About Ellie Buckingham

Hi My favourite place to be is Barbados but returning to London is always fun. I also have an apartment in Cagnes in the south of France.

Ellie Buckingham purchased this bungalow in 2008

Why Ellie Buckingham chose St. James

I bought the property because it was the nearest property to the pool and the Beach and Zaccios the beach restaurant that I could find!

What makes this bungalow unique

One of the best things for me about the bungalow is that is on the flat and a pleasant walk to the Supermarket

Greatl 1 bed appt in beautiful part of Barbados

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this lovely 1 bed appartment. It has a full kitchen and everything you need for your stay. All details in the ad were correct. Was very close (2-5 mins walk just over the road) to several nice beaches, and the use of the beach house was a big bonus with pool and loungers next to the sea and beach. Restaurants in Hole Town were very close by (nearest 3 mins walk, furthest 10 mins walk). Very helpful owner who answered all of our questions. Would love to return again!

Perfect Location!

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a fabulous week in Barbados!! We arrived at Ellie's apartment & met Jacintha as agreed. The apartment was just as the pictures shown and better, the two bathrooms were very handy. Just a short walk from the apartment and we were either at the pool or the most beautiful white sand beach. Surrounded by good bars & restaurants, anything else was a mere $2 bus ride away we couldn't have wished for a better location.

Ellie answered all my questions via email within a day, and felt very rat ease and well informed.

While away my partner proposed on the beach and hopefully we will be returning in the not too distant future with even more memories to make!

Thank you Ellie.

Value for money self-catering property very close to the beach and pool

  • 3 of 5

Ellie's property is good value for money for two people who wish to self-cater. The kitchen is well equipped with a large fridge/freezer, oven, microwave, toaster and a two ring hotplate, with plenty of crockery, glasses, cutlery and pots and pans. There is a 3-pin extension & socket in the kitchen which takes British plugs which is a bonus (although I don't know what the voltage would be, but I am sure Ellie would be able to let you know).

There is a nice patio area with table and 4 chairs and one comfy chair where you can watch the world (including the occasional monkey & humming bird) go by while you are reading a book and sipping on a rum and Coke. Although we didn't hire a car, there is plenty of parking to the front of the property.

There are two shower rooms each with a basin and loo, and there was plenty of hot water.

The bedroom is air conditioned which is very welcome, the beds are comfy enough and there is a safe and plenty of drawers and a small wardrobe.

The property is situated very close to the pool and beach, takes about two to three minutes stroll to get to either, so easy to pop back 'home' for lunch or a coffee.

The pool area is lovely and we had no problems getting sunbeds, and the pool house have a never ending supply of iced drinking water which was very welcome. You can wander out from here onto the beach or use the boardwalk to get to the bars along the beach front.

Ellie was contactable via email while we were there and the wifi was excellent - both at the property and the pool.

We were there for ten nights and the housekeeper came halfway through to clean and change the linen, as well as an emergency clean towards the end of the holiday when the whole island suffered from a day of tropical rain and flooded - this was quite an experience as we were on a tour of the island by taxi that day which actually felt more like a boat trip!

There is a supermarket very close by for daily essentials, but be prepared to pay a lot more for food than we do in the UK.

There are bus stops very close by.

The security deposit was returned to us within a couple of weeks of returning home, and the $50 deposit required on arrival for the pool access card was returned by the Housekeeper on our day of departure.

Okay Value for the Money

  • 3 of 5

The property looks nice and is acceptable for the price; we did have an issue with the toilet leaking water and contacted the owner who was very nice. The person caring for the house was sweet as well, but we couldn't get in touch with her before we left and never got the $50 we gave her as a deposit for the club card back. Holetown seems like a great part of town to stay in, but not much to do outside of tourist season.

Owner's Response: Dear A I am sorry that you are upset as you feel you have lost your 50 BDS for the club card, this is approx 16.00 pounds which I can sent you via PayPal if you let me have your email address. Sophia had a small accident on her way to you and got there after you left she felt terrible that she did not get to say goodbye and sends you her apologies. To the best of my knowledge I have the only one bed property in SC with two shower rooms and as the leak was in the guest shower room I was hoping you wouldn't mind too much sharing the main shower room toilet for the last couple of days while Sophia organised a plumber. When visiting out of season I must suggest to guests to try the buses if they want to visit more of the island as the fare is only 1 US dollar about 66 pence. You emailed me to say you were having a lovely time so I do hope that you will one day return to Barbados and the wonderful people

A comfortable property in an excellent location.

  • 5 of 5

The apartment was just as attractive as the description and photographs suggested. It was beautifully clean, thanks to nice Sophia, and it was very prettily furnished. The location was extremely convenient and so close to the beach and the beach club (membership included in the rental). We didn't hire a car but the buses were brilliant and there was a taxi rank nearby. Although we ate out for most meals, except breakfast, we appreciated the excellent kitchen, which really provided everything that an enthusiastic cook could need. The other huge advantage of Ellie's apartment was the fact that it had two really nice modern shower rooms. Perfect for post-beach showers. Ellie was a very thoughtful owner and made lots of good recommendations for bars, beaches and restaurants. It was a perfect introduction to Barbados and the apartment really provided everything that we had hoped for. I hope that we'll be back.

A wonderfully located bijou property

  • 5 of 5

This property couldn't be more central to the restaurants, beaches, shops and bars of Holetown. It offers all that is needed for a Caribbean holiday. To top it off residents have access to the Beach House pool - which is located on the beach! It was clean and offered full facilities. A favourite spot to watch the sun set would be Zaccios with friendly staff and a good cocktail. It also sits close to the main coast road which gives the advantage of being able to use local transport to travel about. I could definitely recommend this property for a holiday.
