About Philip Max Kay

Philip 'Max' Kay first skied

the Loaf in 1962, and skied for

Colby College from '63-'67. Besides his passion for skiing he is an enthusiastic sailor, scuba diver, hiker and runner, having completed 39, 26.2 mile marathons. I bought the land in 1971 from Harvey Boynton in 1969 after serving in the Navy and Dick Fountain built the house in 1980. The 'Chalet' has been a pleasure to own and maintain. The house is also for sale as my only daughter is grown up, married and moved to Seattle and I have relocated to Evergreen, Colorado in the mountains 20 miles west of Denver, where I live with my loved one; Candy.

Philip Max Kay purchased this house in 1980

Why Philip Max Kay chose Sugarloaf

Many of my guests over the years have raved about the quiet setting. The house is unique as it is only minutes away from all the activity at the base of the mountain yet in a wonderful private setting. I have heard many complaints from skiers who rented right at the base then complained about party go'ers waking them in the wee hours of the morning. With the shuttle bus access the house provides the best of both worlds; right in the middle of all the action, yet quiet and peaceful for relaxing. Ski and board hard all day, then sit back, relax by the fire, watch the birds at the bird feeders or the snow falling.

What makes this house unique

We designed the 'Kaybin' to sleep up to 12 in four separate bedrooms on two levels.. The master bedroom comfortably sleeps two in the king size bed on the upstairs floor. The second bedroom upstairs has a queen and 2 twin beds and can handle four more. These rooms would share the master bath on the main floor. Downstairs you will find a twin bedded room for two more and a bunk room for four. these rooms would share the downstairs bath with a shower. So you can enjoy the house as just one or two, three or four couples with total privacy or bring the kids and let the kids bring a friend or two.
