About Jonathan H.
We are Jon and Ellie and we welcome you to be our guests at The James Gott Homestead. I was born and raised on the North Shore while Ellie was raised in coastal Maine. We have lived and traveled throughout the United States but we have always been drawn back to the beautiful town of Rockport MA.
Jonathan H. purchased this Barn in 2015
Why Jonathan H. chose Rockport
After spending almost two years searching for the right property we were shown the James Gott Homestead in the dead of winter and we fell in love. Drawing on the experiences we had renting vacation homes for our family over the years we tried to design the "best " summer vacation rental. We have renovated two of the four units into beautiful, luxury comfortable family vacation rentals. Two different buildings each with its own unique charm and character but each very Rockport.
What makes this Barn unique
This is a very unique home. We are located right downtown on the 4th of July parade route yet, we have a beautiful flower filled back yard that is a very peaceful and tranquil oasis. This unit has two off street parking spaces. We have two beautiful sandy beaches less than a half mile stroll from your back door, we provide a cart for beach chairs coolers and other beach necessities. There is also a parking pass for Long Beach and Cape Hedges Beach.

A beautiful home in a charming setting
This was the second time that we stayed at the James Gott Carriage House. Everything was just as perfect as our first stay last summer. Jonathan and Ellie have thought of everything that could possibly be needed, great wi-fi, extra blankets, etc, and a beach pass which is not always part of a vacation rental, but is great to have when you have teen-agers looking for surf.
The location is just what we needed also. We could go to the beach and then walk down to Bearskin Neck and have an ice cream cone and a little shopping after supper.
The fire pit set-up was also a great addition this year and the garden was beautiful.
I hope to be back for a third vacation next year. We were sorry to have to leave!
Great property, convenient location, quintessential New England town
A well maintained property that ideally suited our two couples and visiting guests. Great common space for group gatherings both inside and outside. Really enjoyed the fire table and the BBQ for grilling the fresh fish from Roy Moore’s. All the amenities one would expect from a well stocked house with the only disappointment being no proper coffee pot. Pardon our Seattle bias, but we brought our own ground coffee in hopes of brewing fresh coffee each morning but found only a Keureg machine. Problem was solved by purchasing a pour over set up from one of the local purveyors which we left behind for future renters to enjoy. Highly recommend this property. Host was very responsive and everything promised was delivered.
A perfect place for a bi-coastal family vacation!
CO relatives came to visit Boston and then a few days in a little "sea town." Unfortunately, the first night we wanted to stay was booked, but Jonathan's (and Ellie's) place was so nice and he was so wonderful to deal with, that we booked a night in Gloucester, then moved into this house for the next 3 nights. When visiting Gloucester, PLEASE go on a whale watch. The company we chose, 7 Seas was amazing. They honored our groupon pricing and were great, start to finish. My land-locked family from CO could not wait for Lobster every day (twice a day some days....) on the dock, Roy Moore's, a suggestion from Jonathan. Another suggestion was the fresh morning strudel at Helmet's, cheese and apple. Do not miss either one of these. Both places were a nice easy walk into town, several times a day. At night, several choices of ice cream, too. We could not wish for more in this home. The inside was so clean, well-stocked, decorated and comfortable. I cannot think of anything I would add. We ate in, every night. Jonathan and Ellie left so many things we used, beach towels, a portable cooler, beach chairs and flashlights. Sitting outside at the table under the trellis was delightful. The lilac bushes were simply amazing and we discovered the fragrant herbs growing right beside the patio out front! We brought our S'more makings for the fire pit and cooked some morning bacon on the grill. Extra blankets, pillows and towels were so nice. The wi-fi acted up for a few hours upon arrival but Jonathan was quick to respond and re-set. (college age cousins needed access to some on-line classes). Bearskin lake was our favorite hang-out and Jonathan suggested checking the bulletin board in town for fishing guidance as all the charters were already booked, and my nephew caught several large fish! Made his trip! It rained the day we departed which was perfect. I cannot wait to go back again, perhaps during the Fall and winter. Do not hesitate to book this place. You will not be disappointed. East meets West family reunion time in a small coastal town, accomplished! Thank you Jonathan and Ellie!
Great place, close to town!
We had a wonderful four day stay at this beautiful carriage house. Everything you could need, comfortable and close to downtown. Hope to return again.
Stay here!!! You’ll be glad you did.

Location is great and yard Is lovely. It was the perfect place to celebrate our son’s graduation with extended family. Can’t imagine finding a home more lovely or more convenient to the charm of Rockport. Would definitely stay here again.
The absolute best VRBO property we have stayed with. We would do it all over again!
Our VRBO stay was one of the best experiences! The property owners have carefully thought of every little detail making our stay wonderful and time well spent.
The home’s location to Bearskin Neck, our favorite little shopping area, was perfect as well as our usual breakfast location - it was only 300ft away! We would highly recommend this property!
