The spectacular view at the Caribbean see, the space in and around the house, the privacy and the coolness of the pool are nice ingredients of a successful holiday. Our villa is a real family house. With 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms, a 100 m2 terrace, a big living- and dining room and a nice pool, it provides a lot of space (for 8 persons). It is a detached villa on 1000 m2 of land. About Monique and Jeroen Haverkate

We had several holidays on this beautiful island. In 2013 we had the opportunity to buy this house. In almost 2 years we made our 'Dutch Dream'.

Monique and Jeroen Haverkate purchased this villa in 2015

Why Monique and Jeroen Haverkate chose Curaçao

Originally it is a real nice family house, with lots of space and privacy. In August 2015 we have started with the rental of the villa. We hope a lot of people will enjoy this nice place to be !

What makes this villa unique

The resort and beach of Cas Abao are the most beautiful places of the island. Our home is very spacious, has a lot of room inside / a huge terrace, living room, dining room, kitchen, 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms, a laundry room, garage and a nice pool. But we love the view at the caribbean see and the privacy (no neighbors) of the villa.

Property Review

Home Away #4053210

Rating: 5/5

We, two couples, stayed at this villa for 10 days in late February, 2018.

The check-in procedure was very easy. Bart, from the property management company, met us near the airport

and we followed him to the property. The trip was about 20 minutes, even in our high-mileage, compact rental

car. Bart was very charming and helpful—he took a house key, which was left on the car’s keychain, back to

the car rental company in town for us.

This was our second trip to Curacao, and the first for our friends. On our first trip we stayed near the Jan Thiel

area close to Willemstad, and also in Cas Abao. Cas Abao has far less traffic than in town so is much easier to

get around—that’s why we returned to Cas Abao.

The villa is spacious, clean and modern. Add in great sea views from the huge balcony and the place is perfect.

The pool, though small, is very refreshing after a day out.

We enjoyed floating and trying to identify the many different birds that were flying by.

The beds were very comfortable with nice linens. The kitchen was well-equipped. BBQ utensils were missing,

but new ones were promptly delivered next day when we asked.

They do charge for water and electric “overuse”. We used the air conditioning nightly in the bedrooms and the

dishwasher every second day. We also used the washer and dryer a couple of times. We had about three

dinners and eight breakfasts in. Our friends play Latino music, seemingly non-stop, and they love showering.

Despite all this, we paid only €6.4 (Euros) a night (€64 in total for 10 nights, or $10/day) for our power and

water use. (We note the earlier comments about the neighbors above; however, Latino music seems to cover up

any such noise.)

We like the beaches in the area very much. Some of them do charge for entrance and chair use, but they are

free the further north (west) you go. We spent five days in Aruba before coming to Curacao. To rent four

chairs and an umbrella on Eagle Beach costed us $80. In Curacao we went to Karakter in the nearby Coral

Estates a couple of times. The resort has a fine little beach and infinity pool with very good food and services.

If you have lunch there, the chairs and umbrellas are free. Some other excellent restaurants are also in the area,

and further to the north.

Curacao is a fabulous island and this villa is a great, calm place from which to explore it.

A scenic, wonderful villa in a great location.

The villa is spacious, clean and modern. Add in great sea views from the huge balcony and the place is perfect. We downloaded a “ship finder” app, so we enjoyed reading about the ships we saw sailing by. Cruise ships are spectacular when you see them passing by at night. The pool, though small, is very refreshing after a day out. We enjoyed floating and trying to identify the many different birds that were flying by.

Great view BUT...

  • 2 of 5

Read the entire VRBO listing carefully. These comments are not about the owners - they are about the property. Stayed in Feb 2018:

House: Big house. Nice view is a plus. Before you rent: Convert $ to EU. in our case (USD to EU) 1.00 to 1.23 at the time. Convert all electric and water rates of this VRBO carefully PRIOR to renting.

