One of the most exceptional rentals in Gaucin. Beautiful, comfortable, spacious, fully-equipped 3 bedroom apartment is at the edge of the Ronda mountains, with spectacular views of the countryside, Gibraltar, the Straits, and Morocco. Gaucin is a perfect base for exploring western Andalucia (Sevilla, Cordoba, Cadiz, Granada, Gibraltar, etc. --- & Tangier.) Or you can just chill out, in the tranquillity and authenticity of a working Spanish pueblo. The apartment has all mod cons, incl. flat screen TV, separate shower stalls, top quality beds & linens for a perfect night´s rest. Beach is only 25 minutes away. Everything in the town is walking distance. Over 100 marked hiking trails - spectacular countryside, olive & almond orchards, horses & sheep, wild boar, etc. Birding - It is in the path of migratory birds. Tapas bars, restaurants, a great unspoiled castle overlooking panoramic view. The town dates from Iberian times, with Phoenician, Roman, Moorish and French invaders
Gaucin is a walkers´ paradise: Gaucin is in the mountains of Ronda; there are over 150 marked walks and several mountains to climb. During the off-season there are two scheduled group walks per week. Because Gaucin is 640 m altitude, the weather during the summer is mild, and walkers continue to go out even in the summer months. Mountain biking and birding are also popular.
Gaucin is an ideal base to explore Andalucía: There is a train from Gaucin to Granada and Algeciras that is most picturesque and efficient. Ronda is 30 minutes away on a beautiful scenic new route. The Roman baths outside of Manilva are 30 minutes away, and totally accessible. The coastal towns of Marbella, Estepona and Gibraltar are less than an hour away. Sevilla is 2 hours, Cordoba 3 hours, and Cádiz 2.5 hours. There is also a first class cave within an hour away, with 40 different layers of cave cultures, many cave paintings etc, within an hour´s drive.
The village of Gaucin is Great!!: There are tapas bars and restaurants, a great unspoiled castle overlooking a 360o view of the area, special fiestas all year long. It is set in spectacular countryside, with olive and almond orchards, lots of horses and sheep, and wonderful wildlife, including our own herd of Ibex Hispánica (wild sheep), eagles, wild boar, etc etc. It is in the path of migratory birds coming and going to Africa. The town dates back from Iberian times, and has had Phoenicians, Romans, Moors and French invaders.
The description and photos of the Toro Apartment are completely accurate! We loved every moment of our stay. The beauty, both inside and out, is just an added bonus to a well fitted apartment where great care has been taken to meet your every need. Our hosts were away in Rome, at the time of our visit, but they spent much time in e-mails and phone calls to assure that we had a wonderful stay...even stepping in to help, from afar, when we had lost luggage. Florencia, the maid, and her family were more than helpful with anything that we needed in the owner's absence. Please rely on the suggestions for places to visit and eat that are in the information book in the apt., it won't steer you wrong! We went on long day trips to the normal "must see" cities, but also enjoyed a lot of the little off the beaten track spots near by. We were on our own for everything except our trip to Tangier. If you're interested, there is info for a guide in the information book. I can tell you without reserve, the apartment, the people of Gaucin, the food, and the beauty of the Andalucia area, make it well worth a visit! Do rent a small car, our car was too large to navigate the streets with ease, but, not impossible. My only regret for this stay...not having enough time there. ?
Sylvia's apartment is in great condition and has an open floor plan perfect for vacation! The outdoor dining was fine for breakfast and lunch if you're there in November. Be sure to enjoy the deck with spectacular views and yummy sunshine on a cool day. Though you know you'll see the Rock of Gibraltar, the Mediterranean and the mountains of Morocco; it's magical, especially the lights twinkling at night in Morocco. The listing is accurate and we'd stay again in a minute. Loved being able to easily walk around the charming village, with limited tourists. We took a fabulous photography workshop with Geoff Simpson, a Brit, who lives there now. The phenomenal workshop was focused on us getting our images not Geoff getting his. Geoff, a national geo photographer knows the perfect places to go and times to be there. If you're a photography enthusiast check it out. We never would have found the spots on our own. Besides he's lots of fun too. Though we spent time in Sevilla and Grenada, Gaucin was a highlight of our 2 11/2 weeks in Spain!
This is a lovely apartment in a lovely quiet town. Roomy and modern, with a great balcony to while away the hours. All the conveniences you need, and Sylvia makes sure that everything works exactly as it should. Highly recommended, we can't wait to come back.
The ´´Toro´´ apartment gave me the best vacation of my life. I reccommend this apartment to anybody looking to relax and enjoy true Spanish life. The yellow and white decor, right down to the matching books and DVD´s, gave the perfect backdrop to our stay. The open terrace gives the perfect opportunity to enjoy the view outside, overlooking the famous Rock of Gibralter and even Africa on a clear day. I loved walking through the quaint town, discovering my favorite place to get churros or a cafe con leche in the morning, and watching the townspeople go about their daily business. You can even hear the classic Spanish yell in the street--Tio! Hombre! Que pasa!--making me feel a part of a true community rather than just a tourist trap. I highly reccommend Gaucin, and Sylvia and Joe´s apartments, to anyone looking for an authentic Spanish feel with a beautiful view and a wonderful location.
Gaucin is a white village in the Ronda mountains. This area attracts nature lovers as well as sightseers. We are on a major route for migratory birds, a mecca for hikers and mountain bikers. There is a lot of equestrian action, with several groups and riding rings. The town itself has a beautiful unspoiled Moorish castle and good tapas bars and restaurants. It is a perfect base to discover western Andalucia: We are 30 mins from Ronda, 25 ins from the Coast (Sabinillas), 1 hr -- Marbella, 1 hr Gibraltar; 1hr 15 mins Tarifa, 1 hr Algeciras where the ferry goes to Tanger and Ceuta on the African Coast, 2.5 hrs - Sevilla; 2.5 hrs Granada, 3 hrs -- Córdoba.
