Amazing location close to everything! This great 1918 Craftsman was built in 1918 but has all the modern appeal of today. Super comfortable and safe neighborhood. This home has refrigerated air and all the modern comforts. The home is only a few blocks from the convention center, zoo, restaurants and now some really amazing brew pubs.. Old town is only 5 minutes by car. Or sign up for Zagster and rent a bike and get around and explore!

Thomas Mestas

owner/property manager purchased this house in 2004

Why owner/property manager chose Albuquerque

This home is located in a prime downtown location that is close to everything unique to Albuquerque. The home has been in my family since 1956 where my grandparents bought and lived for the entire time they lived in Albuquerque. I bought the home in 2004 and renovated it to house my real estate office. We quickly grew out of the home and made it a rental to one of my employees that lived with his family for several years. I decided to offer this unique home to travelers early this year so we started to prepare the home and we feel that this is a very comfortable and amazing home that you can create many amazing memories.

Fantastic location, no frills

Thomas was extremely helpful and accommodating. House was a little run down. Bathroom sink clogged, the roof leaked both up and downstairs. Overall it was what we needed - a place near the convention center where we could cook, sleep, and work.

Not a bad place to stay but poor service.

  • 3 of 5

My arrival time was set to be Monday at 4:00. Actually arrived at the home at 5:30 had not received codes to access the property at this point. Tried calling property manager, first attempt went straight to voice mail. At this point I started looking for a way to contact VRBO. There customer service line did not work at all. By this point I'm livid. I call the property manager a second time. This time I actually get a live person. They tell me the owner is in a meeting but they will try to get them. I'm then transferred and once again get voice mail. Now I'm really mad. I call back once again and finally get someone who is able to give me the code. It was close to 6:30 before I was finally able to access the house. Remember I was supposed to have this code by 4:00 at my arrival time. Other than that the house was decent. It had it's weird quirks but nothing that limited the stay. I wish they would have sprang for some decent toilet paper and not something that felt like sandpaper but that's a small issue. Stay would have been rated higher if there wasn't so much problem with the initial access of the property.

Would stay again

  • 5 of 5

For the price you can't beat the location and how much room there is in the house. It is an old house so you can't expect too much. The living room and the dinner room had plenty of space. The bedroom up stairs and one bedroom down stairs were nice. The third bedroom is a little creepy but if you're looking for some sleep then it's fine. Not the best but for value and location I give it a 5 star.

Very nice place to say while in Albuquerque- with responsive and helpful owner/manager

  • 5 of 5

We used the Downtown Albuquerque Craftsman house for our international guests, we stayed for a few days. The home was clean, outfitted as advertised and when I needed to change a few details based on last minute information from my guests the owner/manager was available and helpful. I would recommend this property and would definitely use it again.

Not as nice as we were hoping, room for improvement

  • 2 of 5

To start with we were never actually given the address, we wrote requesting it via email to no avail. We ended up having to call. We also wrote to let the owner know we were not bringing our dog, and asked if our pet deposit could be refunded- 10 days later we still do not have an answer either way.

The hot water was my main complaint, there was only enough for one quick shower: and the stall was so small that shaving legs was a challenge. We could not get very hot water upstairs, which was very disappointing because the claw foot tub was a main selling point for us. We tried the claw foot tub hoping it would get warmer, but the water barely got above room temperature. The hot water made our stay pretty miserable, especially since it was winter.

The 3rd bedroom with the futon was super creepy. It had a creepy/ugly closet behind the washer and dryer- no one was willing to stay in that room.

Some positives were that the dining room was exactly as pictured, great for a family meal. Having a washer and dryer was nice, and the downstairs bedroom had a nice little desk nook in it. They had nice things left out like tea and coffe and popcorn, nice touches for sure. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook, and the house stayed nice and warm. We really liked having the ceiling fans upstairs.

In the house there are a couple of doors that don't open all the way without hitting furniture. Upstairs bathroom door hits the claw foot tub, so you have to kind of shimmy in. Upstairs balcony door hits the bed. TV is too big for the entertainment center so it sits at a weird angle. Overall it was not worth what we paid, especially with the pet deposit we can't get an answer on.
