Description

Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday home in University City

2 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom, 4 Sleeps

Entire 2 bedroom 1 bathroom home with garage to yourself in an ideal location in University City. What guests love about my home is the proximity: everything is a 2-5min drive away! Restaurants (The Loop!), shops, Washington University, & Forest Park! They also love the cozy sun room & nearby dog park. Some guests have commented negatively on the neighborhood, as the home is on a main street, but it is a safe, quiet family street, in the midst of gentrification & getting better all the time.

LGBTA friendly household. No smoking indoors.

Beautiful, newly renovated home with nice wood floors. Two bedrooms, each furnished with a queen sized bed that comfortable sleeps 2 and dresser plus closet for clothing storage.

Fully enclosed, grassy backyard great for children or people traveling with pets. Two homes down from the community garden and University City dog park.

Washer and Dryer also located in the basement.

The living room has a 46" Samsung Flat Screen TV, with Chromecast which transforms it into a smart TV to easily stream Netflix, Hulu, YouTube and more easily from your smart phone or computer. A super comfy couch and 2 sitting chairs.

The kitchen is fully stocked with all the dishes, cookware, plates, etc you could need.

Sun room sitting area off of the kitchen. Perfect cozy reading nook.

Bathroom is stocked with towels, some toiletries, and a hair dryer.

1 car Garage is available for car storage for guests.

$95 Pet fee per animal, we can only accept non shedding dogs, cats at this time.

Such Potential

  • 2 of 5

The house is so cute and has great potential. The location was very good, just a few blocks away from the Loop (easy walk), and was close to the interstate. It was also a short drive to Forest Park and, in the other direction, the airport. Although there is some traffic on the street where the house is located – it is a quiet quaint neighborhood.

Unfortunately, due to the basement feel and smell of the house (very musty) and the need for a dehumidifier, both my son and I became ill. This house is less than conducive for individuals with even mild allergies.

As far as cleanliness, there is dust on all the furniture and coat of it on the floors. I can understand the need for taking shoes off upon entry (the wood floors are beautiful), however, the floors were very dusty! The cabinets and counter tops were sticky and a burner was left open on the stove, which caused gas fumes. There were spider webs throughout out the house and the covered patio had cracked and broken windows. Furthermore, there was trash, such as old t-shirts and bags of tiles or cement, in various places in the backyard. The house and covered patio need a thorough cleaning from ceiling to floor and the backyard needs sprucing. It is an adorable house that needs some love and care!

Owner's Response: This review is such a disappointment. We do everything in our power to create a nice experience for guests. If there was any issue with cleanliness, all the guest had to do was mention it and I would have had it corrected instantly. I have been working with the same cleaner for quite some time and the home has been consistently rented this Summer, so I cannot imagine how the furniture would be dusty as it is being continually cleaned and used. If there was a need to a dehumidifier. again I would have provided one. This doesn't really make sense as the whole home is climate controlled with a/c but if guests are coming from a less humid place, maybe they are sensitive and again I would have accommodated. We have not done any cement or tile work, so the only thing I can thing the bags may be is soil/fertilizer. I will be in touch with the gardener to make sure it's a little more organized. We have regular lawn care and someone who plants flowers/etc. so the lawn should be in nice shape. I want to express that the guest never made mention of any of these issues, which would have let us correct them, which is truly a shame. I hope you do not let this dissuade you from staying with us.

Excellent location, clean house, reasonably priced!! A great place to stay in St. Louis!

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect house for our last minute spring break vacation with our 3 kids and dog. When I was looking for places, my criteria were reasonably priced and allowed pets. I don't know St. Louis very well so I honestly didn't even know how the location would work for us to go see all of the St. Louis sites. It's a PERFECT location for seeing all of the must-do's in St. Louis. It's in University City, which is where Washington University is located. You pass the main part of the University and all of these amazing, old brick mansions. We were lucky enough to be there in March when all of the trees were blooming. It is a few blocks away from the main street in University City that has all of the stores, coffee shops and restaurants. A few blocks up from the house is a huge community park with a playground, baseball diamonds and track for running. There is a grocery store less than a block away.

The Zoo is SO close, you don't even have to get back on the highway. Easy on off access to the highway and we could get to all of the attractions within 10-20 minutes. We did drive out to Purina Farms which is about 30-40 minutes away, but that would be the case no matter where you were in St. Louis because it's out of the city. We did not realize, but there is a small fenced backyard which was a perfect place for our little dog to run around and get some energy out. The house was clean and comfortable. The sheets and towels were well laundered and very soft. We had access to Comcast (I think that's what it's called) where we could log into our own Netflix and Hulu accounts, so that was a great way to wind down at the end of the day.

