it to other travelers to DC!

Great location! Will stay again.

  • 4 of 5

Really enjoyed this unique property. It has everything needed for a comfortable visit. We even entertained the people we were visiting in DC since this carriage house was bigger than their apartment. The only things I could have used that we didn't have available were a large salad bowl and some tongs! (I'm sure Susan would have lent one if I had called!) Nicely appointed and quite comfortable. Great shower! Will stay again!

Perfect spot, privacy and location

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The carriage house is simply delightful. It was clean, spacious, allowed us lots of privacy yet close proximity to restaurants, bars, and DC attractions. We loved all of the artistic details throughout the space. Susan was a gracious host and available for anything we might need.

Car: not necessary

The Dupont Logan area is one of DC's hottest neighborhoods noted for proximity to restaurants, entertainment, parks and shopping. Monuments and downtown DC are near as well. Transportation is easy with bikesharing, cabs, Ubers, metro and buses. Walking is great too! All this is going on, yet the property is in a quiet location.
