Our new home reminds me of my youth and my years milking cows, working on the farm, and doing all the fun and funny things we did as kids. The bucking horse, the skinny dipping in the river, the wild rides on the cows, the pet animals, the county fair show of our animals, the accidents and falls, the broken bones, the bumps and bruises all come back to me when I come home. I love it here. I remember when I left home to work in California after graduation from college. I cried and vowed that I would one day come back here to live. With the passsage of the years, we inherited the farm and eventually decided to sell the land. With the strong ties of family nearby, and the love of this beautiful mountain valley, we decided to return and build a home.
Jeanne Muhlestein purchased this house in 2007
I am a country boy who grew up on a dairy farm along the Provo River which ran through our farm. When we sold the farm land we kept the old farm house and an acre of land for our yard. Our old family home sat on the exact spot where we built this new home seven years ago. While building our new home, my wife and I wanted to preserve in the new home the memories of my youth which I hold so dear. So we decided to build a new much larger home that looked like our old home. The original house had a large wrap around porch, and a balcony outside one of the upper rooms. We retained this same look in the new home. As you enter the front door into the parlor, you see two large oil paintings of my parents, George and Ella Muhlestein, who purchased the farm in 1950. You will also see an aerial photo of the farm and a photo of the original house. This room contained sentimental artifacts and family pictures which we have removed for safe storage. Our children and grandchildren sit in this room and learn about their ancestors and heritage.
My wife and I have 3 lovely daughters and 11 grand children, and we wanted this new home to have all the luxuries we could dream of. So we built an 8000 ft home with a bedroom suite for each family so each could have peace and privacy. We built a large spacious great room where our whole family could gather easily. We built a large gourmet kitched with a walk in pantry,
a food preparation counter, a dishwasher, and a large counter around which we could gather. We found a large dining room table which can seat a large group. We built in a sound system so we could have music everywhere. The grandchildren play downstairs and we don't even hear them.
We bought a hot tub so we could relax in the hot water. What an experience when it is zero degrees outside and one hundred degrees in the water. That is really stimulating. Our yard is beautiful with a large grassy area which can accommodate large gatherings, games, reunions, events and lots of space to run and play. (My nephew held his wedding reception in the back yard. Some beautiful pictures are included in this presentation.)
The large driveways, patios and walks provide space for parking multiple vehicles, and ample area for the children to ride bikes and toys. The nearby streets are quiet with few cars.
As our family has grown, graduated from college and set out to make their way in the world, it has been difficult to get us together, but we did just that for Grandpa Doug's 85th birthday. We just returned home from a great week-end at this wonderful home -- exhausted from staying up so late lounging on soft leather sofas by a blazing fireplace enjoying each other's company, soaking in the hot tub, playing air hockey and a dozen other highly competitive games, not to mention eating until we couldn't hold another bite, but totally happy. The experience couldn't have been better. The house is amazing, the view is breathtaking, the beds high and oh so comfy, the kitchen is a dream and well supplied with two large ovens, an outlandishly large table, a walk-in pantry, large serving bowls and trays, not to mention spices and all those little things you forget to bring (including several aprons that invite group participation). Our family came from Nebraska, Washington, California, Colorado, Utah and Arizona -- and their interests and preferences are as wide spread as their abodes. We served 33 people at three sit-down meals, slept 22 in style and everyone loved the experience. We highly recommend this property and hope to get together there again when Grandpa Doug turns 90.
Me and my Family all got together at this home for Thanksgiving and had a amazing time. The home is very beautiful, warm, and when you walk through the front door you feel like you are at home! It sleeps a lot of people in beds, and let me say that again because it is true! It sleeps lots of people in beds, and there is tons of socializing space. The yard is very well done, and when we went it was still warm outside. This home has some of the BEST views of the valley that I have seen, and sits just above a river. We loved the kitchen, and all of the counter space that we were able to put to use, and the kids LOVED the playhouse in the basement! It was very clean when we got there, and we totally understand why the cleaning deposit is where it is at, because there is so much house to clean. The beds were AMAZING, super comfortable, and all of the bedrooms are very quiet so it was good with younger kids. We really enjoyed the Heber Valley, but the house is so amazing that we just ended up staying there most of the time because there was no reason worth leaving. I would definitely recommend this house to anyone who is considering renting in the area, and I know that my family will be coming back many times in the future!
