Very charming and wonderful owner

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was well appointed and very charming. Easy to work with the owner who couldn’t have been more responsive and flexible. Bed was comfortable. We stayed on a rainy day and the house had some dampness/mustiness.

Charm, Comfort, Convenience--all in one!

  • 5 of 5

Not only is the Writer's Cottage charming and clean as a whistle but it has all the amenities you could wish for to make your stay comfortable. The host, Michael, welcomed us with a fruit basket and wine--very generous of him and much appreciated. He's clearly interested in making his guests comfortable and giving them a lovely experience of small town life. And if you like a bit of romantic charm, the cottage has that in spades. We couldn't get over the size of the master bath--bigger than our dining room in Brooklyn. If you have a dog, the backyard has plenty of space for him/her to run off energy. Middleburg itself offers lots of interesting shopping--clothes and antiques mostly--and there are a number of good places to eat, have coffee, buy dessert. And then there's the countryside itself: gorgeous rolling hills, places to take your dog for proper exercise, and areas for gentle hiking all within an easy drive. This is horse country, and the local farms dotting the landscape are beautiful. We didn't have time over Thanksgiving to visit the nearby wineries but will on our next trip. In short, we highly recommend the Writer's Cottage for that special getaway.

Qintessential Middleburg

  • 5 of 5

This property was absolutely wonderfull! It was filled with foxes and hunting books and cleaver art. The bed was very comfortable and the master bathroom was luxurious. The kitchen is fully outfitted and the rooms fill with sunlight. It was a fantastic place to spend a week.

Nice, quiet place

  • 5 of 5

This is a nice place in the town of Middleburg. It is in a great location because you can walk to the restaurants, etc...and don't need a car once you are there to get around the town. The place is very quiet which is also nice. I found it to be clean and I appreciated that the owner allowed me to have my small, house trained dogs there with me. There is one bedroom and one huge bathroom upstairs, a smaller half bath downstairs. It was the perfect size for 2 people (and 2 small dogs). As the bedroom is upstairs that would need to be taken into consideration if there is a guest who has difficulty with stairs. There is a couch downstairs that I think could be used to sleep on though we didn't need to do that. There is also a back yard and off-street parking which is nice (although in general parking in Middleburg did not appear to be an issue). The owner seems to be very caring and is very responsive. All in all, a good place to stay if you are looking to stay in that area.

Lovely home in great location but a few things to note

  • 3 of 5

The host is an absolute pleasure and very responsive. I did wish I knew a few things before booking: 1) the kitchen is not clean and is therefore, very much not conducive to cooking anything; 2) though the floors were overall clean, it is clear that they had not been dusted in quite some time--we noticed many clumps of hair/dust scattered sporadically throughout the floors; 3) the couch/fouton/daybed on the first floor is rather uncomfortable, making it unenjoyable to watch movies/shows on the television, which has plastic tape on the screen; 4) the shower has about 10 minutes of hot water and it is very difficult to use--you feel as though you are in a cave with the shower curtains touching you on every side--it is also difficult to get in and out of the shower. The bed was clean and comfortable and you can't beat the location -- it is just important to note that it's not the type of home that is cozy where you'd want to curl up with a book/movie -- it's a great place to stay if you don't plan on cooking or hanging out at home.
