Guestbook comments from the manager

The tour of fools 2012 members used the house for one week in August and found it ideal for the requirements of six cyclists visiting the region for the first time with the aim of ticking off multiple Cols .

The location of the town, and of the house within the town is excellent.

Our first jaunt found us climbing Alpe DHuez within 5min of leaving the house. The house is warm and dry with adequate food storage, preparation and consumption areas for a house full of hungry cyclists. For post food wind-down there is also a spacious lounge area that is bigger than the pictures would suggest with lots of cycling magazines and coffee table books to mull over if you have time during your stay.

Bedrooms are large and comfortable, all with bathrooms and lots of windows for fresh air. If lacking in the necessary surface areas required when living out of a suitcase there were hanging facilities. But in balance, there is a bike workshop with all necessary tools for maintenance and repairs for Campag and Shimano. Along with plenty of bike shops that are in general cheaper than those in the UK (eg: Swiss-Stop Yellow King pads for 20% cheaper)

The house itself sits off a quiet road in the town where the front lends itself to becoming a nice suntrap to lounge in, drink coffee and adore your bike in the sunshine, whilst waiting for the temperature to rise before bouncing up a Col or two.

The owners, Helen and Phil leave you to it but are on hand if you need them and were very helpful with their local knowledge.

If you fancy a warm up, it is well worth the ride from Grenoble or Lyon train station, a more fitting way to arrive in the Alps for a cycling holiday than by taxi, climbing up into the mountains is spectacular if not a little tough with a pack.

All in all we scored the accommodation at 94%.

Winter Break

  • 5 of 5

Lovely house in village location. Great for bus routes up to Alpe D'euz for lots of snowboarding fun.

Picturesque village and good local restaurants and bars to try.

House was newly refurbished but still had the French charm and character. Great place to stay for our short winter break. Owners friendly and welcoming. Thank you.

Great location for plenty of cycling

  • 5 of 5

Lovely open lounge and vaulted kitchen space for relaxing. Powerful showers - much needed after a day in the saddle. Great location in the centre of Bourg D'Oisans so close for everything but tucked away and quiet so you're not disturbed!

Lads biking holiday

  • 5 of 5

I was one eight lads who stayed for a weeks cycling holiday. The accommodation was clean and ideally situated.

The rooms are big enough and the separate bathrooms was a god send. The only slight negative was lack of storage space but this was known in advance and our cycling gear stored nicely under the bed in the boxes supplied.

The living area was comfortable and the projector was a nice extra, good for relaxing and watching yours days ride which had been caught on a go pro.

The dining area was ample, the kitchen is a little tight if more than 2 are preparing food, but as we had no budding chefs it was brilliant for us. The bike storage was sufficient and good piece of mind that everything was stored secure and out of the way.

The location was superb, within a 2 minute walk you have bars and shops all of which are decent. A 5 minute walk and you’re at the large super market, (cheap wine, very cheap). The location was excellent for cycling, so many routes in different directions, probably no need to drive once you arrive, depending which iconic routes you want to ride.

Overall extremely happy with the accommodation, highly recommend.

Thank you.

A cosy home for a skiing holiday

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at Helen and Phil's house for the Christmas week and we had a wonderful holiday! We arrived to a warm cosy, very well set up home. The bedrooms are very spacious and comfortable and the fact that we all had our own bathroom was a bonus too - it meant that we could all get ready for the slopes at the same time without having to fight for showers.

The kitchen has excellent facilities but for 6 of us it was a bit tight on worktop space. I understand that Helen and Phil are thinking about changing it around and maybe extending it soon so hopefully even more space will be available for preparing, eating and lounging around! The lounge was very cosy and comfortable and with the log fire roaring when we came in from the slopes, we couldn't have asked for a better Christmas atmosphere!

The location is excellent, in a quiet street, but within 2 minutes walking distance to all the facilities of the town, including a smashing bar - the Cafe De Paris which we loved!

House in Bourg Oisan.

  • 4 of 5

Bourg Oisan was exactly what we wanted, be in the Alps, away from the buzzling of a ski resort, although at a close reach of it. Alpe de Huez and Les deux Alpes, are two large ski reorts at easy reach, and even in a severe winter, with a normal car, we could move around most places. The Boulangeries inthe village were excellent. Could not say the same for the level of the restaurants. However, there are good places around with niecer food (Allemont, Villard Reculas and of course Grenoble).

The house is in a peaceful area in the village, walking distance to everything. Very nice!!! The facilities are great, and the house is warm, very important in hard winters, and the wood burner in the small lounge works beautifully, heating the ground floor and a room upstairs. The rooms are all spacious, great surprise. The area in the kitchen to eat is a bit tight but workable, you get use to it. If you stay for a long time, a washing machine would be quite nice. However, there is a laundry real close. Our falmily had a great time and the owners were very tollerant with our excitment sometimes when the good wine was playing its role!!!

All in all, I recommend it if you want a relaxing holiday, as we were looking for.

Le Bourg d'Oisans is situated in the heart of six valley's on the edge of the Parc National Les Ecrins, the largest of France's 6 National Parks. From the house you are a minutes walk form the town's amenities with it's shops, bars and restaurants, banks and post office, playparks and open air swimming pool. From the house you will be able to appreciate beautiful views of the mountains. A variety of walks from family rambles, to serious hikes start from the front door and for cyclists the infamous 21 bends of Alpe d'Huez need no introduction. The Megavalanche trail for downhill mountain bikers is a short drive away with the lifts open in July and August to the start at the Pic Blanc. The town has excellent links of course to the nearby ski resorts of Alpe d'Huez, Vaujany, Les Deux Alpes.
