About Heather

I am blessed to help my sweetheart manage Santa Rosa Horse Company which includes using one of the residences as a vacation rental. I enjoy taking riding lessons at the ranch and helping with the cattle operations.

Heather purchased this cottage in 2010

Why Heather chose Sonoma County

We renovated several of the homes on the ranch for employee housing and we had one extra space for vacation rental use

What makes this cottage unique

Being on a working ranch that is conveniently located provides the perfect balance of country living with ability to tour the area.

Lovely quiet cottage

  • 5 of 5

We are a family traveling w small children, and everyone enjoyed this unique experience. The cottage is fully stocked with what we need, and Heather even left us some delicious gifts from her garden.

Our kids love all the animals they can see just outside of window, and a stroll in the sunset on the ranch is truely beautiful.

If you are someone looking for a resort experience, this may not be the place for you. But for someone who wants a cozy place with an unique experience on a family vacation, this is a perfect place!

Cozy cottage on a horse ranch.

  • 4 of 5

The cottage was well maintained and comfortable, for the most part.

The only drawback was the low sofa...it was difficult to get out of.

Thank you, Heather for the gifts.....we enjoyed them.

Rustic Property

  • 2 of 5

This is a nice spot to use as a base for day trips to nearby wineries, towns, etc. The plus is that Heather is a responsive hostess as issues arise. The negatives are that the unit can sleep more people than it can actually can accommodate if they want to hang out. The sofa-bed in the living room is very uncomfortable to sit on ; and there is no overhead light in the bedroom- only one small bedside table lamp, so after dark you can't hang out in there either. There is a small patio with plastic furniture where you can watch the beautiful horses, but the furniture was very very dusty when we were there. Heather came and hosed it off, but it should have been clean for us. The farm smell can be overwhelming at first, but you get used to it. There is no door to the bedroom. For two people this place might be great but it really needs some TLC and attention to the comfort of the guests.

Unique Alternative to a Hotel

  • 3 of 5

I was in town to take a two day class and brought my Mom with me. I found this place and thought it was ideal due to the price (that weekend the Motel 6 was the same price!), it was close to my class location and my Mom could go for a ride.

It almost worked out. The first two reasons were valid, but sadly, the gal who does the rides was gone that weekend. So no ride for Mom. But plenty of horses to visit and space to walk her little dog.

First the good - private, super quiet, horses in your backyard, quick drive to town and friendly people on the property. Plenty of space for two people and a little dog. Nice kitchen area with new counters and plenty of storage. Gas stove and full size coffee pot - a very important feature for both of us! While it was very stuffy when we arrived - and a concern to me since it was almost 90 each day - but with the little wall unit in the bedroom and the evening breeze, we were not hot. The TV worked fine and had cable. Wifi was reliable and pretty fast too. Plenty of towels, pillows and blankets that were clean and fresh. Full size washing & dryer too.

What was odd - the unit looked freshly painted and was clean - on the inside. Outside looked very neglected and was full of spiders & webs and leaves/weeds. There is no door to the bedroom, which was okay for us but may be odd for more than two people staying. The front door locked, but the bedroom slider door did not. This wouldn't be an issue really, except there are other people living on the property. This made me wary of leaving anything of value in the place when we were out. There weren't many good pans to cook with nor a toaster. And despite the photos, the fridge is not full size, but a mini one. In the living room were some sheer curtains, but in the bathroom it was a pillowcase pinned up and the bedroom slider had something balanced but not attached - it fell on me twice while moving around.

What was bad - the outside not being very inviting to sitting out and watching the horses or the sunset. We would have washed it off but even the hose area was covered in huge webs and dirt. There was another unit/garage in front of us and there was garbage all over the place. The front door locked, but had huge gaps all around and let in bugs. The furniture in the living room needs to be replaced. So old and low that it was actually uncomfortable to sit on.

Good communication with the owner Heather. She offered to provide some fresh goodies for us too. Very nice

A great rustic option close to the pleasures of Sonoma county

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed staying on this working horse farm outside Sebastopol. It was pet friendly and true to the description. The host was welcoming and leaves the place stocked with essentials and a few suprises.

A Tranquil and Unforgetable Stay.

  • 5 of 5

This was a perfect location for our need to be based near Santa Rosa, yet be in a quiet country setting. Having moved away from the area, we truly miss the wine country farm zones. The farm is so peaceful and well run. Guests can stroll by the farms livestock and see the most gorgeous horses up close. Right out the back windows you are priviledged to watch the horses interact and canter around. Really the care the resident animals receive is top notch- and the staff works ceaselessly to take phenomenal care of all the animals. It's a wonderful forgotten work ethic to watch and we felt very blessed to get a close up view. Patty the ranch manager and her crew are beyond gracious and kind. Heather the owner was so sweet and welcoming. We'd feel very honored to visit again God willing. Two family members were in town to ride the Levi's Gran Fondo and the drive over took Ten mins tops--but the real bonus was that the bike race flew right past the farms entrance so we got a front row viewing. A truly terrific weekend! Many thanks Heather!
