Growing up here and loving the beautiful rolling hills of Southern Illinois and its variety of attractions I want to share it with others who would like to getaway from their everyday lives to relax and unwind.
We are on the Shawnee Hills wine trail an incredible tour for those who like something unique to our area, this is an unbelievable experience of countryside, great wine and people. The Shawnee Hills Wine Trail features 13 wineries, 13 experiences, located 10 minutes of one another and surrounded by the Shawnee National Forest.
The 278,537 acres of natural beauty in the Shawnee National Forest is ideal for outdoor recreation. The forest landscape features rolling hills, forests, open lands, lakes, creeks and rugged bluffs. The forest has a system of 403 miles of equestrian/hiking trails, camping and picnic areas.
Or you may opt to stay in at Cedar Sunset Cabin for your private soak in the hot tub and incredible views of the sunset over the lake with a cozy evening by the fireplace.
My husband and I had a wonderful time together! We will definitely be back!
Our experience in the cabin was very relaxing and restful. We experienced some wildlife from our cabin and beautiful views. We looked forward to the hot tub every night after hiking at the accessible state parks. The convenience of the wineries makes this a great place to stay. The only bad experience we had was with the gas grill. We had brought down our prepped food to grill and unfortunately it returned home with us in our cooler. Overall the cabin was a great experience and we would return again. Next time we will bring another couple. The cabin would comfortably accommodate two couples.
This was our 2nd time and we weren't disappointed. We had Eagles and deer and cows and a fox to keep us company all weekend. The only downside was our friends couldn't join us due to the ice storm at home. The owners were excellent as always, we'll be going back.
We had a nice peaceful stay for our anniversary. The cabin was clean and nicely secluded. The hot tub was great and very private. I would recommend to others. There are wineries nearby and restaurants within a short drive. We had good meals at Giant City Lodge and the Brick House restaurant in Anna.
Nestled away privacy with lovely vistas - forest, water, cows! Close enough to enjoy all the area has to offer with wine trail, orchards, unique shops and Giant City State Park - then come back and relax on the porch with your wine or brewery finds. Interior is very nice, well-kept and comfortable. We stayed 2 nights in the cabin and cooked some local finds on the gas grill both nights. Pots/pans a little limited but doable. There is a hot tub on the back porch - but way too hot during our visit to enjoy. Everything handled by App - we were given access information and contact info for issues (of which we had none). Very quiet and relaxing spot - would stay again.
