We only have winter openings left between mid-February and the end of March.
The days that are close to when another rental starts or finishes are discounted heavily. So, if you're seeking the best prices, go to the calendar or rates page and view the open days that fall closest to the booked dates. They will be discounted between 15% and 40% depending on how close they are to another booking.
We discount these to minimize the gaps between bookings. There is also a discount for rentals that are 7 days (or longer) of 10% to 12% off your stay.
If you look at our reviews, they're all 5 stars except for two 4-star reviews. If you read the 4-star reviews, they're also glowing reviews. Here is the house info:
Beautiful, spacious, sunny house in excellent condition in a nice neighborhood very close to both downtown Sarasota and Siesta Key, and fairly close to Lido Key, Longboat Key and Casey Key. There is a top quality hot tub with strong jets overlooking a scenic river.
The house is very nicely decorated and most of the furniture is like-new. Huge living room, dining room, eat-in kitchen, sunroom, four bedrooms (three with king beds and one with a full bed) and three bathrooms. There are 2 couches and 7 easy chair recliners so plenty of places to relax.
There is an outdoor patio overlooking the river with a table and chairs and two chaise lounges, plus chairs on the dock by the river. There is a brand new large lanai with two tables that can seat a total of 10 people. The lanai has an automated retractable screen so you can eat outdoors or be outdoors in the evening without bugs.
Nicely landscaped front yard and back yard including three avocado trees, which you can eat when they're ripe. Also a dock where you can relax by the river, fish or go kayaking.
There are two different master bedrooms. One master bedroom is newly built with a vaulted beadboard ceiling, brand new furniture and large windows with great views of the river. To build the new addition, the plumber had to remove some of the blacktop from the driveway, so part of the driveway is not in good shape, but is completely functional. Both master bedrooms have beautiful master bathrooms.
The living room has a 55" 4000k hi-def TV with a surround sound system and a dual DVR recorder so you can record your favorite shows and sporting events. Also a DVD player with 200 movies, Apple TV, Roku with an Amazon Prime movie subscription, and Direct TV with about 100 channels including ESPN, Comedy Central, etc.
There is also a new 55" 4000k TV on the lanai, and a 50" plasma TV in one of the two master bedrooms.
High-speed Internet with a Netgear Nighthawk AC1750 wifi router plus two Orbi high-speed wifi routers which broadcast wifi throughout the house and into the backyard. It's powerful enough to stream movies without delays. Unlimited domestic phone calls.
Rental includes use of:
* 3 kayaks with paddles and 6 different life vest types/sizes. They are real sit-in kayaks, not sit-on-top-of kayaks. The river is flat water with a mild current, not white water so it's easy to explore it. There is beautiful scenery on the river and lots of wildlife.
* 6 bikes, including 5 of them new in November 2015. They are cruiser bikes with raised handle bars for easy riding, yet also have several gears.
* 2 boogie boards, 2 swimming noodles and 2 masks and snorkels
* 6 beach chairs, a beach umbrella, 2 beach bags and several beach games including paddle ball.
* 2 fishing poles new in November, 2015 with a kit of lures etc. The river is loaded with fish, many of them sizable because it's the largest river in Sarasota county and there are almost no public fishing spots on it so the fish grow quite large.
* 2 tennis rackets with free nice public tennis courts 5 minutes away
* other items. Can't list all.
The house is a 6 minute drive from Shell Beach on Siesta Key, 12 minutes from Siesta Beach, 14 minutes from Turtle Beach, 16 minutes from Lido Beach on Lido Key, 16 minutes from Bird Key and Longboat Key, and 20 minutes from Casey Key.
There are two whole-house dehumidifiers to remove the Florida humidity from the air. This is especially helpful between December and March when you don't want the AC on making things colder, yet you do want the humidity gone from the air.
