Why Duncan & Chris Grant chose Macerata

We first visited Le Marche at Easter 2007 and absolutely fell in love with its unspoilt beauty. so much so that we returned a few months later searching for a property to renovate. Il Melo was the very first one we saw and, although we visited many others across a wide area, nothing came close. Although the house had been empty for many years it was basically sound and offered wonderful possibilities. When we saw it though, the ground floor was still set out with cattle stalls and the accommodation was upstairs.

In construction and basic design, it is very much a typical country house of the area but what set it apart was its location; on top of a small hill above the River Tenna with walnut trees around the house and a large cherry orchard beyond which are views of the Sibllini Mountains. The rolling hills of the Marche spread out in every direction and there are splendid views of the nearby hilltop towns of Penna San Giovanni and Monte San Martino.

Beautiful, secluded, well renovated farm house

  • 5 of 5

The booking was very easy & pre travel information was very comprehensive and helpful. The house is in a secluded quiet location surrounded by green. We had a very warm welcome & lovely welcome pack of food. The house is well renovated to a high standard which combines all the mod cons to make your stay very comfortable whilst retaining the original farm house feel and features. It is clean, with crisp linen & ample towels, these were refreshed during our 2 week stay which was a very nice touch. The rooms are all spacious, comfy & all have ensuites. The house is well equipped with plenty of space. The pool is fab, cleaned several times during our stay. Lovely and refreshing - just long enough to do some proper swimming too! The surrounding area is beautiful with many hill top towns to explore, lots of good restaurants, walks, etc. it's equidistant from the coast and the mountain lakes so plenty to amuse everyone. I would highly recommend this property and it's very reasonable price for the amount of space & lovely pool! We would be delighted to be able to return. Thank you Duncan & Chris for sharing your home!

Go to Il Melo, book it for two weeks!

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from a family holiday at Il Melo and had a brilliant time. The house itself is lovely & finished to a very high standard inside – the beds are comfortable, showers are good and the kitchen is amazingly well equipped, brilliant for foodies.

We were a varied group of young & old, active & inactive – from 3 years old to 78, and all were well catered for at Il Melo. There is plenty of shade around the pool for lounge lovers and the pool itself is partly shaded in the afternoon. We enjoyed the great selection of films to watch in the TV room when needing to escape the heat. And all kids enjoyed the various games & toys available – we didn't bring anything for any of them, there's lots here.

The house is definitely away from it all, but there are tons of really nice towns & villages nearby to explore by car; that's why I'd recommend a two week stay, so you can do one day by the pool, one day visiting! You won't regret it. The advantage of the remoteness is you are not overlooked by anyone and can hear nothing but critters and the breeze; if privacy is important, this place is perfect.

Little details like not having to bring bedding & towels are great, especially when the stuff provided is such good quality. Plus the owners are very easy to communicate with and answered all my questions.

All in all, I would 100% recommend booking this villa.

Idyllic Holiday Villa in unspoiled Marche region

  • 5 of 5

We had a perfectly wonderful stay at Il Melo in the beginning of July. We were two families, totalling nine people and the villa could not have suited us better. The building, decor and ambiance is even better seen in person than in the pictures. Everything in the house is quite tasteful and appealing. It is both relaxed and elegant. We really appreciated the fact that each bedroom had it's own en-suite bathroom. The bed linen, sheets and towels were quite luxurious. The villa was clean and very well-maintained. It felt a bit like a spa!

The surrounding area is stunning and was wonderful to discover. Each day, we found time for both exploring the surrounding hilltop villages and open-air markets as well as relaxing by the pool. We took advantage of the catering services offered by the lovely Pauline and enjoyed our stay that much more. We had delicious prepared meals while taking the time to relax and enjoy the time spent with good friends. A perfect holiday! (Our four kids loved it too!)

Our Stay at Il Melo

  • 5 of 5

Il Melo is a superb farmhouse set in a quiet valley in the rolling hills of Le Marche. The house itself has everything you could wish for: large open plan lounge-diner-kitchen fitted with absolutely every mod con; great snug room for relaxing with music or TV; 5 wonderful, roomy bedrooms each with a different theme and oozing character; as many stylish bathrooms that you could ever want. There's bag of room and you'll never feel on top of each other. There's always things for the kids to do.

The hosue is set down a quiet road amid cherry, plum and olive trees. Although the pool wasn't open when we visited (too early in the season), we still managed to sit out and relax lapping up the fresh air, sunshine and spectatcular views across to the mountains. Eating 'al fresco' is a delight here and the kids loved it.

The local village up the hill is 5 mins in a car and is a delightful, charming place with nice restaurants, bars and a small supermarket. We managed to eat out a few times in the local villages (up to 30 mins drive away) and sample the delicious wines and cuisine of the area.

All in all we had a great time and we certainly can't wait to get back to Il Melo.

Villa Il Melo, Italy

Truly Magical

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a wonderful ten day stay at the Villa Il Melo and we would like to tell you how truly magical our stay was. The sun was hot, the pool was cool, the scenery was stunning, the wine was mellow and the tomatoes were sweet. What more could you want? The Villa is luxurious from the fabulous bathrooms to the rich fluffy towels. The kitchen is fitted out with every gadget you could want (and more) and all the china etc is of the highest quality. The kids (Alex 11, Annie 7) loved the freedom that the villa offers, they were able to swim in the wonderful pool both day and night as well as wander down to the nearby river where they played, dug up clay beds and found dead snakes! The views from the bedrooms are beautiful and as you look round you in the morning you know you are in for a wonderful day. We ate plums and figs from the trees and feasted on eggs and tomatoes provided by the wonderful neighbours. We ate in some lovely local restaurants (very italian!) and went on a couple of trips to small towns nearby (you absolutely need a robust car to get around in) but to be honest we didn't really feel the need to travel far as the place was so lovely and we were finishing off our holiday in Rome.

Go on give yoursel a real italian holiday, go to Il Melo and enjoy the dolca vita!

New Year in The Marche

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I visited Villa II Melo over the New Year 08/09.

The accomodation was first class, everything is provide, and was new and modern, with the underfloor central heating the whole house was warm and cosy inspite of the cold nights.

Skiing at Sasso Tetto was easily accessible about 3/4 hour away, the slopes were limited when compared to the Alps but the prices reflected this, very good value, a great place to learn to ski. We had exellent snow conditions.

The area was interesting with hill towns with exellent restaurants. We plan to return in the summer
