Overview

About the property

3 Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths, Sleeps 6

This vacation rental and unique property is perched 125 feet above the Tennessee River in the famous Tennessee River Gorge. It has two decks (upper and lower) as well as a sun room facing the beautiful view of the river as well fabulous views of mountains in all directions rising up to 1200 feet.

To the east, directly across the river, is Raccoon mountain and to the north you can see the famous rock climbing wall called the “T” wall (35.069038, -85.398932). The upper deck has a table and chairs for your morning coffee as well as a charcoal grill. The sunroom has carpeting and comfortable wicker seating with pads. The Lower deck has two swinging wicker love seats with pads, a hammock and ceiling fans.

This vacation rental home is a 3 bedroom 2 1/2 bath fully furnished home. The master bedroom on the main level hosts two twin bed connected with a twin bed bridge, actually making it a king sized bed. The sunroom and the master bath are also attached to the master bedroom. The main level also has the full kitchen and dining area, a half bath, and a comfortable seating area with sliding glass doors leading to the view and the upper deck.

On the lower level of this house you will find the other two bedrooms which have a bunk bed in each room with a twin bed on the top bunk and a full bed on the bottom bunk. The lower level also has a full bath, a laundry room and a comfortable seating area along with with a gas fireplace and a large flat screen TV, but no cable. It also has sliding glass doors leading to the view and onto the lower deck.

Maximum occupancy at all times is 6 people.

There is NO internet and the TV's are for video, dvds only, no channels.

This property is about 18 miles from downtown, but sometimes feels further because of the slow, narrow, winding river road. The view is fantastic however, and provides a wonderful way to slow down from hectic daily life!

DOWN ON THE RIVER If you decide to go down to the river, it is a little over 200 steps (wooden, concrete and large field stones) to get there. Once you get there you will find a huge dock, complete with seating all the way around the upper level and a fire pit right next to the river. The hike back up can to house can be considered strenuous with over 200 steps and a 125 foot climb.

Plan to unplug here as internet is not available.

The Chattanooga, TN-GA Metropolitan Area, is an area consisting of six counties – three in southeast Tennessee (Hamilton, Marion, and Sequatchie) and three in northwest Georgia (Catoosa, Dade, and Walker) – anchored by the city of Chattanooga.

Reviewer Comments:

This house was perfect for a weekend getaway. While not too far from town, you really felt secluded. From the dock, there were great views of all the scenery. We were there at the peak of the fall leaves and it was gorgeous. The weather was great, and we took a beautiful hike on Signal Mountain which wasn't far away. I would recommend this house to anyone!

Reviewer Comments:

We absolutely loved this place! The views were breathtaking and almost surreal! We loved sitting outside just to hear the sounds of nature. Various Birds, crickets, fish jumping in and out of the water, all kinds of animals running jumping and playing it was great. So peaceful and serene. I didn’t want to leave. Such a beautiful home, and well appreciated. Super clean. We went to rock city enchanted lights which wasn’t that far, we loved the mtns views on the way it was a great experience all the way around. I recommend a new can opener we had to use a knife. The only negative thing I can say, is th house especially downstairs had a strong “sewage” smell to it, but we understand when your on side of a mtn not everything is perfect. Might be some drain issues. BUT that’s minor compared to all the other great things about this place. Thank you!

Reviewer Comments:

Interior in excellent shape. Beautiful view of River. Few amenities lacking: No cleaning supplies for wiping down counters or sweeping floors, no satellite or cable. Who uses VHS and Blue Ray anymore? Exterior getting run down. Walk down to River is too far to be enjoyable. No ceiling light in Master Bedroom and bedside lights were not useable for reading. Would help if you inserted "charcoal" in front of "grill" when listing amenities.

