The Perch is one of two cabins on a 2.75 acre property. The cabin is a two flight climb but provides a retreat well worth it! There is a wood burning fireplace as well as electric heat and air conditioning. A sky light in the living room provides an airy feel throughout the day as well as a sky view at night. The cabin is complete with a queen size bed in the bedroom and two twin beds for additional sleeping in the living area. The living space also has a bistro table and chairs, compact refrigerator, coffee maker and microwave. Television, WiFI and telephone are all available in this cabin.
There is an outside balcony with chairs for reading or enjoying a beverage at the end of a day. Guests are free to make use of the river access for fishing or water play, the fire ring and horse shoe pit.
There is the opportunity to hear wild turkeys in the morning, share the view with a few deer and step into the river to fish for steelhead, salmon and pike. The grounds provide a fire pit and chairs on the patios for relaxation, a zip line for youngsters and horse shoes for all.
A two night minimum stay is required but we believe that you will choose to stay longer to take advantage of all the activities available in the area. Grants Pass restaurants and farmer’s market, the Applegate Valley wineries and Cave Junction ’s Marble Caves and Great Cats World Park as well as fishing, white-water rafting and the hiking trails that abound.
We are always ready to provide information or answer questions regarding the property, area restaurants and local activities so plan on nesting with us for a week-end, a week or even longer!
I am retired from the world of education and now able to concentrate on what I love best-finding new projects that allow me to use my various DIY skills to repurpose or find new purpose in things around me. I love to garden and work with stained glass, sew and read and even make soap and lotion. Now that I have land to play with, I have even established a vegetable garden that goes beyond patio tomatoes! I have come a long way from Kirkland, Illinois across more world wide byways than I could have imagined. But that would be a story for over a glass of wine!
Mary Shields purchased this cabin in 2014
My home was built in the 1950's and used as a fishing retreat by Hollywood actors including Howard Duff. It was built to last in a workman's fishing camp style. The care taken by the builder is evident in the detail work done on cabinets and desks. Unfortunately it had been abandoned for four years prior to my purchasing it. My son and I have been working this year to revive the grounds, refresh the buildings and still maintain the vintage charm that makes it such a wonderful place to share with family and friends.
The barn wood walls tell the story of the floods that have fashioned the Rogue into what it is today. I awake to the call of the wild turkeys, watch the deer amble through the yard and hope they aren't so hungry that they will sample even those plants rated as deer resistant! Every day the river is there bringing a sense of calm and the promise of something new to experience for me and each rafter and fishermen on the river that day. It is a life lived outside or snuggled up with a book in front of the fire, full of hard work or long dreamy hours, of Tom Sawyer days with no agenda or opportunities to explore the many activities available in the surrounding towns and country side,
Hi Mary! Roland & I wanted to thank you for a wonderful stay! The cabin was amazing! Thank you again & have a wonderful weekend :)
I knew I was going to love it when our greeters were a chicken and a duck! There were also wild turkeys and plenty of deer.
We loved staying in the perch listening to the rain, reading books - snug as a bug with a fire burning in the wood burning stove.
We were unable to access wifi and surprisingly our cellular phones (Verizon) did not work on the property but we we didn't mind. We do however wish there was information provided on on the local things to see, do and eat around the area as we didn't have access to look anything up unless we drove to town.
We would definitely visit again.
This is an absolutely beautiful property. The space was just as pictured - cute, inviting, and comfortable. Every morning, I enjoyed sipping my coffee while staring at the beautiful river, watching fish jump in the river, and watching wild turkeys walk by. I would highly recommend this property. Also...OMG...the bed is the best bed I have ever slept in!
Sweet place to stay. Clean and enough amenities for our family of four to enjoy a quiet, nature filled vacation. A quick walk down to the river to swim, fish or hang out and the view from our treetop spot was very relaxing. Thank you Mary!
Nice clean updated cabin on the third floor. If you're gone all day I need a place to crash at night time this is the place for you
