Overview

About the property

3 Queen Bedrooms, I Single Bedroom - 2.5 Bathrooms - Sleeps 7

Casual elegance in a three level Victorian designer home located close to downtown in the upscale Rosedale neighbourhood. The house retains much of it's original period detailing, but has been decorated in a light and airy style.

Walking through an archway up the cobbled path the house is set back from the street . The exterior retains much of its Victorian detailing including the original stained glass windows.

You enter in to a small vestibule with french door and then straight in to the large open concept living dining area. The room is decorated in a casual but elegant style in neural tones of white and ivory with gilt accents. The room is filled with antique treasures acquired on my many buying trips to Europe. There is a small original Victorian working fireplace.

The separate kitchen area has basic cabinetry and appliances but is filled with character and charm with its exposed brick wall and antique wooden island. The room is bright and sunny with sliding doors to a small deck with dining area for two.

Off of the deck there is a private enclosed garden planted with flowers and overgrown with ancient wisteria , trumpet and grape vines. There is a sunny sitting area and a shaded dining area for six. There is a weber bbq.

The painted original staircase leads to the second floor. The front bedroom has a large stained glass window and is the largest of the three on this floor. It has a queen size bed and is decorated in neutral grey tones.

The pretty middle bedroom also has a queen bed and is decorated in pale blue and mauve florals.

The rear bedroom overlooks the garden and is decorated in green tones of moss and chartreuse. It features an antique Directoire period single daybed.

The main bath room on this floor has a marble counter with two sings and a full bath.

Up an open staircase is the master bedroom taking up the full top floor of the house with sloping ceilings and a seating bay overlooking the main street. It has a ensuite bathroom with shower and a sunny roof deck with seating area. There is a daybed in the widow bay that can accommodate a child for sleeping close by. There is a curtain at the bottom of the stairs for privacy. Note:selected drawers and wardrobes in this room will be locked but there is plenty of storage space.

Note that although the house has central air conditioning, the bedroom on the top floor remains quite warm in the summer months. There is a ceiling fan and a cross breeze off off the back deck.

Living in a designer's dream!

  • 5 of 5

I booked this home far in advance of my actual trip. Right before heading to Toronto I went back and read a scathing, 2 star, July review. I thought, oh no, what have I done. It was a 60th Bday getaway for myself and my husband. We were also hosting a friend from Hong Kong who seems to only travel 1st class. Every other review was 5 star then That. So I am here to tell you, Fear Not!!! If what you see, is what you like, it definitely delivers. Linda has lovingly created thoughtful interiors that transport and elevate you. You are embraced by beauty from the largest of spaces to the smallest nook and cranny. Every detail approaches perfection. Just being in this home is a vacation.

Topping it off ,the location could not be more lovely, safe, and convenient. Linda is a super attentive host too. So for all of you who are having second thoughts about booking this home, relax and cast your doubts aside. Linda's home is as charming as it appears in the posting. I am already planning a return trip to see the Wisteria in bloom.

Great Location, Great House, but rooms a little be on the clatter side

  • 4 of 5

This Place, and location is Wonderful. Close to the CBD, and Starbucks nearby! The only issue is the clatter in the house. You will be scared about breaking something! Otherwise i highly Recommend it!

Great location and neighborhood

  • 5 of 5

This home is perfectly located to see many of Toronto's best attractions, yet is on a quiet and tree lined street. The home is as nice as described, and is well-decorated and well-kept. Good communication with Linda throughout the whole process and she has a shop right around the corner from the property so she is immediately available if needed. We had a fantastic time and are very pleased with this property. It gave us plenty of room and was perfect for our family.

Aiming for opulence but missing badly.

  • 2 of 5

My wife and I stayed here for three nights, with Canadian friends when visiting Toronto. From the outside the property is an attractive town house in a quiet leafy residential street. Inside, the house did not live up to the photographs in the advertisement.

Internally the decor style was French country shabby chic. Unfortunately throughout the house shabby had clearly triumphed over chic.

The house had far more pictures, books, lamps and other decorative objects than are sensible in a rental property and far too many of them were damaged or broken. Blinds were broken and the chest of drawers was missing handles in the second floor front bedroom. In the second floor bathroom, the broken crystal door knob was on the work surface when we arrived, the sink plug did not work, the broken sash window was held open with a toilet roll and water poured through the closed window when it rained heavily, soaking the floor. The toilet seat for the third floor bathroom was found in one of the closets. The mattresses on the day beds in the sitting room were stained. I would not have wanted to cook in the kitchen. Doors, shelves and drawers were broken and every cupboard and drawer was overflowing with kitchen equipment or just rubbish.

Lighting, especially in the bathrooms, was hopelessly inadequate. It made shaving and applying make up a struggle. Far too many lamps had either missing or broken bulbs.

There were electrical cables for lamps trailing across the floor of rooms and doorways and there was no handrail to the staircase up to the third floor, which I thought was dangerous. I would be amazed if this met local building or safety regulations.

The size of this property and the clutter everywhere would require days to clean it properly. Consequently the couple of hours between tenants is entirely inadequate and the house is dirty and dusty throughout. A dirt line could be seen on the tall sitting room mirror that indicated how far up the mirror the cleaner could reach.

I was told by our Canadian friends that this was the first time they had been disappointed by a VRBO rental property.

On the plus side, it was conveniently located, there was plenty of space for four people and the beds and bedding were comfortable.

So, would I stay here again when returning to Toronto? The simple and straightforward answer is no. Give me a clean, well-lit, well-maintained, hotel room or serviced apartment, where everything works, any day.
