About Alicia Reichlin

My husband and I run this vacation rental with my father. We have owned the house for many years but we decided to rent it out to people. The house has gone through many updates over the years and we have put a lot of time and energy to making it beautiful. We always try to make the house the way we would want it and keep up with the maintenance and cleaning by ourselves.

Alicia Reichlin purchased this estate in 1982

Why Alicia Reichlin chose Greater Niagara

The house was built in 1917 for the president of Niagara Dry Goods. It had many owners over the years and my father and my grandmother bought the house 30 years ago. It was abandoned and left to freeze in the brutal Niagara Falls winters. When my father first walked in it was just a shell. It still had all of the original chandeliers, woodwork, fire place brass door knobs hardwood floors, etc. But it also had water and ice throughout the house, vine growing in the windows, the ceilings had come down and all of the wall paper was moldy. Every radiator and toilet had burst, everything had to be rewired and new pipes had to be put in. The sun porch had completely collapsed and the roof had to be completely rebuilt. Most people considered it a lost cause and said it should have been torn down. But my father saw it for what it was. It was a beautiful house that he knew of when he was a kid 40 years before, and delivered newspapers to as a boy. He knew what it had looked like and what it should look like. So he put his skills, and patience into it and slowly brought it back to life. Then in 2011 we began to have an idea. I wanted to make the house even better. So my father putting his skills to work once again, was able to take the ideas from my head as I wanted and put them into the house. I wanted blue skies and starry nights on the walls like canvas and together we made it work. Every room has it's own feel to it. Each space has it's own character. So now we are proud to present to our guests the finished product. The property also has a lot of historical value to it. We found out many political fundraisers and parties were held here and it is one of the few mansions left in Niagara Falls.

What makes this estate unique

The rental is conveniently located very close to the Falls. There is just a short walk 2 blocks and you are there. 2 blocks away from the country's oldest state park. Guests would be better off parking their vehicles at the rental and walking to the Falls & downtown attractions, as parking downtown & in the park can be difficult to find. The State Park also periodically closes parking on Goat Island State Park due to parking being completely full, so it's best to save yourselves the inconvenience & just leave your cars at the rental.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We really appreciated staying here. Thank you so much for sharing your home with us. Everything was in perfect order and very clean. We enjoyed the very quick walk to the Falls, when you said short distance to the Falls, you weren't kidding. We all enjoyed our rooms, they were so beautiful and well cared for. This was our first time with a vacation rental, and we are so glad we made the right choice. We will recommend this house to all of our friends and family who are thinking of making the trip up here. Thank you.

Wonderful turn of the century mansion with great location!

  • 5 of 5

This home was the perfect base for our family of five on our 'Niagara Frontier' vacation. Easy walking distance to the Falls. Short trips to Fort Niagara, Buffalo, Lockport and Darien Lakes. The home is absolutely beautiful. The kitchen was better appointed than any Marriott or Disney timeshare. More space than 5 suite style hotel rooms put together for less than the cost of one.

The owners went out of their way to be certain everything was to our liking and we felt completely at home. The kids wanted to live there instead of coming home when our vacation was over. So did we!

If you like large historic homes this home will be your dream come true!

Lovely older home

  • 4 of 5

Was greeted promptly by Alicia and her son Jack. She gave us a quick run-through of everything, including her helpful table top book. She stayed just long enough to get us going, then left us to our vacation bliss. The home is a lovely older home. If you do not love the smell of old wood, creaking awesome stairs, or a private secluded lot, this is not the house for you. Otherwise, enjoy your stay in this awesome family home. Alicia was receptive to the "just right" level, and when we had to contact her, she was speedy to respond.

We actually had more towels than we thought we would, with plenty of TP and kitchen essentials. We left some half and half packets for the next guests! The property was very clean. This house is in easy walking distance to the American Falls and related restaurants, casinos and sights. An easy drive to the Canadian side can be had from here as well.

Thanks for letting us share in this lovely home.

Beautiful old home close to everything

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful hundred-year-old home has room for everyone. Easily room for 10 or more. Very peaceful surroundings with the rush of the river outdoors, but within site of the casino. Only a couple blocks to everything, the falls, restaurants, and the casino. Gray Line tours picked us up practically at the door and the trolley passes right by. Fully functional kitchen, and three handy bathrooms. Wonderful little table in the living room for playing cards. We four sisters greatly enjoyed our stay!

Beautiful home, wonderful location!!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stayed for a short vacation to see our extended family before the kids have to go back to school. We have stayed at many rentals in the area, this one truly was by far the nicest we have stayed in. Alicia was a wonderful hostess. She gave us directions to grocery stores, recommended places for us to visit and where to eat. She told us the history of the house and how she grew up there and now lives there when she doesn't have guests. She brought her baby with her Jack and he was very sweet. Very, very shy but sweet. It's nice to hear that Alicia grew up there because you can definitely see her love for the house in the way that it is so well taken care of. I was really surprised at how close the house was to the Falls. We were able to leave our car at the house and walk to most places. Our first morning there Alicia stopped by with muffins and bagels and some hot coffee from a place called Tim Hortons. It was so yummy and I was glad because we didn't have to worry about breakfast and we could just get the kids ready and go out. The house was very clean and the beds were very comfortable. I joked with Alicia that she might have OCD because there was cleaning stuff in every bathroom and in the kitchen and everything was so well organised and well looked after. Just a word of caution. The house has a lot of vases and decorative stuff. Make sure you keep an eye on younger children. Its not a huge deal we just made a rule for our girls not to touch things on the shelves and you may have to move a couple of things out of reach. The garden outside is very beautiful. It has a kind of wild look to it but it is very nice. We were very pleased to see so many birds around the yard. Cardinals, blue jays, lots of humming birds and tons of butterflies. It was very magical and my daughter loved going out into the back yard (which is huge by the way) and looking at the butterflies. We even saw a couple of rabbits and 3 chipmunks. We were told not to feed them which is a good idea because they already seem a little to comfortable with people around. The chipmunks came and sat on the picnic table while we were sitting about 4 feet away around the fire pit. Probably the best feature of the house is the sound of the river can be heard and seen from the house. Even with the windows closed we could hear the sound of the river and see it a little bit through the trees. We will definitely choose to stay here again in the future and recommend it to our friends.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the wonderful review! We are so glad you had a nice time at our rental. We try very hard to make our guests comfortable. It was very nice to meet you and your family and I'm glad that I was of help to you with directions and bringing you breakfast. I do try to do something for our guests whether it's bringing them breakfast, or giving them gift cards to local restaurants within walking distance. We hope that you come and stay at our rental again!