There is also a modern central AC and heating system. There are also two tankless hot water heaters so you never run out of hot water, even if 8 people shower in a row. They are very large heaters, so three people can shower at the same time with 2 sink faucets and the dishwasher running at the same time.
Entry is "keyless" with an easy-to-remember 4 digit code so you don't have to worry about keeping keys with you or sharing keys if there are a few of you. All of you can come and go independently of each other without worrying about keys. We change the code for new renters and send it to you before you arrive.
There are a free washer and dryer with a full range of settings on them.
The kitchen is beautiful with stainless steel appliances, nice cabinets, dishwasher and disposal, stove, oven, microwave and toaster oven.
If you like to cook, there are plenty of pots and pans, cooking utensils, cutting boards and other gear, and lots of flatware and glasses, plus matching plates, bowls and mugs. You can eat in the dining room, kitchen table, breakfast bar or on the patio or the lanai.
Phillippi Creek is the main river in Sarasota and has a lot of wildlife ranging from manatees to great blue herons to jumping fish.
The house is in a nice neighborhood of houses (not condos) with sizable plots of land, so you can't hear the neighbors at all. It's a single story house, so no stairs. It's got a very open floor plan. Nice tile floors throughout except for wood floors in two bedrooms.
If you like coffee or tea, there is a new Keurig coffee maker that accepts K-cups from any brand, as well as a regular coffee maker that brews whole pots.
If you like music, there is a stereo system with 5-CD player, cassette and radio with 2 huge top-quality speakers. There is also a portable rechargeable bluetooth music player, and another music player that accepts ipods and iphones. There are about 80 music CDs here or bring some of your own.
Most of the rooms have dimmable lights so you can choose your lighting level. Six of the rooms have ceiling fans with variable speeds if you like fans.
The place is stocked with plenty of paper towels, toilet paper, kleenex, liquid hand soaps by all sinks, and liquid body soap and shampoos in all showers so you don't need to get any of those. We also leave useful kitchen supplies such as tin foil, saran wrap and ziplock bags you can use for free to save you trips to the store.
As part of the rental, we send you an extensive guide of things to do and see in the region. We provide a large variety of options for all types of interests, age groups and tastes. Past renters have found it very helpful.
The owner, Peter, lets our nonprofit rent his house when he's out of town to raise money for our charity, so your vacation will be benefiting a good cause, and you'll also get to stay in a beautiful place. He pays great attention to detail, and has worked on the house and the grounds for the last nine years to turn it into a slice of paradise.
He also volunteers for us, and he’ll be available to answer questions you may have. Your rental payment goes directly to the nonprofit. If you decide to rent, we can either send you information about our projects and let you choose which project your vacation supports, or the nonprofit can use the money where it's needed most.
Anyway, all of the owner’s clothes and other personal items (except movies and CDs for your optional use) will be out of your way, so the place will feel like yours. A cleaner cleans the place before and after each renter. We have a handyman in case a fix-it is needed.
Peter has written a full guide to the house including how to work the TV, the wifi password, where things are located and anything else you might need. We email it to you ahead of time.
The following paragraph is only for people wondering about alligators. The short version is “They’re very rare in Sarasota and not a problem.” Sarasota removes gators from the river if they grow large enough to be a risk to humans because there are lots of houses on the river, and half of them don't have seawalls. This house has a seawall plus fences on all sides of the yard, so even if there were a gator, they can't get into the yard. Also, gators are scared of humans and stay away from us. They eat fish, mice, etc, but not big animals like humans. The county removes them anyway to be on the safe side, mostly so toddlers are not at any risk. People even paddle board down the river with nothing between them and the water. With a sit in kayak like we have, there is a plastic wall between you and the water. But gators aren't going to go near a kayak because kayaks are twice their size and they think kayaks are predators. That said, in 9 years of owning this house and 14 years living in the area, the owner hasn’t seen even one gator in Sarasota county, and hasn’t heard of even a single attack. So we think you'll be fine whether you rent this place or anywhere else.
