About Janet Woolwine

Ever the caretaker...former teacher, travel-agent, B&B owner, happy elder to 2 grown children, 3 cats and an adorable grandson. Texas-raised but Abingdon-infatuated since 1977, I've left weaving, spinning and my country life to focus on redevelopment of this charming neighborhood. My first project was A Likely Yarn (just out the back door) in 2009 and there will soon be another property (built 1859) just down the street ready for retail and residence.

Janet Woolwine purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Janet Woolwine chose Blue Ridge Highlands

As to why this particular area of the town, Park St. and its environs are the oldest part of town, once the site of Black's Fort, a pre-Revolutionary outpost.

Mileage-wise, with several major cities anywhere from 2 to 5 hours away, Abingdon is close to everywhere and in the middle of nowhere at the same time. Brilliant, creative people in every field are drawn to the privacy and beauty of the area, with the chance to be as public or as private as they wish Diversity is important and we not only tolerate the eccentrics who give the town its character, we encourage them!! It makes for a lovely mix of folks who've come here from all over the world; the endless opportunities for recreation, amusement and small-town conviviality make it the perfect place to visit, the perfect place to live.

Brand new construction (2012) with all the comforts and conveniences of home - but none of the responsibilities. Open floor plan and no steps AT ALL from street to screened back porch.

Solar-assisted electrical, tankless water heater, dedicated recycling bins.

What makes this cottage unique

Accessibility to history...from several wars back to pre-historic activity in nearby Saltville ..nature, colleges, recreation, arts, theatre, music and great people watching. There's at least one story around every corner..and usually someone happy to tell it to you!

Fabulous!

Couldn"t ask for a cleaner and well-stocked vacation home. Location was excellent! This was our second stay here and it was as good as the first. We will be returning.

5 stars for sure!

Overall great experience.

One suggestion might be to check dishwasher cycle. It ran for way too long for the setting we had it on.

3 Cs - Clean, Comfortable, Convenient

  • 5 of 5

Janet met us when we arrived and after showing us around her lovely guest house, she gave us lots of tips for enjoying our weekend in Abingdon. There are 2 identical queen bedrooms with private baths, very comfortable; a modern kitchen, which is open to a dining area and living room; a screened porch off the kitchen and a front porch also. The house is just a block off Main Street and an easy walk to shops and restaurants. The house was recently built so has all the modern conveniences. I highly recommend staying here if you are heading to Abingdon to bike or hike the Virginia Creeper, go to the Barter Theatre, or enjoy one of the great restaurants the town has to offer.

Beautiful cottage, convenient location

  • 5 of 5

This is a perfect accommodation for two couples. Two large bedrooms, each with a private bath, plus an additional powder room in the hall. The kitchen was modern and well supplied. Everything was very clean and nicely decorated. Enjoyed the screened-in back porch. The driveway fits two cars for off-street parking. Location is a couple blocks from the main street; easy walk to restaurants and the Barter Theatre (saw a show there- very professional and entertaining, would highly recommend). We also enjoyed biking on the Virginia Creeper Trail, the entrance of which is only a block or so away.

Owner's Response: There are so many points our guests refer to as "best" but a consistent one is the location for Park Street Guest House. I'm so glad you enjoyed the House itself with its resident bunnies and birds. Thanks very much for pointing up highlights in the vicinity and we'll hope to see you again on another trip to Abingdon.
