This is a rare two-bedroom apartment in historic house. The apartment has security features and is on a safe street. The front door of the apartment is protected with two doors with deadbolt locks.
We stayed in the second floor apartment. Unfortunately, when we arrived at 5PM the apartment hadn't been cleaned. I called Sally(owner) and she was very apologetic and arrived right away and cleaned it (whilst we walked the two blocks to Whole Foods and got provisions.) One bedroom is oriented toward the back of the house, it has a flat screen tv and the bed was comfortable. I slept great! (I always travel with a white noise machine so I'm unable to give observations regarding noise.) The second bedroom faces the street, my 19 year old had no complaints about this room. There is a washer and dryer, full sized fridge, plenty of towels, dishes and utensils. There was a Keurig coffee maker too. There's also a tv in the small sitting area. As others have noted, it's two short blocks to the metro, fifteen minutes to Georgetown and a safe thirty minute walk to FDR, MLK and Korean War Memorials.
**It's also very easy and inexpensive to fly into BWI - catch the B30 bus (7$) to Greenbelt Station (Branch Ave) to L'enfant Plaza Station Blue line (Franconia/Springfield) to Foggy Bottom Station. I couldn't find a metro card machine at BWI, we used exact cash for the initial B30 bus. On the return trip I used the SmarTrip Card all the way.
I will definitely stay here again in the future! Thanks Sally!
Sally was wonderful enough to let us check in early, and had info about the area and apartment posted around the space, which we found to be very helpful. The area was safe and beautiful, with easy access to anywhere in the city. When we return to DC, we hope to stay there again.
Great location, well equipped- convenient for out of town travelers!
The apartment was on a beautiful, tree lined street very close to the subway station and within walking distance (well, we walked it) of the monuments eg Lincoln, Vietnam etc. Good size bedrooms, well equipped kitchen. Bathroom is a bit small and dated but this is a building over 130 years old so it should keep some of its character. Sally was really easy to deal with; very responsive to any requests and helpful with information. The apartment is also a short walk to Georgetown, a gorgeous suburb with great shops and a fantastic waterfront area. Make sure you spend time there. Highly recommended.
I was in town for a residency week at GWU so the location was PERFECT. within walking distance to campus and only a few blocks from the metro. The home has a lot of potential - it is a beautiful historic home. Like many others, I had issues with the layout of the furniture. There was no room for relaxing indoors. The dining table is too large for the area and the sofa/futon is uncomfortable for even one person. My recommendation - downsize the dining table to a round bistro style table, mount the tv on the wall and get a sectional sofa. There are sleeper sectionals available for small spaces. Additionally, the beds were comfortable, but moved around a lot. I would wake up and the bed was all the way against the wall. Overall though, because of the location it was a decent stay. Once my guests arrived though, I did find myself wondering if a hotel would have been better.
We absolutely loved our stay at the Vista apartment. Just arrived home yesterday. There was plenty of space for my husband and I and our three young children. The apartment was clean, inviting and comfortable. The beds were especially comfortable with plenty of linens, pillows and towels provided for our stay. The location was perfect for us. The street and neighborhood were quite charming the the blooming cherry blossoms made it even more beautiful! The apartment is located near GWU, so there is quite a bit of bustle and street noise/talking late into the night. Although, this would not deter us from staying here again, but thought it was worth a mention. We were able to easily make the short walk to and find the Metro station, and then toward the end of the day made the walk from the White House back to the apartment. We took advantage of both the Trader Joes and Whole Foods nearby while we were there. We drove our own car and were able to find a two hour parking spot on the street around the corner to unload our luggage and then found a parking garage nearby for the rest of our stay. Sally was very helpful in her communication from my initial inquiry and questions. I also found all of the instructions and tips around the apartment very helpful. I would most definitely stay at this apartment again and am hoping it's available the next time we are in the area!
We are an 8 minute walk to Washington Circle and a 15 minute walk to the White House
