About Mrs Suzanne Davy

2006 was actually when I bought the plot of land where Casa Convento now sits and it was completed in 2008. I have always worked in design of some sort, either in interiors, or as a stylist, writer and now, photographer, so it was a dream to design and build my own house, which we also spend time in whenever we can secure a week or two! My husband, a helicopter pilot, and I live in the beautiful, historic city of Bath.

Mrs Suzanne Davy purchased this house in 2006

Why Mrs Suzanne Davy chose Axarquia (Costa del Sol)

The Axarquia area is full of fabulous places to visit and has a great diversity of interest for all. We love the village of Canillas and its people, who are very friendly and greet everyone in passing. From here, it is easy to visit lots of lovely 'pueblos blancos', many of which you can spot from our panoramic dining terrace or sunbathing roof terrace. Behind is the unspoilt wilderness of the National Park, with access for walks right behind the house. We are only 25 minutes panoramic drive from the seaside and many beaches to explore. We have a favourite beach 'club' in Torre del Mar called Bahia de Tanit. Marbella etc are within reaching distance for a ritzy day out.

What makes this house unique

I am always so pleased to have the wonderful response from my guests at Casa Convento who tell me it is utterly blissful, comfortable and way above the normal standard for a rental property. Words such as 'Stunning', 'Heavenly', 'Superb', 'Paradise' are used in my Guest book and reviews.

Having used Owners Direct for some years now, we have enjoyed some fantastic accommodation in locations across Europe, but I have to say that Casa Convento is a bit special. The decor, facilities, cleanliness and comfort are all of the very highest level, making the house a pleasure to return to each day after discovering the surrounding area. Communication with the owner, Suzanne, was very straightforward with the directions and entry instructions being clear and easy to follow. The village itself is also a delight. Great bars and restaurants, friendly locals and a lovely relaxed ambiance make Canillas de Aceituna a fantastic and still largely undiscovered destination. I know its a cliche, but this really is "The Real Spain" and one which I cannot recommend highly enough. A huge thank you to all concerned.

Fabulous house with amazing views

  • 5 of 5

A lovely house with amazing views you would never tire of...just wish that the house was ours! Oh well we could pretend, if only for a week. Thank you Suzanne.

We've stayed in some great houses and gites but our daughters in particular thought this was the best yet.

Just loved the situation of the house; the village itself, the rooms; the friendliness of the local people; how well-kitted out the house was; sitting out on the dining terrace with a glass in hand and listening to the birds and village life...the list goes on. Our daughters really loved the pool (though still very chilly at this time of year!); the 'dumb-waiter' and making friends with the cats in the village.

We enjoyed exploring the area - both on the coast and other white villages. We loved the village of Comares.

The drive up to the house though is a bit hairy if you are not used to it...faint-hearted drivers beware!

February escape

  • 5 of 5

We stayed At Casa Convento from early February for 2 weeks. I was anxious that being February We might be cold but the underfloor heating and the wood burner kept us warm and cosy. We had quite a few opportunities to sit on the terrace in full sun - the view must be one of the best ever.

The house itself is a delight. Beautifully decorated and had every conceivable thing a home should have. We ate out a bit in the village but also cooked in the well equipped kitchen and really enjoyed evenings in.

Hidden gem!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this wonderful "Casa" for 4 nights. It is perfect for 2 couples! The house is amazing, as is the view. I have to say the beds are incredibly comfortable. Between the beds and the blackout curtains, we slept VERY well! The village is a small, Spanish village with several very good restaurants. We stayed in town for most of our stay as it was the end of our trip and we were ready to relax. We did take a day trip to Torre Del Mar, which has a terrific market on Thursdays. Suzanne is a wonderful host. The house is appointed beautifully. She is responsive. We enjoyed our stay very much.

Luxurious house in authentic Spanish village

  • 5 of 5

Although we have visited the Axarquia area of Spain a few times, this was our first visit to Canillas, and what a lovely, unspoiled village it is. Although small we found numerous bars to stop and enjoy a coffee or beer as we explored its narrow streets. There are at least four excellent restaurants too, and although few people we met spoke any English, we received a warm welcome. I would heartily recommend trying the specialties chivo al horno (goat), and morcilla (black pudding) in La Sociedad. Another treat was churros, freshly made by Moses in Angel’s Bar on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Susanne made the process of booking stress free, and she provided a wealth of information about both the house and the surrounding area prior to our trip. The parking camera is a marvelous idea, and even when the spaces next to the house were taken we had no difficulty getting a space in the nearby small car park.

Casa Convento is stunning, decorated and equipped to a very high standard, but at the same time comfortable and practical, and it took no time for us to feel at home. It seems every detail has been thought of and we wanted for nothing. We stayed in October and the weather was unusually warm, we did get some use of the gorgeous pool, but it was rather bracing at this time of year as you would expect. The internet connection was reliable and allowed us to keep in touch with home, and the super comfy beds and black out curtains meant that we slept extremely well. We have returned home refreshed relaxed and already thinking about booking our next visit to Canillas, and we would have no hesitation in returning to Casa Convento if it’s available.

20 mins from the buzz of Costa del Sol and Torre del Mar brings you to the peace and spectacular scenery of traditional Spain where pueblos blancos cling to the hillsides and the sights and scenery enchant year-round. The Axarquia region has a reputation for the best climate in Europe and, steeped in history, it has much to offer for exploration and sense-of-place, from the plethora of white-washed villages to the Nerja Caves' magical formations. Malaga has a beautiful historical centre - and excellent shopping - while Antequera and Granada are within exploring range. The beautiful drive from the coast brings you to Sierra Tejeda National Park and Canillas, where potted flowers decorate the side-streets, mules and goats studiously ignore humanity and the village ladies practice their flamenco in the evening cool. Walk, paint, photograph, picnic, listen to cicadas, taste local wine, sample village specialities – or simply enjoy the tranquillity and comfort of Casa Convento.

Other Activities: walking, painting, photography, wildlife, bird-watching, exploring, picnicking
