A real gem

  • 5 of 5

My daughter and I stayed at this lovely Rittenhouse Trinity home while visiting from out of town to attend a family function. Alice met us upon arrival, gave us a tour of the home and left us with some useful information for use during our stay. The home was immaculate with every conceivable amenity. We really appreciated the chilled bottle of wine along with the sticky buns our first night and although we did not partake of the various breakfast items (great restaurants in the area) it was a wonderful, thoughtful touch.

As a native Philadelphian, it was a real treat to visit after so many years with my daughter and show her some sights. Alice's home was the icing on the cake! We enjoyed our walks around Rittenhouse Park as well as breakfast out at Little Pete's, dinner at Barclay Prime and cocktails and assorted hor d'oeuvres at Parc.

This home is perfect for those who have no mobility issues. The stairs were spiral and the handrail is a huge nautical rope!

Thanks Alice for a memorable stay.

Owner's Response: Oh boy! If I could choose my own relatives, I would choose these terrific women. So nice to see a mother and daughter enjoy time together - wish I had joined them - maybe next time?

Christmas in the City

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here over Christmas 2015 and it was a magical, magical time! We usually stay with family, as they are all there, but as our immediate family has grown, we wanted to find a place for the 6 of us and enjoy the city. This is a beautiful house, full of old charm. It is exceptionally clean and nicely decorated. We loved our time at Waverly Place and had a wonderful Christmas!

Owner's Response: What a truly delightful family. I hope they will return, if not to stay at least for a visit. - perhaps to enjoy the newly created garden. One could not host more thoughtful guests!

historic and super clean

  • 5 of 5

It was like stepping back in time but in a good way. The house had been lovingly remodeled keeping the historic elements but with the modern comforts

that make ones stay pleasant. I enjoyed my mooring coffee in the basement kitchen looking out to the small garden. The location was perfect with bus connections very easy. You could walk to most places and enjoy the lovely neighborhood. I would suggest that if you stay more that a day or two more places

to put things would be great. The storage was tight. I would also suggest a wall hook for the hand shower on the top bedroom bath. Other than that I would

recommend it in a heartbeat

Owner's Response: It was a pleasure to meet these lovely guests. If we lived closer to one another, I would certainly enjoy their company. They also treated the house thoughtfully and left everything in perfect order. Their comments are welcome and I am working to incorporate their suggestions. One could not wish for better visitors.

Cool House In a Great Location

  • 5 of 5

This was a great house, and was exactly what we needed, as our other house around the corner did not have enough beds. While I would not recommend it for entertaining (it is simply not big enough), it was a very comfortable spot to bed down at night, and enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning. House was exactly as depicted in the listing, very clean, and well maintained. The owner met us, gave a tour, and was available any time we needed her. The location was great, walking distance to downtown, museums, and great restaurants. I'd recommend Honey's Sit and Eat around the corner, the breakfast was tremendous (just bring cash, as they don't take cards). We would absolutely stay there again, particularly if we were taking a trip with another couple. This house would be perfect for that. Thanks!

A charming house in an ideal location

  • 5 of 5

My wife, two teenage daughters, and I recently spent four nights in this charming historic house in Philadelphia. Each of the two upper floors is an ensuite bedroom, the first floor is the living room, and the lower level (slightly below ground level) is a large well-functioning kitchen, where we tended to spend a lot of time. The stairs in the house are somewhat steep, but easy to manage thanks to a rope handrail (trust me, it works).

The house is conveniently located only a few blocks from Rittenhouse Square. But there are excellent restaurants in the other direction as well, on South Street and beyond (visit Honey's for brunch). The University of Pennsylvania is a little over a mile away, as is the Barnes Museum, which, if you visit nothing else in Philadelphia, you should definitely visit, with the finest concentration of impressionist paintings that I know of in the world. Independence Hall and the Philadelphia Museum of Art are a mile and a half away. If you enjoy walking, these are all within easy striking distance on foot. The river walk along the Schuylkill River is about half a mile away and is very popular with runners, as is Penn Park on the opposite bank of the river.

The house was well appointed, clean, well maintained, and as desribed on the website. The owner was helpful and extremely accommodating with our special requests regarding check-in and check-out times. She couldn't have been more gracious. My wife and I have a daughter who is a sophomore at Penn and plan to hope to return to this property several more times before she graduates. I highly recommend it.

Owner's Response: What a delightful family! One could not ask for better guests to treat my home as though it were their own. I cannot say enough to thank them for choosing 1919 and will truly look forward to their return.
