About the property

Recently Renovated 4 Bedroom + 2 1/2 Bathroom Home Plus Outdoor Shower

For years it has locally been known as the Hydrangea House because of all of its wonderful Hydrangea. Our home is ideally situated at the waterfront end of our 400' deep property overlooking the Peconic Bay. There is a recently renovated master bedroom with a king bed and full bathroom on the main floor tucked in a secluded corner for solitude and relaxation. The rest of the main floor includes another recenlty renovated full bathroom, eat-in-kitchen, living room, family room and laundry room. The kitchen is fully equipped with all new appliances including gas stove top, electric oven, dishwasher, refrigerator and microwave; as well as Calphalon pans, mixer, toaster, food processor, blender, baking pans and fine wine glasses. Everything to enjoy eating at home. Our home has central air conditioning but rarely needs it as a nice breeze comes off the water almost every afternoon. The living room has a working fireplace and large sliding glass doors with the views of the bay. The family room has a large flat screen tv with cable. Both the living room and family room lead to a large 60 foot deck spanning the width of the house. The deck has an outdoor table that seats 8, an umbrella as well as a separate seating area for cocktails and wine tasting. Adjacent to the deck is the gas grill that is connected to the house gas line. The outdoor shower is next to the door to the kitchen.

The backyard is big enough to play croquet, wiffle ball, badminton, catch .... There is a second deck closer to the bay for morning coffee or lunch. There are stairs that lead to a third deck area with another table and chairs, lounge chairs and kayak storage. Another set of stairs lead to the beach.

The second floor has three bedrooms and a half bath. One bedroom has a queen bed, the other two bedrooms each have two twin beds. We provide linens (all beds are made upon arrival), towels, beach towels and beach chairs.

The house is set back from the street which provides privacy and an expansive front yard for games of football or practicing your short game.

The yard is professionally manicured with numerous hydrangea bushes lining the driveway and parking area.

Please note that this house is not appropriate for parties or events. We ask that our guests do not have more than twelve people at the home at any time.

About Eileen

We bought this house for our young family to have an escape on the water that was convenient to get to from our primary home. Our children's schedules are so busy that we aren't able to use it all the time so choose to rent it out when we aren't there.

Eileen purchased this house in 2000

Why Eileen chose Jamesport

The house is situated above the water providing spectacular views of the Peconic Bay. It is located in one acre to provide ample space to spread out, privacy and quiet. But centrally located near many great restaurants, outlet and antique shopping and many wineries near by.

What makes this house unique

Spectacular views of the Peconic Bay from the house and our three decks. Easy access to wineries, restaurants and shopping. Large front lawn area almost 100 yards long provides a unique play area.

The Hydrangea House - Beautiful Home With a Private Beach On Peconic Bay
average rating of 5.0 based on 5 reviews

A paradise down by the bay!

  • 5 of 5

Thinking about our family vacation at the Hydrangea House brings a smile to my face. My husband and I were looking for a tranquil escape within driving distance from our home in the city, that would also be safe and fun with our 2 year old in tow. When we came across this property in our online search, it looked like a great fit. While the photos and description on this site are wonderful, I have to say that our expectations were exceeded.

The home is right on the Peconic Bay. The long, hydrangea-lined driveway leading to the house provides a sense of privacy and tranquility. Once you enter the house and look out the windows, you are greeted by a beautiful view of the Bay, which is literally steps away.

The property was very well appointed enabling us to make the most of our stay. Beginning with the outside, a large patio and grill made for an enjoyable outdoor mealtime with family and friends. Once you walk across the yard, there are two sets of steps leading down toward the beach. The first set of steps takes you to a level where the beach equipment is stored: kayaks, canoes, life vests, beach chairs, etc. and has a nice area to lounge just above the beach. We found the Bay to be a source of great fun for the whole family. The water was clear enough to see our feet, and even though it was mid-May, it was warm enough to swim. This was probably because it is relatively shallow - on some days we could kayak several hundred yards out and still be able to stand in the water (especially great given that we had our toddler, and wanted her to enjoy the water safely). A more ambitious group might be able to kayak across to the South Fork :)

The inside of the house was spotless and had everything needed for a comfortable stay. The kitchen and cleaning appliances were modern and heating/cooling/water controls were all working well. There was also ample room for everyone to "spread out" which made accommodating other family members and friends who came to visit easy to do. Each room was stocked with several baskets of clean linens. Another nice surprise was that one of the upstairs rooms had a toddler bed, and we were able to transition our daughter from a crib to a "big girl bed" on this trip. She also enjoyed the well-stocked toy box when we spent time indoors.

The owners Eileen and Jeff were an absolute pleasure to work with. They responded promptly to any questions and went out of their way to make our stay wonderful. Thank you!

Six Days of Heaven!

  • 5 of 5

"The Hydrangea House" is truly a place of beauty, comfort and peace. As you drive up the hydrangea-lined driveway, you can feel yourself begin to relax. Upon entering the house, you find lovely, comfortable furnishings with personal touches that make you feel at home right away. The kitchen was very well-stocked with every pot, pan and utensil you might need to cook great meals, which you could enjoy while overlooking the beautiful bay. All of the beds were very comfortable and there were lots of storage spaces for luggage and clothes. Each bathroom had an endless supply of plush towels from which to choose and having two and a half bathrooms was such a convenience for our family. There were books, games and movies from which to choose when the rain came as well.

There is a deck just outside the sliding glass doors for outside dining, another deck at the edge of the grassy yard for viewing the entire bay and another one down the stairs closest to the water. The kayaks, paddle boards, floating “toys” and life vests that came with the house allowed us to enjoy a lot of time enjoying the water.

It is important to mention Eileen, the owner of the house, and how helpful and accessible she was throughout the rental process and when we had questions while we were at the house. She replied promptly to every inquiry we had, as this was our first experience finding a property online, and sent us information about wineries, places of interest in the area, where to buy fresh produce and groceries as well as guiding us to the church we attended. Her goal was to ensure that our stay was as enjoyable as it could be and she succeeded. Our family will definitely consider returning to “The Hydrangea House” in the future!

Very special spot

Both the home and property are beautiful, well-appointed and tranquil. While the photos are not in any way misleading, they do not fully capture the property's many remarkable features: gorgeous, pristine grounds; spectacular views; well-designed, sparking clean interior and exterior spaces; and a wonderful mix of private and public areas inside and out. Helpful and welcoming owners make the rental process stress-free. The location could not be better: the beautiful Peconic Bay is just steps away; farm stands, markets, movies and other conveniences are minutes away; meanwhile, the world is--or feels--miles away. Fabulous in every way!

My family and I stayed here for a long weekend and felt as if it was our own home. The house is perfect for a family or group of friends. The amenities were more like a bed and breakfast than a rental house. The owners were the most kind and welcoming people that we have ever rented from. They even called me the week prior offering an extra day free of charge due to its availability. Owner also allowed us to use their kayaks and paddle board. It's also perfectly located on the island with easy access to all the nearby things to do. Literally seconds from shops and the wine trails and just minutes to the beach. We truly felt like we were home. Going pumpkin and apple picking at Harpes Farms and Woodside Orchard was effortless and avoided all the traffic. We could not have ask for a better vacation.

Best location on the north fork. We've rented this house for 15 straight summers. Wouldn't consider any other spot. We rarely leave the house because everything we need is right there to enjoy the perfect and relaxing vacation. Perfect with the kids or without. 👍
