About Eric Freitag

My wife and I are both in the creative fields. I manage the design and development of new products (ie. housewares, consumer electronics) and my wife is a practicing artist based in New York City. We have two kids who enjoy coming to the lake on weekends, holidays and summer. The lakehouse is a retreat for us all, and we couldn't live in the city without it.

Eric Freitag purchased this cottage in 2004

Why Eric Freitag chose Starrucca

I'm an avid fly fisherman and have been coming to the area for many years. We spent about 2 years looking for the right house in the right location, and found this spot in the dead of winter, and immediately knew it was a gem. The broker said that if we liked it in the middle of a blizzard, we'd love it during the summer . . .

What makes this cottage unique

This part of rural PA is special, because it's like time stops out here. Renters always ask us for a list of local attractions, but we find that almost all of the people who come to the lake barely leave the comforts of the house and lakefront. Come see for yourself.

Wedding Week Lakehouse Rental With Extended Family

  • 5 of 5

6 adults and 3 children ages 2, 5 and 7 traveled from CO and TX to attend our daughter’s wedding. The lakehouse had more than enough room for all of us. Despite the rainy weather we still had a day or two to enjoy fishing and boating! There were plenty of toys for the kids and the kitchen had everything I needed to make family meals. The neighbors were extremely helpful with dinner suggestions and things to do. We took fun walks and saw a fox family by the interesting ship in the field. During our walk a long time resident walking her dog guides us to a waterfall.

I work virtually and the Internet was super so I was able to work early and late evening.

If we lived closer we would definitely rent again.

Fantastic place, fantastic location. We didn't even manage to get out of the house to go skiing.

  • 5 of 5

Fantastically appointed, and very welcoming, this is a house to which to aspire. The countryside is beautiful, and there's not much to distract you from that. We hardly remembered civilization existed. We'll be coming back.

Wonderful stay in Shehawken

  • 5 of 5

Great week! This house is as described. Modern with historical fixtures and appliances. The other reviews are accurate, it's a well-kept home, newly renovated, clean, and open. Here are a few highlights and considerations.

Highlights:

*very quiet and charming lake community

*very nice and friendly neighbors

*huge screened porch with grill

*lake is clean

*lots of water toys

*well-stocked kitchen and pantry

*owners are very responsive

*the swim dock is so much fun

*the view of the lake is spectacular and changes dramatically with weather and time of day.

Considerations:

*VERY quiet lake community so if your kids are as loud as mine, you might be shushing a lot :)

*the only store nearby stocks only the basics, nearest supermarket is 15 minutes away.

*Recycling isn't collected, you need to bring it to the Preston Township building on Saturday from 9-noon and sort it into bins. Some recyclables aren't accepted

*its a steep hill down to the lake from the house (with stepping stones) and this week was pretty marshy at the bottom due to some heavy rains.

*Noise and light carry throughout the house. It's very easy to hear what's happening throughout the house.

*There are several lifevest for kids but only one larger one. You might want to bring some.