Gated community until the neighbors above the property quarrel to the point law enforcement should be called. Instructions for emergency's should be discuss and clearly presented to renters prior. If you call emergency services, you will have to let them in the gate.

Close to beach: Yes (BUT), 10 EU dollars to get in and food and beer over priced not only at the beach but whole island. That cost is out of the control of the property owners, but don't use the beach as a sales pitch to rent your property. Property is definitely 25-35 minutes away from everything - we found that to be more of a hindering issue . Grocery stores nearby, yes but the "Good" grocery stores are a solid 35 min from the property. Property location great for hikers.

Ants and bugs in Kitchen: Everyday bugs in the kitchen. We realize there are bugs on islands, we've been to multiple islands. Spiders in the basement areas. We had to keep everything in Fridge

Amenities: While we realize we are not staying at a hotel, we had to purchase toilet paper, paper towels, wash cloths and other items to complete the stay. There was one roll provided for each bathroom.

Beds: All twin beds, move around and uncomfortable. Pillows were good.

Rear Driveway: Don't park on it - when it rains you car can slide rewards while backing. Park on the road and walk.

"Slight" over water usage: To put this into context: We originally scheduled 5 to go, 2 had to back out. Which left 3 in the house taking minimal showers and we ate out nearly every night thus no sink or dishwasher usage. Somehow we managed to use near 100.00 USD worth of water? Our fault, we shall do a better job of converting metric. Take a picture of the water meter upon arrival/departure and compare against the water rate posted in the original was the other lesson. When the pool cleaner comes, she drains the pool and you pay for the water. Big Negative

We only ran AC at night in two BR's, main living AC you are told not to use?? Why not tell renter that up front?

We won't return to Curacao and do not recommend this VRBO.

Owner's Response: It is a pity that you judge the house so negatively (it hurts us a lot) / and with that also the whole of Curacao ... ..! It is a spacious house, located on a mountain, with a truly fantastic view, lots of peace and privacy, and partly because of that a bit removed from the hectic of Willemstad (with the big shops). Eastwards (towards Willemstad) there are a number of paid beaches (including the beach of Cas Abao), but in western direction all beaches are accessible free of charge / so you always have a choice between paid or free. The fact that you can sometimes have mosquitoes or ants in tropical countries seems insurmountable, but great to live with. And to call the beds 'uncomfortable', while all our guests experience it as 'very comfortable' (read the review by Gary H. / Atlanta), apparently has to do with a personal preference. Villa Dutch Dream is a spacious house, equipped with all comforts (washing machine, dryer, kitchen equipment, BBQ, etc.). Any comparison with a hotel is therefore flawed. At the beginning of the stay the manager explains that the drinking water (must be made from sea water) and electricity is expensive on the island. For that reason, the air conditioning of the (very) large living room is also switched off (to prevent a high power bill). All bedrooms are of course equipped with air conditioning. (by the way; the USD 100 applies to the consumption of water and electricity.) We have received more than 50 people over the past 2 years via HA, who have stayed with great pleasure in our home. Unfortunately, only 2 families have so far taken the trouble to write a review. It is therefore very unfortunate that your review creates a wrong image.

Great stay!

The house was as advertised. We had a little trouble with the ac but it was quickly addressed. The only thing we missed was a microwave. We cooked in almost every night and had enough cookware with a little creativity. The view makes the house.

Impressive location and well kept property

  • 5 of 5

A group of 5 of us had the pleasure of staying at this spacious villa for 5 nights. Several people in our party were arriving at different times and different airlines. Charlotte the representative of the management company used by the owners was very helpful in making the check in and check out go extremely smooth. Her group was always available for any needs we may have. The house is located on the best part of the island, you have an amazing beach at the property and you have easy driving distances to the other wonderful beaches on the west end and the Willemstad area to the east. The beds are very comfortable, the pool area has great views along with the large deck. There is always a nice breeze that allows you to open the large sliding glass doors to the main living area during the day. I would recommend this property to any group and I will definitely rent again on my next visit to Curacao.
