About the property

Cabin, 3 Bedroom + Loft, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)

Experience the solitude and beauty of the Boundary Waters with the comforts of home in this new log cabin on Winchester Lake.

Truly off the grid, this cabin offers a rustic experience with the convenience of refrigeration and power. The cabin is solar powered with automatic generator backup. With no phone or internet, you really 'get away' from technology distractions. The cabin offers one bedroom on the main floor, a large loft and two bedrooms on the lower level. The loft has two futon couches that can convert to beds for additional sleeping. There is a 3/4 bath on the main floor and a full bath in the lower level. Cabin offers a deck with gas grill and seating. Take in the evening sounds of nature as you warm by the campfire and roast a marshmallow or two. Firewood supplied.

On this remote Boundary Waters style lake we generally find ourselves the only ones on the lake. So that great fishing spot is always available. This lake is full of small mouth bass, you can barely get your pole in before there is a fish on your line. Over a five year range the DNR stocked this deep lake with over 15,000 lake trout. Other fish include northern pike, walleye, perch and sunfish. The lake offers limited boat access. A 14ft. fishing boat with motor and a Canoe are included with rental.

Up in the north woods, we regularly see eagles and loons while enjoying the lake. In the evening you may hear the hoot of an owl or a wolf howling at the moon. Moose, deer, bear, beavers, and other small critters find their homes around our property.

Whether a couple looking to get back to nature or a family looking to spend quality time, your time at Winchester Lake is sure to be memorable.

About Dave Lindroth

Dave and Deb Lindroth purchased the land in fall of 2003 with plans of building a log cabin. Three kids and two dogs later, we decided our camper was too small and we were ready to build that log cabin. Cabin was built in 2011.

Dave Lindroth purchased this cabin in 2003

Why Dave Lindroth chose Minnesota

We enjoyed camping in the Boundary Waters every summer and found this location to give the Boundary Waters experience combined with some comforts of home. We wanted a cabin where we weren't looking into the neighbor's window. On our 40 acre plot, with 1300 ft shoreline we have found that.

What makes this cabin unique

With the many distractions in life, we have found our cabin the place to get away and enjoy our family while experiencing the many

Perfect get away

  • 5 of 5

Everything was as described. The lake was virtually deserted. Saw only two other boats all week. Dave was great about making a small adjustment in our schedule. Strongly recommend this location if your vehicle has clearance to complete the last 3 miles and if you can live without cell phone or Wi-Fi for the length of your stay.

As advertised. Great secluded place to get off grid

  • 5 of 5

All the in town amenities on your own (almost) private lake. We had a great time here. A week off the grid was just what we needed. The house is nicely appointed and had all we needed. We enjoyed the boat and so did the dogs. We saw loons on a nest and a mink during our boat rides to go fishing. The one trip in to town took a lot longer than the miles sound so bring plenty of food and bait. It could have been three times as long of a trip and still not mattered to get the amazing experience of the north woods in a homey house. Worth every cent!!!! Thanks.

Location! Location! Location!

  • 5 of 5

My husband, two young boys and I had the best time! Gorgeous cabin! Better than the pictures. The remote location was just what we were looking for. Truly "got away from it all". We felt like it was an adventure just driving in to get to the cabin. My son told me how cool I was for finding this place. Score!

Fishing was great! My 8 year old enjoyed fishing off the dock and caught 52 fish in the few days we were there.

We didn't see a single soul our entire stay. No one on the lake but us.

Owners were a breeze to work with too and were very accommodating. Highly recommend!

Great Trip!

  • 5 of 5

The fishing was great! Our boys even had good luck off the pier with their new lures.

The boat was perfect!

The electricity worked flawlessly (runs on solar and generator).

The cabin looked even better than the pictures. It was beautiful!!! It was so clean when we got there too. I sure did my best to keep it that way (by sweeping a few times during the week to keep the sand out).

The Mine Tour in nearby Soudan was amazing! We took the boys and had a great time learning about The Cadillac of Mines in Soudan. We even came back on the Northern route through the woods!

Thank you for sharing your beautiful vacation home with us. We had a very special time there with our family!

Great escape!

  • 5 of 5

We had two families stay for a week over the 4th of July. Great weather. Swimming off the pier is excellent. Lots of fishing for the kids. Beautiful home. Was wonderful. Lake felt like your own private retreat. Bald eagles watched over us and loons kept us company. Only note--be sure to bring bug spray or the flies will carry you away!
