nestled amongst the pines and the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, on the high road to Taos, lies the village of Truchas. The Village was founded in the year 1754 by the King of Spain who granted land to several families (of which many still remain). There are numerous artisans that live and work in the village. Weavers, potters, sculptors, painters, wood carvers, furniture makers, contemporary and traditional. We have many galleries and open studios for you to explore. I have two bedrooms each with wireless internet, the larger of the two has a kiva fireplace and a wood burning stove. Both rooms have a flat screen TV. A small library with internet access (where I serve coffee, tea, fresh juice and homemade biscuits and jams) also has a wood burning stove for those chilly winter mornings. Down comforters and pillows are in both rooms. A shared bathroom with new mexican tiles around the shower and sink areas. We do not offer kitchen facilities, there is a refrigerator, microwave and an outdoor barbecue for your use. Restaurants are within a ten to twenty minute drive. Pets allowed (if agreeable with my pets) Laundry facilities are available. Hiking and Biking out the front door. And for those who fish, ski, golf or horse back ride, you can find all of that and much more within a twenty mile range. Santa Fe is 45 minutes south, Ojo Caliente Hot Springs 45 minutes West and Taos one hour north. If you are a writer, an artist or someone who just enjoys the clean mountain air and the beauty that surrounds you, you will find paradise in our home and the magic of Truchas and Northern New Mexico.

I landed at Lorey's home on a Monday evening for a work assignment. I was met with such thoughtful accommodations that I felt I was on vacation. Lovely space. Lovely woman. Thanks, Lorey!
My husband and I really enjoyed our stay at Lorey's while we attended a wedding nearby. It was clean, quiet, and full of NM charm. Lorey catered to us from the point we made the reservation through to our departure. A lovely bottle of wine and a warm fire were waiting for us upon arrival and a healthy breakfast with warm homemade muffins was provided each morning. The location was perfect for day trips on the High Road to Taos and even skiing at Sipapu (great little ski area!!). We look forward to visiting again in the summer.
This is our third stay at Lorey's beautiful Getaway, although our first during the winter season. What a delight! To us, this represents why New Mexico is referred to as the "Land of Enchantment". Beauty, culture, nature, unique architecture, light, sky, peace and harmony. All without the feeling of being among the mass of tourists. Wonderful wine, great breakfast, lovely accommodations, and ALWAYS great conversation with the host. A perfect location for outdoor activities, including hiking, photography, cross-country or downhill skiing and snowshoeing. Nothing better than a day of activity in any number of easily accessible locations and return to this B & B for true relaxation! We'll be back!
We stayed at Lorey's beautiful home on a recent visit to Truchas for the High Road to Taos Art Tour. We arrived at the end of the day and experienced a beautiful sunset and stunning moon rise. Back at the house we enjoyed our complimentary bottle of wine in the peaceful and comfortable side yard. The rooms were spacious and very clean and the morning breakfast was a wonderful treat. Lorey was a perfect hostess. She let us stay the next day until we were ready to leave, no set departure time and did not require additional cleaning fees or a damage deposit. The room rates were extremely reasonable. Her dogs were wonderful and she encouraged us to bring ours on our next visit. Truchas is amazing and so beautiful. The art tour was excellent. We can't wait to return!
Being New Mexico natives, in love with Northern New Mexico, having toured extensively for ever, we found Northern New Mexico Getaway a real jewel. We have been to Truchas a few times through the years but never suspected you could actually spend quality time there. Lorey has established a very comfortable, picturesque, homey and excellent point of beginning for many Northern New Mexico adventures. And in the Fall...Optimum! The breakfasts were excellent, the advice for restaurants we were not aware of beneficial and delightful. We will be return visitors as often as possible. Thank you Lorey!
We absolutely enjoyed this beautiful getaway in Truchas. It was quiet, relaxing and perfect. The rooms were comfortable and we loved the decor. The complimentary wine was savored on the porch in the evening and the fresh, hot cherry muffins for breakfast were delicious! We are definitely planning a return visit.
