Sun-filled Home close to The Loop & Wash U! - Two Bedroom House, Sleeps 4

About the property

Two Bedroom House, Sleeps 4

Entire 2 bedroom 1 bathroom home with garage to yourself in an ideal location in University City. What guests love about my home is the proximity: everything is a 2-5min drive away! Restaurants (The Loop!), shops, Washington University, & Forest Park! They also love the cozy sun room & nearby dog park. Some guests have commented negatively on the neighborhood, as the home is on a main street, but it is a safe, quiet family street, in the midst of gentrification & getting better all the time.

The Space:

LGBTA friendly household. No smoking indoors.

Beautiful, newly renovated home with nice wood floors. Two bedrooms, each furnished with a queen sized bed that comfortable sleeps 2 and dresser plus closet for clothing storage.

Fully enclosed, grassy backyard great for children or people traveling with pets. Two homes down from the community garden and University City dog park.

Washer and Dryer also located in the basement.

The living room has a 46" Samsung Flat Screen TV, with Chromecast which transforms it into a smart TV to easily stream Netflix, Hulu, YouTube and more easily from your smart phone or computer. A super comfy couch and 2 sitting chairs.

The kitchen is fully stocked with all the dishes, cookware, plates, etc you could need.

Sun room sitting area off of the kitchen. Perfect cozy reading nook.

Bathroom is stocked with towels, some toiletries, and a hair dryer.

1 car Garage is available for car storage for guests.

$95 Pet fee per animal, we can only accept non shedding dogs and cats at this time. Simply let me know that you are traveling with an animal and I will adjust the rate for you. Please clean up dog droppings in the yard.

Guest Access:

You have full range of the home. 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, living room, kitchen, garage.

Interaction with Guests:

I will only be interacting with you via email and phone/text. The housekeeper is also available for emergencies and I have a great handyman if anything needs work.

The Neighborhood:

Excellent location! 2-3min drive to anything on The Loop (restaurants, shops, movie theater, concert hall, etc.), 5min drive to Washington University, 5min drive to Forest Park (bigger than Central Park in NYC with museums, a zoo, golf course, etc.). Also easy access to Public Transportation.

Only 15min from the airport!

Getting Around:

Although a car is recommended you could rent a bike or take ubers to get around. The home is a walkable distance to the Loop but I wouldn't rely on that alone. The Summers are hot and humid and the Winter has snow, plus walking is not recommended at night. Uber/lyft are great options if you are carless.

If you are driving cross country, this is an excellent choice because you have a secure garage to leave your packed car in. Also have close access to public buses and metrolink.

Other Things to Note:

$95 Pet fee, we can only accept non shedding dogs and cats at this time, that are traveling with a crate/carrier. Simply let me know that you are traveling with an animal and I will adjust the rate for you. Please clean up droppings in the yard, keep pets off of the beds/furniture, and lock them in their crate if they will be home alone.

House Rules:

• No smoking

Convenient and Comfortable

  • 5 of 5

Overall, the property was exactly what we hoped for -a place that was comfortable for visiting with friends not seen for years. I was surprised to find the host even provided amenities for the bath in case we had forgotten something. The kitchen was workable and even supplied with spices! The street was fairly quiet and the location close to a grocery and an easy drive to Forest Park (the Muny was our destination). We will definitely consider it for any future stays!

Comfortable House

  • 4 of 5

House was as described. It was clean, the bed comfortable, plenty of towels. The kitchen was in good condition and all appliances worked. The house appears to be in a recently gentrifying area. We went out for several walks with no problems and would stay here again if we are in the area. The owner was easy to contact and prompt with responses.

Our family enjoyed our stay at this property. We were only there to sleep, since there is so much to do in St. Louis. The property is near all the attractions, which makes it nice. The house inside looks just like the pictures. Everything was clean and gtg when we arrived. Only thing I saw that really isn't a big deal was there wasn't a toilet paper holder. Toilet paper was sitting on top of the toilet. Overall we will stay here again on our next visit. Which we come typically once or twice a year.

