Contemporary English basement that sleeps a family of four comfortably. All new construction finished in 2015 with private bedroom, full amenity kitchen, and luxurious bathroom. Just minutes walk to metro, restaurants, and shops.
The 700 sf 1-bedroom garden unit has front and rear private entries (door is below the front porch in the photos). There is a full kitchen with white soft-close cabinets, quartz countertops, eat-in bar, front loading washer and dryer. The kitchen has stainless appliances: a normal-sized refrigerator, flat-top stove and oven, microwave, dishwasher. It also has a water boiler, coffee pot, and all the cooking utensils you'll need. If you'd like to cook just ask and we can lend you some spices for your dish (we have most typical). The house has a whole-house water filter so don't worry about the water! There is also a 3/4 bath with a built-in bench in the large walk-in shower. At the back of the unit there is a bedroom with a small closet and queen sized bed. Insulation was installed between the basement unit and the upper floors to provide acoustical privacy from the primary residence. The living room has a table with four chairs, and a comfortable sleeper sofa with flat screen tv with Apple TV, Blu-Ray player, and sound bar. You can watch all the Netflix and Hulu you'd like. We also provide free wi-fi. The sofa also folds into a second full size bed that sleeps two. We have a large (for the city) back yard with patio and sofas, if you're interested in using this space please let us know ahead because of our dogs.
The key to enter the unit is located in a key locker. The access code will be While staying at 622, feel free to store the key locker on the magnetic mail holder. When you check out, it is important to remember to return the key locker with the key inside it for the next guest. Failing to return the entry key is a $50 fine.
Interaction with Guests
We live upstairs and have lived in the neighborhood for a number of years. We would love to help you enjoy your stay by providing tips or directions. Your unit is separate, so you'll have as much privacy as you'd like, but please don't hesitate to knock on our door. We love to hear where people are from and tell people all about our adopted home-town and neighborhood!
The space is the garden unit in our home, so we ask that our guests treat it as they would their own home. We took care to renovate the unit with our guests' comfort in mind. We promise not to have any crazy parties when you are there, and expect you'll do the same. Please also limit the amount of guests in the unit to the the pre-determined number. If you do laundry please clean the lint trap. Be sure to turn off all appliances when you are done with them. Also, no smoking or pets allowed. In general, we request that you leave the unit in the condition you found it. As a general house rule, if you are unsure of how something works or how to use it; please just ask.
Petworth is a great neighborhood, just a few metro-stops north of all the major sights. We are convenient enough for you to be at any downtown destination quickly, but still set back from the hustle and bustle so you can get a good night's sleep. The green-yellow metro lines serve Petworth, so its an easy ride to Columbia Heights, U-Street, Shaw, or Chinatown and Penn Quarter. There is also a Capital Bike Share Station next to the metro if you'd prefer to bike around. We also have some great restaurants close by, Chez Billy, Dom Ku, and the Crane and Turtle to name a few, and some cool well-known hipster bars like DC Reynolds and Looking Glass Lounge. We are a 15 minute walk from the 11th Street corridor in Columbia Heights where there are nearly a dozen local restaurants to choose from.
We are are just over one block away from a major grocery store, and about 5 min away from an all-organic grocery store. During the warmer months there is a farmer's market close by, too. You can also start your day at at Qualia, the wonderful local coffee shop that roasts its own beans, or head to Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts. Our house is a short walk from Old Soldier's Home where Lincoln's Summer Cottage is found.

Although Petworth is a vibrant, growing community that boasts a range of bars, restaurants, and coffee shops all within a 5-10 minute walk from the apartment, we understand people may have questions regarding safety in the neighborhood. When visiting DC always remember that you are in a large urban area, and to be aware when out and about. We want you to feel as comfortable in our home and neighborhood as we do, but know that comfort levels differ, so if you have more questions about safety, feel free to ask.
We are approximately 2 1/2 blocks (5 min walk) from the Georgia Ave-Petworth metro stop (green/yellow line). There are also various bus lines that pass close by (though the metro is really the most convenient). If you come with a car we will provide you with a visitor parking pass. It is generally not recommended to drive around the city much, as the traffic is relatively heavy and parking is otherwise quite difficult.
Street Parking is typically readily available on Randolph Street, except for the evenings and weekends the church located across the street is in session. Parking on the street is free with the DC Visitor Parking permit.
When you arrive, the pass is located next to the kitchen light switch on top of the mail holder as shown in the photo. When you check out, it is important to remember to return the parking pass where it belongs. Failing to return the DC visitor parking permit is a $100 fine.
For those driving, street parking is available with a residential guest permit. From the Georgia Ave/Petworth Metro stop (Yellow or Green line), walk up the hill on New Hampshire Ave two blocks until you reach Randolph Street (intersection with stop light and church on the corner). Turn right on Randolph and walk 1/2 block until you reach 622.

I love this house because of its proximity to the metro and the potential of the neighborhood while it has a huge backyard for my dog. The primary feature that attracted me to this house was the historical character that was still intact. The house needed some TLC and modernization because it was originally built in 1913, but you could feel the potential. I hope you enjoy the improvements that were made.
The two of us stayed for an entire week while visiting DC area for the first time. Charming place to call home for our week. Easy access to metro, grocery store and had everything we needed. Owner very helpful and friendly plus the neighborhood felt very safe. We would definitely stay again.
The petworth garden apartment was perfect for our long weekend in DC. It had everything we needed. Very clean and the shower is so big you can play catch in it. It was nice to know that after a long day of walking in the city we had somewhere comfortable to come back to and relax. Very close to the metro. Overall it was a great stay and we hope to stay here again in the future.
We were looking for a place to stay in Petworth while visiting family. Thie basement apartment worked out well. Short walk to grocery store and Metro station. Full size stove, refrigerator, washer and dryer. Furnishings were nice. Daniel was very helpful making suggestions regarding the area.

This was a fantastic property. Nothing missing at all and the host Daniel was lovely to deal with. Amazing attention to detail for those things you need while travelling. Daniel had great suggestions about how to get about and where all the best food options were. Exceeded our expectations in every way.
This is a beautiful apartment in a wonderful location. We spent four days here and it was amazing. You are just a couple of blocks away from the metro which can take you anywhere in the city, or you can walk down to the local grocery store and make a quiet dinner for two. We went to a Capitals game one night and this apartment is just four stops away from the arena which is AMAZING! We did not even have to change trains. Dan was such an amazing guy with everything, my fiancé really enjoyed the chocolates he leaves as a welcome. He really makes sure guests have everything they might need and makes them feel at home. Recommended.