Owner's Response: Thank you for coming to stay at River Overlook. We are glad that your enjoyed the house, for the most part. Our houses are a constant work in progress with exterior and interior spaces to improve the guest experience when staying but some things are simply our of our control. I apologize if you were unable to locate the supplies you mentioned in your review. We do provide limited cleaning supples located above the kitchen sink, for small spills, including a broom and dust pan. This house is REMOTE. You may not have internet(unless your hotspot works) and will not have cable at this house, mainly due to the service providers for that area, are not reliable. We are saving you the frustration and giving you the opportunity to "unplug" for a bit. We are allowing you to re-live the past with the antique features of VHS and pushing you toward the future with Blue Ray. So pick up your favorite movies from a Red Box or bring your favorite DVDs on the way to the house. and Enjoy! We explain, in the description, that the hike from the house to the River is not for the faint of heart and vice versa... It is a climb! So plan to sit back and relax once you are down at the dock. Take a picnic, a fishing pole and your favorite book and simply enjoy being outside at one of the prettiest stretches of River in the area. Warning: 220 vertical steps back to the house from River. The lighting is adequate throughout the house. Most of the lighting is controlled via remote. We will look into this and determine if wattage needs to be changed, with the lamps in the bedroom, and other various areas. We are always happy to answer any questions about the house, before, during and after your stay. Someone is on call to help our guests "figure out" unfamiliar items, just give us a call next time. You may not get an immediate answer about some of the minor things, such as TV, internet and DVD players, but for the most part we are there to help you out.

It was a great place to rest. A long drive from anything you might want to do. It would be amazing if you had access to a boat to explore the river.

Owner's Response: Thank you for coming to stay at River Overlook. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay. It is one of the prettiest locations that we have. It is a long drive to the house from town but it is well worth it. The distance and the drive time are clearly explained in the description There are marinas that rent boats in our area. That could be an option for you the next time you are in Chattanooga. We hope that you will come back and visit again soon!

Reviewer Comments:

The house was very nice and very clean. We were disappointed in the porches cause of so many spider webs. There are a few boards that need replacing on the porch that could be dangerous. The steps to the dock is a CHORE. My husband would not let me go down. The view is nice, but if there were some trees cut down it would be exceptional! Our main issue was the spider webs. They were even on the big window in the living room on the outside it was not lovely looking out that window. I would go back if these issues were taken care of. If elderly ones are looking to stay here don't think you are going to be able to go to the dock. Too far.

Owner's Response: We are glad you found the house nice and clean inside and enjoyed the stay inside, our housekeeping team works hard and takes great pride in that! We appreciate you bringing the two slightly rotten boards on the bottom deck to our further attention. Maintenance has been watching them, but something smaller than 1' square in a 400 square foot deck is not dangerous for certain, but are sorry you were concerned. As for the spider webs, even routine cleaning outside a house in the woods on the river is not always successful with spiders making webs constantly. We will certainly be more aware and diligent about removing the webs between every guest. As for the steps to the dock, our very specific description outlines not only the number of steps, but also the elevation change; "DOWN ON THE RIVER If you decide to go down to the river, it is a little over 200 steps (wooden, concrete and large field stones) to get there. Once you get there you will find a huge dock, complete with seating all the way around the upper level and a fire pit right next to the river. The hike back up can to house can be considered strenuous with over 200 steps and a 125 foot climb." Again, we are glad you stayed and liked our services and the cleanliness of the home (why a 1 for that we are not sure), but why you would not recommend this house, after you said you would stay again if the webs were removed (which they were at the conclusion of your stay), is confusing.

Owner's Response: Thank you for staying at River OverLook. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay. They always say that the road less traveled leads to the most amazing view! The house is in one of the prettiest locations on the TN River and The house is very much worth the drive! Yes it is a lengthy drive- down a narrow- some times one lane road, it is quite curvy with low visibility in spots, the road is not meant to be driven quickly, take into consideration the level of gas in the tank(No gas stations along Suck Creek Road) and occasionally you may have to move a random donkey or goat out of the way. It is all part of the experience in the area as we said in the driving instructions that we provided. Its well worth the Drive! We do hope that you will come back and stay with us again soon
