The house was very well stocked with all the necessities. It is in a gorgeous setting, walking distance to a lovely community preserve and only 2 miles from mirror lake. 15-20 mins to whiteface. Everything was clean and prepared for our visit. The owners were accessible and proactive.
If there were any negatives, they were that the cable package didn't have ESPN during bowl season, and the fireplace was gas powered rather than wood burning. But the overall experience dwarfed those minor setbacks. We simply watched football on the iPad and didn't have to clean a fireplace at the end of our stay.
I would recommend this house to anyone with a family. Mine will certainly be back!
We found the rental to be clean, spacious, and we'll quipped, the most well equipped we had ever encountered. For cooking, it had everything we needed - even a sears heavy duty cake mixer which we did not use buy would have on a longer stay.
Driving into lake placid took about 8 minutes and Adirondak Loj/ADK Info center and trailheads around 15 minutes. Also very dog friendly including walking trails in the back of the house. We ejoyed our stay and thank the accommodating owners Joseph and Rockwell.
Rockwell and Joe were the best hosts. Not only were the accommodations spacious, clean, and comfortable, but they were also dog friendly and laid-back about it. We brought 3 large dogs, and they didn't blink an eye. If it hadn't been so cold, the deck would have been lovely. Trails that connected to the state lands behind the house allowed me to hike for several miles directly from the house. The house is conveniently located to both Saranac Lake and Lake Placid. You could be in Lake Placid in minutes, and Saranac lake in 15 minutes. I am already trying to figure out when I can get back there again.
This lodge was one of the best places that I have ever stayed in. The owners were very nice and very helpful and the entire lodge was beautiful. There was enough room for everyone and everything was perfect. This was my first time in the Lake Placid area and I loved every minute of it, even when it was only -30 out. The area is beautiful and I highly recommend this lodge to stay in.
My wife and I along with our teenage daughter and her friend had the good fortune of staying at the Bear Cub Lodge during the Christmas recess of 2015. Having vacationed at other private residences in the past, I can unequivocally say that this property far exceeded our expectations and included a lot of amenities and conveniences that made for a very pleasant and comfortable stay….. right down to the fully decorated and lit Christmas tree that greeted us upon our evening arrival! The property had all the conveniences of home. Cooking was made easy by a generous supply of things like spices, herbs, not to mention every imaginable cooking utensil. There was an abundance of linens, blankets, pillows, towels, toiletries, etc.
What really stood out was the spotless condition of the home along with the sprawling single-level layout which, upon reflection, worked out well with two teens who liked staying up late. Bear Cub Lodge is located on a private lot surrounded by woods and trails which are ideal for both hiking and snowshoeing. The quiet setting was well-received by Hazel, our small dog who accompanied us.
Bear Cub Lodge is only a five-minute drive from downtown Lake Placid and perhaps 30 minutes to Whiteface Mountain. Though the skiing happened to be a bit off due to unseasonably warm weather, there are many things to do; both in town and nearby. For those unfamiliar with Lake Placid, most of the Olympic facilities are open for public use including indoor and outdoor skating facilities, the bobsled run (accompanied by a driver and brakeman) and the cross country skiing trails. In addition, the area offers sleigh rides, snowmobiling, snow tubing runs, etc. Main Street is quaint and has a wide range of fine restaurants and shops and is the site of the Olympic arena and museum and, as such, offers a lot of interesting history. There is a strong cultural presence given that the community serves as a training site for many international athletes.
In closing, I would like to thank Joe and Rockwell for their warm hospitality and highly recommend their property for others to consider when visiting the Lake Placid region.
We stayed with our kids and friends in the house for the New Year weekend. The house is great, all rooms are big and very well furnished, great TV, fireplace, Jacuzzi, very comfortable beds. Everything is very clean and in a perfect condition. We really enjoyed our time there. Our hosts, Joseph and Rockwell were very friendly, helpful and made sure that we had our worry-free long weekend. We will confidently recommend that house to our friends.
Lake Placid is the #1 ranked winter resort in the northeast and a top summer destination.
