Boat slips are available in the beautifully maintained public boat landing next to the property - the best on this part of the River! You will love the friendly people of Wabasha, the shops and restaurants. The National Eagle Center is in Wabasha and well worth the visit! After you are done exploring you may want to take a drive across the Bridge to Wisconsin as well, taking note that the next river bridges are about 30 miles north and about 30 miles south of Wabasha. In early SPRING the ice on the river is breaking up and it's a sight to see! Barges start as soon as the entire river is open. SUMMER has its boating, hiking, biking, golf, fishing and bird-watching You can hire river tour guides that will show you the River, eagle nests and great fishing. Enjoy AUTUMN during ' SeptOber Fest' which is held every weekend from the second weekend in September to the last weekend in October. The colors on the Bluffs are breath-taking!!! WINTER also provides fun; Coffee Mill Ski area is nearby and the perennial ice fishing right in the harbor, so check out the Grumpy Old Men Festival in February! The River usually stays open where the Chippewa River enters the Mississippi just northwest of Wabasha. This entices many eagles to stay in the area all winter long. Frontenac State Park just north of Wabasha at Frontenac, MN is gorgeous for bird watching or hiking with it s views of Lake Pepin and the trails in the woods. Whatever you choose to do you will find great people to welcome you.
Gary and Leslie are two retired teachers who have worn 'other' hats as well.
Gary loved to paint houses, Leslie did calligraphy and worked in a financial advisor's office for a time. Right now we are enjoying our new move to Wabasha. We love being in Wabasha because it is a very good place to be! It's also very nice to be able to personally take of our guests at Harbor View if they need something. We are also the parents of 3 adult sons, 3 wonderful daughters-in-law and grandparents to 8.
Have to say that as much as we enjoyed bringing our young boys and our boat to Lake City every summer when we found Wabasha we were delighted. We came over one day in July about 10 years ago and found Harbor View to be perfect for us. The people are what's special about a place and Wabasha has wonderful people. When we returned on one of the coldest days in January we found it to be cozy and peaceful. In the fall we love to sit by the fire-ring as we look at the stars and greet those who stroll by. We love its situation right by the trail within walking or biking distance of everywhere! Out dog has loved it too! And we could leave our boat nearby in a public slip or on the trailer right next door. Now that we live here HV is more available to others. Its been fun to meet people with similar interests to our own.
Wabasha offers a quiet that some of the other rivertowns do not because the railroad and the highway don't run right beside the river here! The first time we saw the National Eagle Center it was just a small storefront downtown filled with the most knowledgeable and accommodating volunteers we ever encountered. It has only gotten better and we are members now. Of course the golf is great and the views from the course stupendous. When we desire a little side trip the small towns up and down the river on both sides offer some exciting diversions for adults and kids alike. We are so impressed with the professional people that provide great art, wonderful theater and a superb variety of music. We could go on and on but we hope you will come and seek out the hidden jewels yourself!
We enjoyed our second visit to this comfortable and convenient rental unit. The owners are very attentive to detail and welcome their guests with a special note. This time we brought our fishing boat and put it in the water at the boat launch just across the street. We also brought our dog and found the walking paths and nearby parks very convenient. We walked to the Eagle Center and stopped for ice cream on the walk back. It was a warm weekend so it was good to spend some time indoors in this cool, comfortable unit.
My husband & I booked a spring weekend getaway in the Sunrise unit. We need to travel with our senior Pug who is diabetic & needs insulin shots twice a day so we were so happy to find this great place to stay with him. Prior to the stay the owners responded to my questions on the unit & area very promptly and provided great suggestions. We were welcomed with a beautiful card, handwritten note and chocolates. The owners provided a binder in the unit with information on parks, trails, attractions, services and restaurants close by. We were within walking distance to the harbor (lots of ice fishing going on!), River Walk, Parks, Main Street, Eagle Center & Slippery's. We also ventured out of Wabasha & crossed the bridge into WI and highly recommend the lookout at Buena Vista Park & nearby Danzinger Vineyards high up in the Bluffs in Alma, WI... was only about a 10 minute drive from the unit. We ate at Reads Landing Brewing Company twice because the location is right off the railroad tracks in front of the River with tons of eagles flying by, perched on branches and hanging out by the open water (Bring a Growler to fill up with craft beer to enjoy later). The unit was so cute & cozy for a chilly spring weekend.... LOVED the fireplace heater in the living room. In the evenings it was nice just relaxing in front of the fireplace watching Grumpy Old Men movies. :) The owners were extremely responsive, welcoming and informative. We absolutely loved staying in the area and cannot wait to return. Thank you for the great Spring Vacation!
Great location. Walk to town. Clean and has everything you need! Looking forward to coming back! Great hosts!
Leslie is very hospitable! She gives you recommendations for your stay based on your interest or weekend intent. The little details in the condo make the stay extra enjoyable - the decorations, local brochures, fluffy towels, a personal note with chocolates on the bed :) The place is very nicely decorated and we enjoyed how updated it is with the fireplace, jet tub, rain shower. It's a really close walk to Slippery's, the river, downtown, and the Eagle Center. While we couldn't hear our neighbors talk, we could feel when they were moving around... Maybe they are heavy footed walkers. Regardless, it was the perfect place for a weekend away from the hustle and bustle of home.
Clean and everything was labeled well.
This property had everything we needed for our family of four. It was clean, nicely furnished, and comfortable. The extra touches, including board games and magazines, as well as a welcome note, made it even more enjoyable. The location was great...walking distance to meals and the river. We found Wabasha to be a pleasant small town, with nice people everywhere we went.
6 miles from our place you will find Lark Toy Company which Readers Digest chose as one of the 10 best toy stores in the world! You will toys for all ages as well as mini-golf with colored water falls, llamas grazing in the back, toy-makers busy at work where you can watch and, best of all, a handmade unique indoor Carousel that you won't want to pass up! Sandwiches and treats are sold there as well. It is an adventure in itself south of Wabasha near Kellogg on Hwy 61.
