The house is walking distance to the Columbia and Washougal river. You can walk to a grocery store, convenient stores, restaurants, brew pubs and bars. We are 15 minutes to the PDX Airport and 30 minutes into Downtown Portland. The property is on a large city lot with a patio, fire pit, big kitchen, porch, adult tree house and tiny house. Washougal is much smaller and low key than Portland. We have more elbow room out here you might say.
Easiest way to the house is by car. You can take a cab or Uber. If you would like to use public transportation, you can take the Max Train from the airport to the Parkrose transit center, and then to the Vancouver Transit center off of 164th. From there you can take another bus into Washougal. The bus drops off on E street, which is an easy 1/2 minute walk to the house. Plan for at least an hour to get from the airport using mass transit and the bus runs until about 7:30 pm.
Guests will have private access to the entire 4 bedroom, 2 bath home, yard, and property, along with large stocked kitchen, dining nook, TV area, sauna, soaking tub, pellet stove, tree swing, private washer and dryer and plenty of places for lounging, inside and out. For an additional fee, renters may use the tree house and tiny house on the property.
I moved to The Columbia River Gorge in 1992 because I loved to windsurf. I've now lived in the Great Northwest for 23 years and absolutely adore it. I grew up in Colorado. I enjoy building and fixing things, and also spend a lot of time in the outdoors, camping, traveling and adventuring.
Kenny Bavoso purchased this house in 2005
This is one of the oldest homes in Washougal, built in 1910. It's located at the mouth of the Columbia River Gorge. You can walk to the Washougal and Columbia Rivers. There are lots of hiking and biking trails, and nearby outdoor resources of all kinds.
Hiking trails, Washougal river, mountain biking, breweries, in The Columbia Gorge but relatively close to Portland, more economical then staying in Portland, and more elbow room to park your car and access neighboring cities.
We stayed at this home for the Washougal Nationals Motocross races weekend. We were 4 adults and one teenager. The house is clean, nothing fancy. It really could use a coat of paint, but we didn't care much about that. It had everything we needed. Like other reviewers... yes, the showers are a bit of a challenge. The one upstairs is for short people :) and the one downstairs has great water pressure, but makes a mess. Water ends up all over the floor and on the walls, so there is a bit of clean up after showering to sop up the excess water. We had ant activity in the downstairs bathroom upon arrival, and then they migrated to the kitchen once we unloaded our groceries. We kept them mostly under control by putting all food in the fridge and coolers. Side note: ants LOOOVE donuts, but do not care at all for Flaming Hot Cheetos :)
Overall, it's a great house in a quiet downtown Washougal neighborhood. We spent a lot of time sipping beers on the cool covered front porch, and took a walk to the river. My brothers loved the little hot tub too. It was much better than getting a bunch of separate hotel rooms, and saved us a bit of money by having us all under one roof and able to cook meals. I had to contact the owner only a couple times for some questions, and he was VERY quick to respond and totally friendly. Thanks for letting us stay Kenny!
We only had one night here and it was a great experience! We were traveling with our doggies and the fenced yard was perfect for them and our peace of mind. We didn't rent the cabin, tree house, nor sauna but it was great to peek in there to see what could have been. A classic older house with the great nuances and classic details. It was great to meet Kenny in-person and he made us feel very welcome and comfortable. I would definitely stay there again.
Between the house, tiny house, and tree house, we had 14 people stay for the weekend, and 5 others visit, and it never felt crowded! The house is clean, the kitchen is larger than we expected (we were doing food prep for a large party), and the owner Kenny is really nice and accommodating. We saw a few ants, but they never got into our food. The upstairs shower is a kick! It reminds me of the scene in "Elf"! It looks tiny, but even my 6'4" brother made it work. We will stay there again if the family gets together in the area!
The owner allowed us to be flexible on the amount of people we had coming. The tiny house and tree house had electricity and heat so we ended up using both. I love older homes and this one was fun to explore. We would come here again. The rooms and bathrooms were kept clean.
Four of my friends and I spent an enjoyable week at this house while playing in a tournament in downtown Vancouver (about 20 minute drive). Owner was very helpful and friendly and responded to our additional requested very promptly. The kitchen was well stocked. Bedrooms and living areas were comfortable. Upstairs bath/shower were a little challenge the first time, but we all managed and it just added to the fun of staying there. The walk to the Columbia river path was a great exercise every morning with friends. I will consider this property when we return next year.
Nice older home in a quiet neighborhood. Walking distance to the downtown of Washougal. Our group was working on scanning and organizing family genealogy. For that purpose we felt the home needed more light in breakfast nook and living room. Owner is available if questions or problems with house arise. Owner was building a sauna outside during our stay. Bathroom showers are not designed for people with mobile disabilities. Other then that we enjoyed our stay and touring the town of Washougal, the Pendleton Woolen Mills and the walking trail along the river..
