We do not have a microwave for a reason...they are extremely toxic to the body and we do not want that energy in our home. We also do not have a dish washer. We recommend that you bring your own drinking water. Ours is safe to drink, but is very hard well water. Ok to drink on a short term basis. We are finicky about ANY tap water, so that is why we recommend bringing your own. Please bring your own shampoo, conditioner & other toiletries.

A Place for Peace and Solitude

  • 5 of 5

We were delighted with the house, large rooms, well equipped, and walls so thick you could not hear a thing to disturb your sleep. Rita and Jim are wonderful hosts. I do not think you could find better. The property is very large with all sorts of vegetation including Saguaros and wildlife to view from the large living room window or the patio. We had a great time. Although remote, there is a large grocery and other shops about 14 miles away in Maricopa. And for a long or short day out there are plenty of national and state parks, forests, wilderness, ruins and monuments for hiking and other adventures. Phoenix is not so far away and has some fine art galleries and museums. This is a great place to stay for a wonderful holiday.

Perfect relaxing getaway!

  • 5 of 5

I cannot say enough good things about this rental! The location is a bit out of Phoenix, but that was perfect for us since we wanted a quiet vacation. The house is plenty big and very clean. I personally enjoyed sitting out on the patio and watching the quails, doves, and the roadrunner that would come running through the yard! The owners are incredibly nice and very accommodating. They were such a pleasure to talk to. If we ever plan to vacation in the Phoenix area again, we will for sure stay here again. Highly recommend!!!

Unique Eco-Friendly Rural Home

  • 5 of 5

Our group had a wonderful stay at this house! Rita and Jim have made a very comfortable, well set up home in a rural setting. Rita was a great host - both in welcoming us to the property and making sure that we had all we needed to make our stay relaxing.

Sunshine, nature and lots of space

  • 5 of 5

This 'eco-home' in the desert is as described and the pictures give a good sense of this lovely straw-bale home. Everything was in tip-top shape and all requests promptly answered. We enjoyed learning how the hosts conserved water and cared for their desert land. We enjoyed many hours on the large patio listening to and watching the birds especially the many curved-billed thrashers who sing a fine song, 2 kinds of doves, verdin, blue-grey-gnatcatchers and the occasional phainopepla, hawks and cactus wren. We also enjoyed playing 'spot the rabbit' as it scurried about. Highlights were daytrips to the Sonoran Desert Museum in Tucson , Boyce Thompson Arboretum near Superior and Copper Sky recreation park in Maricopa.

Owner's Response: It was our pleasure being your hosts. We're happy you enjoyed your stay and watching the goings-on around our desert oasis. That's a nice list of birds you spotted...verdin...that one we'll need to look up. Don't forget all the quail. Thank you for the great review! :-)

We enjoyed our stay in the desert.

  • 5 of 5

This home is spacious and comfortable and we loved the patio! So peaceful to look out at Flat Top Mountain at sunset. It was fun to be out-of-the-way. We happened upon adventures that we wouldn't have found otherwise. For example, on our desert hike to Flat Top Mountain we found petroglyphs on a small hillock. Undisturbed petroglyphs! How cool was that! Our host was super friendly and helpful and even brought over a hula hoop to share when she found out I could hoop! A small thing to note. One of our party had the front bedroom and was bothered by the nearby dog kennel but her partner in the same room was not bothered. It would depend upon your sensitivity to barking. For my husband and I it was not a issue. I would highly recommend this get-a-way in the desert.