It was nice to be able to park our vehicle in the garage and we had easy access into the house. We were able to save money by eating breakfast and most dinners at the house, as well as packing lunches for our day adventures (zoo, City Museum, Science Center, Purina Farms, Budweiser tour). We ate at Blueberry Hill which is right downtown in University City. We probably could have even walked back from there. I wish we would have had more time to explore University City because it is an adorable little college town.

The home owner was great at communicating and our security deposit was promptly refunded after our return. All in all, we REALLY lucked out since this was kind of a shot in the dark! I would highly recommend this house over staying in a hotel any day!! And there is laundry!!

Nice place for a family to stay.

  • 4 of 5

We have a four night stay and really enjoyed the house. We could walk to the Loop during the day but drove at night. Street outside was a little noisy at night, but it is in a busy part of the city. The house was clean except under the beds (lots of dust bunnies found). Loved having a nice kitchen to make breakfast and sandwiches for lunch on the go. It is not fancy, but definitely a nice a cozy home away from home.

Why no pictures of the outside? Now I know why! Shabby house.

  • 2 of 5

There's a good reason why this listing doesn't have any external photos of the house... it's a humble track house on a low-end street. I found out quickly that the neighborhoods in this area change quickly from street to street -- this house is a good example of going from good to not-so-good. While billed as 'near the Loop', this house is well off the beaten path and quite a haul from 'the Loop'. Moreover, the street is simply unappealing; track houses, very little privacy, loud street noises, etc.

If you're looking to be near the park, down by the Loop, or the Central West End do some research on the areas and find a place that's actually where you want to be. This place was disappointing in terms of the curb appeal (there is none) and location (it's not two blocks from the Loop).

Inside, the home was OK. The cleaning crew must have left there broom in the truck... the floors hadn't been swept in quite some time. The house only has one electrical outlet that can accommodate a three prong plug (for my computer) and that outlet is in the kitchen. Made it nearly impossible to use my computer at this house.

Overall, this house is just OK. The best thing that can be said, is that it's not that expensive... so there you go.

Owner's Response: It greatly saddens me when these rare reviews come through. As a long time sharer of my homes, I am a big advocate for the share economy, believing that bringing people in promotes trust and friendliness in the world and that opening a home rather than keeping it locked away for my own, less frequent use, keeps it alive with others energy and creates more housing opportunities and affordability. I just purchased this home in November and it was remodeled down to the studs! It is beautifully redone inside and newly furnished with style and care. The outside of the home, is, I imagine, still mostly the same as it's original 1950s build, but many homes in STL are from the 1900s, so it's quite new. I think it's cute, but maybe I'm biased. This website requires a certain pixel size photo and I haven't gotten one up yet of the outside, will do soon! I am not sure what this guest is talking about with regards to the Loop, because it is only a 3 block, 10 min walk away or a 2 min drive. I'd say that's pretty darned close! The area is just getting better and better as more restaurants/shops, etc move into the loop and as they build the new trolley that will go up and down Del Mar. This home is one house over from a community garden, a dog park, and a half a block from the very ritzy University Heights neighborhood. If you want sterile perfection, stay at a hotel. If you want culture and a local feel, homes are the best way to go! I hope this review doesn't stop you from giving our place a try. We love hosting and would love to have you.

This was a very clean and well decorated home. The location of the home is very safe and close to parks, dog parks, grocery stores, the loop and local restaurants. We were centrally located to our family, friends and home church we grew up in. You are guaranteed to love this home it's fully stocked with any and everything you need for a short or long stay. Okay

To be fair -- I think there was a lot of miscommunication. The house was dirty when we arrived, and Zeona was happy to waive the cleaning fee. The "second bathroom" is very hard to find; way down in the basement at the very back where it's not that accessible. It's very close to the Loop, which was nice. But the worst part, and again - I don't know who's fault this was, but we were charged for a broken bed that we didn't break. We can't prove it wasn't us, but it was definitely broken when we got there. The house wasn't attended to very well and I don't think we'll be staying there again.

Owner's Response: The house had been cleaned and the all sheets changed, towels swapped out. Although there was a miscommunication about the downstairs bathroom having been cleaned due to new Housekeepers, who I was surprised to find, weren't familiar with the complete layout. As it was our mistake, I immediately waived the cleaning fee and offered to send someone out to clean it. My housekeeper reported immediately upon cleaning that the bed frame had been broken so I expect she would have told me if it was done by another guest. I also believe I was quite fair in the charge as I only charged $45 which covered the handyman's fee to rebuild and reinforce it, despite the back of the headboard being shredded, showing mistreatment and extreme damage. I would like to politely disagree, with the statement that the house wasn't well attended to. My team cares deeply and takes pride in their work. It is a beautiful, well decorated little home. It's always disappointing when guests are unappreciative of the gift we give in opening our homes and it feels very disrespectful when your home is not cared for.
