About the property

1,000+ Feet Of Dramatic Ocean Frontage, Surrounded By Fields And Forest

NEW: Sweeping Ocean Views from Three Suites, Private Swimming Cove and Dock

Gather your family and friends for an authentic Maine vacation to remember. This gorgeous country home sits on 1,000+ feet of dramatic ocean frontage, surrounded by fields and forest. Three spacious suites, all with water views, provide the flexibility to accommodate an extended family or up to three couples.

Sip morning coffee on a balcony overlooking the Casco Bay Islands, lunch on a deck overlooking your private cove, and enjoy evening cocktails on the screened-in porch. Prepare your meals in the well-appointed kitchen with organic foods grown at Wolfe’s Neck Farm, just minutes down the road. Walk down the driveway to your private entrance to Wolfe’s Neck Woods State Park, with its five miles of oceanfront and wooded nature trails.

Ready to explore farther afield? Launch your kayak and explore the rocky coastline while watching for bald eagles, seals and great blue heron. It’s an easy paddle to the charming village of South Freeport where you can enjoy a seaside lunch of lobsters and clams. Return to shore and take a refreshing dip off the spacious dock.

Enjoy shopping? Just a short drive into town you’ll find spectacular shopping in Freeport’s 200+ shops and L.L. Bean’s famous flagship store (it never closes!). Portland’s Museum of Art, fine restaurants, and charming Old Port shops are only a half-hour away.

INSIDE THE HOUSE:

The expansive, sun-drenched first floor features post-and-beam design, a stone fireplace in the sunken living room, puzzle and reading nooks, and a music room with piano - all with sweeping ocean views. The dining area with seating for ten opens to the well-appointed kitchen with bar and breakfast nook, kitchen so the cooks can be in on the party. Step up to the media room with 50” flat screen TV, fireplace, and comfortable seating for that rainy-day movie. The house is full of books and art.

GROUNDS:

The grounds that surround the house provide lawns for croquet, trails through a patch of woods on the water, and several gardens including one surrounding a small stone patio on the sea with a chaise for quiet reverie or a good book. A hammock by the cove offers the same.

THREE PRIVATE SUITES:

The house offers separate three suites of bedrooms and bath, perfect for three couples who want privacy, or for a family and guests.

Suite #1: This second-floor master suite features a dramatic bedroom with sweeping ocean views on three sides, a private balcony and walk-in closet. The grand bathroom features a jetted tub with skylights and ocean views. Down the hall is a queen bedroom and second full bathroom.

Suite #2: The third-floor suite has a queen bed and a view to the private swimming cove from a cozy sitting area. There is a large bathroom with skylight, and an adjoining room with chairs and a daybed.

Suite #3: Across the house and upstairs from the media room, this charming second-floor suite under the eves features a large bedroom with king size bed and sitting area, two smaller bedrooms (each with single beds), and a full bath.

Caretaker lives on premises in private apartment with separate entrance and parking.

Why Manager: Jim chose Portland - Casco Bay Area

The owner's home has been in their family for three generations. They have all enjoyed its warmth and spectacular setting. Their family has been involved with the creation of Wolfe's Neck Woods State Park and Wolfe's Neck Farm, with a special eye to conservation, preserving historic farmland and helping to create a better future for organic farming and local food. They hope will create your own memories in this special place.

Guestbook comments from the manager

“This is a beautiful, spacious home, well appointed. The setting on the bay front is beautiful and peaceful. This was the perfect setting for our family reunion. It was large enough to allow all of us privacy; it was quiet and with beautiful views, it was great for swimming and Kayaking, and it was close to Freeport and all its amenities. Thank you so much for allowing us to share your home”

A perfect getaway

  • 5 of 5

I'm almost hesitant to write a good review for fear that this house will book up so often we won't be able to go back!

Our week at Aldrich Point was absolutely everything we were looking for. The pictures don't do this place justice. The house is huge - large enough for my husband, one-year-old son and me as well as five friends of ours (and still had room for more people!) and had everything we needed - tons of outdoor space, access to water, lawn games, a very large kitchen and several sitting rooms (equipped with wifi and roku) that came in handy when various people needed privacy to work. The state park is practically in the backyard and is both very accessible to non-hikers and has breathtaking views along the water's edge. The house was a perfect distance from Freeport - far enough that we could find ample peace and quiet and close enough that we could conveniently go into town several times a day for groceries, shopping, yoga, etc.

