About Donovan Goebert

The Log House is a family treasure dedicated to 5 stepbrothers, Christopher, Scolaighe, Donovan, Daniel, and Dominic by their parents Chris and Maria to experience for their lifetimes.

Lots were purchased in 2005 on the Lake side (opposite the golf course side) of the Resort and the original Log House was completed in 2007. It hosted hundreds of guests for vacations, reunions, retreats, holiday gatherings, anniversaries, a 100th birthday, two marriage proposals and many other beautiful moments for the following 5 years.

In 2012, it was converted into a full-time residence to escape the rat race of northern VA and provide a smaller and more personal school experience in the Shenandoah Valley for the boys, especially the youngest who continues to make autism feel like a special bonus more than a disability. Another wing was added to include a large master suite, an office, a 3 car garage, and a professional grade gym. A new sun room and breakfast room were added to the original Log House, as well as a sitting room "bridge" to connect the new wing. Outside, a detached log workshop was built and the driveway was upgraded to a U-shape and a beautiful stone stairway and wall from the road to the house was constructed.

In the winter of 2012, Scolaighe chose to marry his beautiful wife Masha at The Log House, nearly twice its original size, The winter wedding ceremony took place on the center stairway witnessed by nearly 100 guests from across the country and the world. It was a magical christening of The Log House with the types of moments it was always meant to inspire.

In 2015 when 2 of the youngest brothers finished high school and began college and the Army National Guard, The Log House 2.0 was converted to a vacation rental home for hundreds more guests to enjoy.

Thank you so much to the family, friends, and returning guests who continue to make The Log House a special, unique, and timeless setting for some of life's most memorable moments.

What makes this cabin unique

The Log House is the only genuine log cabin that is available to rent to large families on the resort and is even displayed on the Bryce Resort webpage within the lodging section! It's breathtaking, but comfortable. Spacious enough for large families, but cozy enough for intimate gatherings, including the brothers' annual family reunions since 2007 and the family's first wedding. Many guests have returned year after year for their own family traditions, and we are confident that The Log House 2.0 will be a huge success. We hope to see YOU at The Log House for your next vacation!

Delightful and clean home

  • 5 of 5

We had three families come to celebrate a 50th wedding anniversary. The house was fantastic. It gave us the space we needed to spread out. We loved being able to sit in the dining and eat together. The downstairs was great for playing games and watching TVs. We will definitely come back.

Terrific stay associated with JMU graduation

  • 5 of 5

Unless you make hotel arrangements when your child is still in diapers, you will have trouble reserving blocks of rooms in Harrisonburg, VA when it comes time for him or her to graduate from JMU. And those rooms will not be anything special. We opted to stay at this AMAZING home, with my son's grandmother, aunts, uncles and cousins arriving from three different states. You can believe all of the positive reviews you will read on this site. It is a terrific house in a beautiful location, and not too far from JMU. On the first night, before everyone arrived, we had brick oven pizza and micro-brew at a tiny place in Edinburg, 20 minutes away. A quirky but memorable experience. One day was beautiful and we hiked and played disc golf at the nearby ski lodge (ski lift up, play on your way down). On the totally rainy day there was plenty of space for different groups to do different things (pool, puzzles, guitar playing, card playing) in different corners of the house without bothering each other. The clan agreed that it would be a terrific place for future family reunions. We will all have some wonderful memories from the weekend.

The Best

  • 5 of 5

Words cannot even explain how much our group enjoyed this property. We had a couples retreat here for the weekend and there was something for everyone to do. The owner was so responsive and kind to us. I am certainly going to be back. Thanks so much for the wonderful hospitality. Thank you so much.

Wonderful stay at this cabin!

  • 5 of 5

I stayed in this lovely cabin with 11 friends for my 30th last weekend and we had an amazingly incredible time. It was so refreshing to be able to arrive and just have everything working and taken care of and not have a single tiny issue the entire weekend! I don’t know that i have ever had that happen in any rental! Owner was VERY communicative and quick to reply to my questions leading up to the day, and the cabin had everything we could possibly need to be entertained and comfortable for a weekend or a week or heck even a month you would be fine staying here. Loved the pool table and the hot tub and the easy walk switch fireplace too! Easy to swat big groups for meals, nice grill. They thought of everything. Stay here!

Amazing private and comfy retreat!

  • 5 of 5

Our group of friends really enjoyed the Log House! The kitchen was well stocked and all the furnishings were extremely comfortable. One suggestion is to bring your own kitchen knives as the provided ones were old, dull, and difficult to cut and chop with. Otherwise all the kitchen appliances and tools were great! We loved using the hot tub each night! The game selection was also very fun since we played a ton of games throughout the weekend. The property owners were very accessible and were able to turn off the security alarm remotely when we arrived Friday afternoon. We also enjoyed our hike on the cross trail at nearby Shrine Mont at the owner’s recommendation in their house binder, which gave us an amazing view at the top! It was one mile round trip, very easy for our group. The WiFi was easily accessed and no one had any drops in service. Everyone in our group really enjoyed the place and we will definitely be back with more friends next time!

Owner's Response: Many Thanks for your review. We will be sure to refresh the knives in the kitchen so guests do not have to bring their own. On an added note, we've made the decision this week to replace the hot-tub with a new and bigger one! Can't wait to have you back.
