About Philip Klitzke

My wife Jody and I are 50+ self employed Information Technology professionals working in the Twin Cities. We love to travel, swim, canoe, kayak, run, bike and other out door activities. We have five grown children, one grand daughter (4), and another grand baby on the way. We and our 100 # yellow lab (Sam) have enjoyed the cabin these past years. Sam loves to retrieve any thing thrown off the dock. We have purposefully made the cabin 'dog friendly'. We find great satisfaction renting our home to families, friends, groups that need a large, accommodating lake home that is near the twin cities. We really enjoy reading the stories in the guest book. We hope you'll consider our lake home for your vacation plans.

Philip Klitzke purchased this cabin in 2006

Why Philip Klitzke chose Minnesota

We bought this cabin because of the water front, and located on the Cross Lake, Snake River, Pokegama water system. There are lots of activities nearby or just snuggle by the gas fireplace with a good book.

What makes this cabin unique

Lots of space! Open dining, living, kitchen area affords great mingling of a large family gathering. Lots to do for kids or adults. The master bedroom suite with it's own closet and bathroom provides intimacy even when there's a crowd in the house.

An expansive deck extends the openness to outside during the spring-fall seasons. Cool breezes off the lake keep it refreshing even in the hottest summer days. Air conditioning has been installed for those really hot days of summer.

Comfortable house with ample room for large groups, well stocked kitchen, sunset view over lake,

  • 5 of 5

My three siblings and I, our spouses and kids, and our parents gathered here to celebrate our parents' 70th birthdays. We had 10 adults, two toddlers, 3 babies, and a small dog, and did not feel crowded. There was enough room to gather for big family meals and there were enough different spaces to spread out for separate activities. The kitchen was well stocked with plenty of knives, appliances, pots and dishes.

The lake access includes a small sandy beach which was great for the toddlers. The path to the lake is a bit steep--not accessible for all, but the large deck and large windows of the living room offer expansive views to the lake--and we were lucky to have a stunning sunset during our stay.

The master bedroom is large and easily fit two travel cribs with room to spare. The other rooms were a little tight with the travel cribs, but it worked fine.

The large dining table had room for us all, for meals and games, and was the center of our family gathering.

Pine City was close enough to the Twin Cities to make an easy trip but far enough to feel like you were away.

We would definitely return!

A side note: our toddler woke with a croupy cough one morning and we took him to the Pine City urgent care clinic. It was close and convenient and we received excellent care.

Lovely Vacation Rental

  • 5 of 5

This was our family's second stay at this wonderful Pine City lake home. The setting works so well for large groups. There is enough room to comfortably spread out, whether inside or out. We caught fish off the dock and enjoyed the water activities. The deck and dockside patio are fantastic gathering spots for relaxing. The large kitchen is perfect for group cooking and conversation. Plenty of inside room for board games, lounging, etc. Truly a gem!

Fish, Fish, and More FISH!!!

  • 5 of 5

Just got back from one of the most relaxing and enjoyable times in Pine City, Minnesota, at this "cabin" that is really a huge house that provides all the amenities inside and outside. Including great fishing! Off the dock, off the shore, in a boat...we caught crappies, sunfish, bass, northern, and perch -- the crappies were a good 1/2 lb. to a pound each! Unfortunately the elusive walleye was nowhere to be seen -- but they are in there! And I'm pretty sure I saw a sturgeon that was as big as a dolphin taking a little swim close to the dock -- but I may be wrong. All in all it was a good time for me. I caught the fish, filleted the fish, cleaned the fish, prepared and cooked the fish, and then, that's right, we all ate the fish!!! They were soooo good. And we did it all right at this fabulous, comfortable, and inviting home. There were at least 15 in the house and I never once felt crowded or had to wait to use a bathroom, look far for a utensil, pan, or coffee cup. The layout is fantastic, the deck is great, the grill accommodates a lot of food, the walk to the lake is safe and beautiful, and the fire pit area is amazing! Can't say enough good things about this place. Highly recommended!!!

Lovely lake-home - Everything we needed!

  • 5 of 5

We had a small family reunion and were looking for a place that was spacious, affordable and convenient to the Twin Cities with lake frontage. We liked that it could be rented for less than a full week so out of town guests could also spend time in the city for a few days before heading up the lake. The owner was quick to reply to inquiries and very generous. Weather was predicted to be stormy during our stay so he offered to let us stay one free night early since it was sunny/nice out. We were able to enjoy an afternoon swimming in the lake and have a bonfire at the gorgeous bonfire pit/patio area. The landscaping was incredible and commented on by everyone. We spent much of the time outdoors, even in light rain. The large upper deck was very spacious, with gorgeous treetop & lake views. The lake is narrow and not as private as others, it was also not very clear water - but we managed to catch a couple of sunfish & a large mouth bass off the dock. We also enjoyed the free use of a canoe & kayak as well as the floaties & items in the beach-house (everything you'd ever need at the beach)! Literally all you would have to bring to this place is yourself, clothing & food - they have everything you need, including all cooking utensils, full kitchen & gas grill. They even had a collection of games, puzzles and DVDs for rainy days. There is a grocery store in town, as well as an A&W Root Beer restaurant, which the kids loved. I don't really have anything negative to say about the place. It did get a bit cold at night downstairs but we turned the AC off at night and there were dozens of extra blankets available to use. Cleanliness was adequate for a lake-home and everything was well-stocked. We were not expecting a 5-star hotel, so were happy with the overall condition. All-in-all it was a very nice stay, highly recommended.