Jackie was very helpful and communicative in the lead up to our trip and Jim was incredibly nice and otherwise not intrusive during our stay.

We couldn't have asked for a better trip and cannot wait to go back! Thanks Jackie and Jim and the Smiths!

What a beautiful place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

Our family reunion of 9 ages 2 to 63 had an excellent week long vacation. The three separate ‘apartment like’ bed / bath suites allowed each family group to have their own private space. The second floor bedroom deck afforded a quiet panorama view of the ocean. The kitchen was well stocked with culinary tools such as a Ninja Pro blender, waffle iron, lobster pot and seafood tool sets, and a separate bar fridge and sink area. The Freeport Harbor was just a few miles away to pick up fresh lobsters, which went great on the outside grill.

We brought our own kayaks to take advantage of the private cove and boat dock. Outstanding place to paddle our boats. The Casco Bay islands protected the local shores from strong ocean currents or noisy boat traffic. Our paddling adventure provided great scenic views of the islands, bird watching, and jumping fish.

The house is well located for great day trips as well. City life, boating tours or country drives, something for everyone. If you get a chance go to Popham Beach at low tide, it is worth the trip. It’s only an hour away.

An Exceptional Home Generating Lasting Memories

  • 5 of 5

In VRBO land, it's possible to tell which homes have been lovingly cared for and lived in, and which are simply way stations for other experiences. Aldrich Point is among those that without any pretension whatsoever declare their affection and their thoughtfulness at every turn. We could not have been more pleased. It's spaciousness and openness made it possible for our several families to witness and hear many, if not most, of our grandchildren's antics and remarks. In that the kitchen was well stocked, cooking , which we like to do, was thoroughly enjoyable. The sliding storage cabinets, for example, were especially helpful. Indeed, so many amenities were on hand, that we couldn't help feeling that someone had endeavored to anticipate our every need. The aesthetic experience: the owners' sense of interior design -- their choice of wall papers, color schemes, decorative touches, furniture, table ware and serving dishes, and even their pots and pans gave us pleasure all by themselves. But the art! The paintings and prints, the ship models and duck decoys and maps and posters and sculptures! We had our own little museum, fully capable of rewarding multiple visits. And the books! I brought my own stack, and then promptly abandoned mine in favor of a maritime history of Maine on the bookshelves. And that was just one of many histories, novels, and even children's books. And many of them in the bedrooms as well as the libraries in the hallway and the two living rooms. The landscaping and the location, what a visual feast there, too. We happily blew soap bubbles outdoors, and made use of the croquet set, and the hammock, and just sat or stood taking in the views. All of our children and their spouses lead, in the normal course of their work, stressful urban lives. Aldrich Point undid all of that -- truly, Andrew Marvell's "green thought in a green shade." When I began searching for a VRBO home for this, as it turned out, hard won vacation, the most I thought I could hope for was a reasonably comfortable experience that wouldn't be too offensive to my sensibilities. I didn't expect delight and wonder. Aldrich Point is the sort of house that you hope will become a tradition. Its price tag, I admit, was daunting. We nearly ruled it out from the beginning. But in retrospect, for what it gave us, it was more than a bargain. That much devotion to place you cannot demand. You can only hope to receive it as a gift. Which we did.

Wonderful Oceanside winter weekend.

  • 5 of 5

A group of us, family and friends, celebrated the new year in this beautiful spacious Freeport home. The ocean wrapped around most of the house - predominantly cliffs of glacial boulder on one side and stairs that lead down to a small sandy beach on another side. Since it was winter we did not get to use the long pier but it's there for you. The kids went sledding and built a fort. We hiked through snowy fields and forest and along the ocean bluff, just by stepping out the front door. The bedrooms were comfortable and the one with no ocean view was my daughter's favorite. The entire place had a great energy about it. The town lost power but we didn't know because a generator took over which was very much appreciated. There is a lot of room for a large group to sit in the open dining area to cook, play games and talk. Plenty of chairs, sofas, a daybed, surrounded by window after window with the most breathtaking ocean views. Lots of little nooks for the the children to play in with a variety of games and puzzles for them in a trunk. There is an extensive collection of books, many of them on history and anthropology. I could've read the entire winter away, cuddled up by the fire and watching the seabirds paddle by. It is a truly spectacular sanctuary.
