About Kate Wilkinson

We built Tara's House in 2008 - a real labour of love and we are very proud of the house and we love to share this very special place with our guests. It was designed by an architect family member and we all survived to tell the tale! We have replanted a rose that used to grow at the original cottage on the site as a memento to the history of the site.

Kate Wilkinson purchased this house in 2008

Why Kate Wilkinson chose Carrowtrasna

The site has the most amazing sea views and as the locals say 'it's feels different up here in Stroove'. It's a much longer story than that - which we'll tell you if you come and stay!

What makes this house unique

Tara's House is unique in so many ways, not least it's contemporary design - a refreshing change from the usual dormer bungalows you see across Ireland. It is safe, private and best of all has completely wonderful sea views.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Lovely house, beautiful views and wonderful hosts.

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful house with wonderful view. Very spacious and underfloor heating made it very cosy - even in the snow. The outdoor decking and garden made a lovely play space. Kate and Gavin are the most thoughtful hosts - the gifts of home made baking were delicious. Kate and son even rescued us when we got the car stuck up in the mountains! Would thoroughly recommend for a lovely relaxing break.

This was our second stay here and it won’t be our last!

The property is amazing, very modern and the under floor heating an absolute joy in February!

The views are stunning and everything you need is close by whether it’s a beach, a restaurant or a pub.

Can’t wait to come again!

Ultimate relaxation in a beautiful house

  • 5 of 5

We had the most relaxing time in this wonderful house. Tara house is fully equipped with everything one would need for your stay. It is very clean and well maintained. It is located in the most wonderful setting with beautiful views of Lough Foyle and relaxing on the decking with a glass of wine is a really lovely experience. From the moment we got there we felt at home. The owners had left a welcome gift and whenever we needed anything at all they were very responsive and lovely to deal with. I would highly recommend Tara house to anyone who would like to visit this beautiful part of Donegal.

very good

  • 4 of 5

Poor that there was no soap for 3 bathrooms. There needs to be a check on the utensil drawer and some cooking equipment. However the house is very comfortable and very well equipped & a view to die for over Loch Foyle.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review Martin. We do not provide soap as it would lead to too much waste with part-used bars of soap being discarded after each guest has stayed. I will check the kitchen equipment and make sure it is up to standard. Best wishes. Kate
