About Lucia Cuzzolin
We are a young couple in our sixties and as almost 99% of Italians we had a dream: a farmhouse in Tuscany! We lived in Milan and had a satisfactory working life but we felt unsuited to the pace of such a busy town. It has been a real lucky break to find Montemiliano 10 year ago. It was a ruined and uninhabited hamlet on the hills near Monterchi, with 10 h of uncultivated land; nevertheless when we first saw the ouline of its roofs we immediately fell in love with it! We worked hardly to restore to their former glory the complex and 7 years ago we moved and completely changed our lifestyle. We had to learn almost everything but are now very proud of the results of our efforts and glad to share them with our friends and guests (there isn't really a big difference among these categories).
Lucia Cuzzolin purchased this Farmhouse in 2004
Why Lucia Cuzzolin chose Monterchi
We think Monterchi is not one of 'The Most Beautiful Villages in Tuscany' (see Thames & Hudson's), it is really “The Navel of the world”! Set in the heart of Renaissance Italy, it is brilliantly placed for exploring both Tuscany and Umbria and for a full immersion into the best of Italian culture. There is always somewhere new to visit and to discover by car, foot, and even... by running! Monterchi has a great feel of the real Italy, and the local villagers go out of their way to make you welcome. For art lovers, it is home to the famous 'Madonna del Parto' by Piero della Francesca. The grander cities of Florence, Siena, Arezzo, Perugia and Assisi are less than 1 1/2 hour drive and the airports of Rome, Pisa, Forlì, Florence, Perugia and Rimini are easily accessible.
What makes this Farmhouse unique
Montemiliano is just 1.5 km from Monterchi and with an easy walk you can reach good restaurants, bars and grocery stores. For the more athletic, there are many sports you can practise nearby: horse riding, tennis courts, golf course. Despite the closeness to the village the location is really stunning and you can relax in peace and privacy with no fear to be disturbed. Our true flagships are the position, set on the top of the hill with a 360° view on Tiber Valley, and the panoramic swimming pool. We are not excellent photographers but it is quite impossible to convey such a perfect landscape and the intense emotion it arouses. Our panoramic swimming pool could be a real problem for you: it will be difficult to leave the clear water to perform the hard work of turist.

Wonderful and relaxing holiday
We had a very warm welcome at the magnificent Montemiliano site. The owners were very kind and gave great suggestions for visiting nice places in the surrounding of Tuscany and Umbria. We were very enthusiastic about our cottage Rimessa and also about the nice swimming pool with great views over the Tuscan hills. The nice little village Monterchi was nearby and worth visiting. We can highly recommend a peaceful stay at Agriturismo Montemiliano.
Mixed feelilngs in Montemiliano.
We stayed in Montemiliano for a week in June-July 2010 with 10 friends (age around 30 years). The surroundings were beautiful and the accommodation was pleasant. Everything was clean and well taken care of.
We were surprised though to find out that the owners lived in one of the buildings. More over we found it strange that the owners would come in to the rooms while we were away and adjust the fridge temperature. They also used the outside shower near the swimming pool daily. During the last night and morning of our stay they started to clean the outside areas and the big kitchen even though our rental contract was valid until 10 am. We didn't use the big pizza oven because it was located three feet from the owner’s front door.
We do not recommend the place for people who value their privacy and do not want to be disturbed.
Thank you for your high rating: I suppose that finally the upsides have been more than the downsides.
When we decided to open our farmhouse to other guests we tried to put ourselves in their shoes and everything is done in their only interest. This’ why when we had electrical problems we checked the rooms and discovered that they were partially due to the high level of the fridge (even if we asked you to keep the temperature to a low but optimal working level).
Yes, as stated in our website, we live in Montemiliano and are happy to share our farmhouse with other people with a big respect for their privacy. It is usual in Italy that owners live in the Agriturismo and Farmhouse is, first of all, the Farmer’s house.
As a matter of fact you had the exclusive use of the swimming pool and outside areas and we just used the outside shower which is closed to our fruit and vegetable garden where we daily worked.
Even if we are temperamentally open to friendly contacts with our guests we have respected your privacy and the only contacts we had (shower excluded) where when we cleaned the pool, did your restaurant reservations, helped you with the delivery of your lost baggage or to light the fire for barbeque. If you simply had asked us we had lit the pizza oven, which cannot be operated without our supervision (fire is a big problem in this season and oven need practice): most of our guests have savoured our free home made pizza.
When most of your group leaved we started to clean after having asked the permission to the remaining people, and, on the contrary, we hope you have appreciated the use of our facilities one day before the weekly rental started.
And what to say about your “middle size” dog: left alone into the apartment, sleeping in our sheets and eating in our dishes. We had to deeply clean and disinfect everything in respect of next guests and after this experience are seriously considering not to accept animals anymore.
We are a couple in our mid thirties and had a lovely stay at montemiliano.
The accomodotion was well presented and maintained to a very good standard. The facilities were good, especially the swimming pool which had wonderful panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.
The owners were friendly and helpful and provided excellent advice on local restaurants and places to visit. The local village is a 20 minute walk and had all the basic facilities - supermarket, bars and restaurants.
There is plenty to see and do within an hour or so from the accomodation although ideally you need a car. We would highly recommend montemiliano to either young families or couples and hope to return soon.
Une super adresse / An excellent stay
We stayed in Montemilano one week at the beginning of August 2009. We were 20 (several families), and the place was ideal for our confortable stay and our discovering of the inside Toscany. The domaine is very charming, the appartments are quiet, large and very clean. Lucia and Grazziano, the owners, know always what to do to make your stay very pleased. And they speak a better french than our italian...
Estonishing views, big pool, babyfoot, ping pong, hammock, and lots of shaded spaces outside. This is the place to spend vacation with family, and to discover Tuscany and Ombria by car, foot, and even... by running!
A real gem !!
While in Tuscany in 2008, we toured numerous Agriturismo's in order to find a suitable location for our 2009 family holiday, and it was during this tour that we found MonteMiliano. With its impeccable accommodation, great facilities (listed) and stunning views overlooking the beautiful walled village of Monterchi less than a mile away, not only did we reserve it there and then, we also took a photograph of the view from where we would be having our breakfast each morning and put it on our kitchen wall as a reminder of what was to come !!
Our 2009 family holiday is now behind us, and we were delighted with every aspect of both our holiday and (especially) Montemiliano; Lucia really went the extra mile to ensure that we were made to feel at home and that we were aware of all of the events that were on in the region (inc The Palio, local festivals etc). Montemiliano is everything (& more) that you will want from a Tuscan holiday, in a corner of Tuscany that is not as expensive as the other areas that we have visited - a real gem !!
Ps - That photo is still on the wall ahead of our return in 2010.
We thank you very much for your kind comments! We hope you can take a new photo of Montemiliano soon! It will be a real pleasure to see your nice family again.
Fantastisch - Live like an emperor in Italy
Holiday house MonteMiliano in Monterchi was for us entirely tip top in order, and what a devotion of the owners to make sure that everything was okay for the customers.
Also it was easily that we could use the knowledge of languages of Lucia and it was pleasant that we have got so much good travel- and sightseeing tips.
Once again many thanks Lucia and Graciano for the very nice week which we have had, and we still think regular of the nice pizza’s.
Greetings from Erik and Nelly