Owner's Response: Thank you for writing a review. I am glad you enjoyed your stay. A previous guest broke the toilet paper holder off from the wall so we are in the process of getting a free standing one to replace it. I was disappointed to see we lost 2 starts just for the missing paper holder. In the future, I would appreciate feedback like this to be sent privately, and then we would have been able to tell you we are already working on it.

Clean, Near a Good Area, Character!

  • 4 of 5

The home was easy to find and it was near a fun and upscale neighborhood. The street it was on isn't as nice as the area around it, but we did not feel unsafe. The house looked clean and pretty well maintained, and the owner was kind the few times we communicated. The beds and floors made A LOT of noise, but we were so thankful to have a clean bed, we didn't care! Cute house, fun layout, great for our one night stay.

Served the purpose, at a great rate.

  • 4 of 5

The house itself is lovely and comfortable and served all our needs. The neighborhood is not dangerous, but it's not cute either. It is utilitarian. The owner was not willing to extend the checkout past 11, and that pretty much was a bummer after a late night out and losing an hour to daylight savings. I had requested late checkout when I made the booking, but was told no, which I could understand because it is conceivable that someone would book for Sunday. I tried again Saturday night and Sunday morning during our stay and was met with radio silence. I tried texting both numbers in the welcome email, and calling the number she left for "immediate assistance" but they had no record of my reservation.

Owner's Response: The neighborhood is in the process of being gentrified and is in incredible proximity to all the happenings (bars, restaurants, theaters, shops) on the loop. We could not extend her check out as the cleaner needs the time between 11am check out and 2pm check in to prepare for the next guest. I had previously explained that to this guest. When she texted me I was on a cruise with no service. Unfortunately my assistant only has access to the bookings on Airbnb as I don't get many off of HomeAway/VRBO but I see that is an oversight and I am sorry she was not able to get assistance although I had previously answered her questions.

Such Potential

  • 2 of 5

The house is so cute and has great potential. The location was very good, just a few blocks away from the Loop (easy walk), and was close to the interstate. It was also a short drive to Forest Park and, in the other direction, the airport. Although there is some traffic on the street where the house is located – it is a quiet quaint neighborhood.

Unfortunately, due to the basement feel and smell of the house (very musty) and the need for a dehumidifier, both my son and I became ill. This house is less than conducive for individuals with even mild allergies.

As far as cleanliness, there is dust on all the furniture and coat of it on the floors. I can understand the need for taking shoes off upon entry (the wood floors are beautiful), however, the floors were very dusty! The cabinets and counter tops were sticky and a burner was left open on the stove, which caused gas fumes. There were spider webs throughout out the house and the covered patio had cracked and broken windows. Furthermore, there was trash, such as old t-shirts and bags of tiles or cement, in various places in the backyard. The house and covered patio need a thorough cleaning from ceiling to floor and the backyard needs sprucing. It is an adorable house that needs some love and care!

Owner's Response: This review is such a disappointment. We do everything in our power to create a nice experience for guests. If there was any issue with cleanliness, all the guest had to do was mention it and I would have had it corrected instantly. I have been working with the same cleaner for quite some time and the home has been consistently rented this Summer, so I cannot imagine how the furniture would be dusty as it is being continually cleaned and used. If there was a need to a dehumidifier. again I would have provided one. This doesn't really make sense as the whole home is climate controlled with a/c but if guests are coming from a less humid place, maybe they are sensitive and again I would have accommodated. We have not done any cement or tile work, so the only thing I can thing the bags may be is soil/fertilizer. I will be in touch with the gardener to make sure it's a little more organized. We have regular lawn care and someone who plants flowers/etc. so the lawn should be in nice shape. I want to express that the guest never made mention of any of these issues, which would have let us correct them, which is truly a shame. I hope you do not let this dissuade you from staying with us.
