I am blessed to help my sweetheart manage Santa Rosa Horse Company which includes using one of the residences as a vacation rental. I enjoy taking riding lessons at the ranch and helping with the cattle operations.
Heather purchased this cottage in 2010
We renovated several of the homes on the ranch for employee housing and we had one extra space for vacation rental use
Being on a working ranch that is conveniently located provides the perfect balance of country living with ability to tour the area.
We enjoyed staying on this working horse farm outside Sebastopol. It was pet friendly and true to the description. The host was welcoming and leaves the place stocked with essentials and a few suprises.
This was a perfect location for our need to be based near Santa Rosa, yet be in a quiet country setting. Having moved away from the area, we truly miss the wine country farm zones. The farm is so peaceful and well run. Guests can stroll by the farms livestock and see the most gorgeous horses up close. Right out the back windows you are priviledged to watch the horses interact and canter around. Really the care the resident animals receive is top notch- and the staff works ceaselessly to take phenomenal care of all the animals. It's a wonderful forgotten work ethic to watch and we felt very blessed to get a close up view. Patty the ranch manager and her crew are beyond gracious and kind. Heather the owner was so sweet and welcoming. We'd feel very honored to visit again God willing. Two family members were in town to ride the Levi's Gran Fondo and the drive over took Ten mins tops--but the real bonus was that the bike race flew right past the farms entrance so we got a front row viewing. A truly terrific weekend! Many thanks Heather!
Had a great time at this property. If you're looking for frills, bells and whistles, this may not be for you. But the property is well-equipped with all the basic needs (including coffee...) such as shampoo, linens, etc. It's a bit out of the way, but if you're looking to stay in wine country, EVERYTHING is out of the way.
Great experience being on a farm. Horses, cows, goats, dogs and chickens are all hanging out with you. The employees are all incredibly friendly - there wasn't a single person that didn't wave hello when we passed.
The only thing I can say on the downside is that there are lots of flies because it IS a farm. Keep the door closed as much as you can or they'll come inside. But they have a fly swatter so put down your Candy Crush and play an old-fashioned game of Fly Killer. On that note - don't think the place isn't clean - it's super well-maintained. But if you're a bug freak - maybe being on a farm is not for you.
Not far from Santa Rosa and the major freeways so location is pretty epic. Even getting to Calistoga in Napa is a pretty easy shot over the mountains.
Great stay! Heather is super-professional. Very accommodating. We will totally look into this property again for our next NorCal visit.
I just spent three nights at the cottage at the Santa Rosa Horse Company. I would stay there again, and again.
If you are looking for fancy, antique laden, perch on the edge of your hard antique chair sipping tea with a pinkie in the air, keep on looking. If you want to feel comfortable and welcome, and enjoy animal sounds and nature, check out this cottage.
I was in town for a three day dog show, traveling "alone" with my two Australian Shepherds. The cottage has a good sized bed room with a King Bed (that can be made into two twins). There is also a living room with a sofa bed. The bathroom has a shower and washer/dryer. The kitchen has everything you need to whip up a meal or three while you are there.
The area is quiet, with a few comings and goings of the people who work and live on the ranch. I loved the snort and whinnies of the horses, the cows, goats, roosters, and lots of wild birds.
I would stay here with my spouse, or maybe a good friend or two. Would be find for a small family as a base for nights after daytime activities.
There are lots of activities in the area, including many wonderful wineries. Just 10 minutes from downtown Santa Rosa, and close to Sebastopol, Guerneville and so much more.
Heather was responsive and friendly and I enjoyed her hospitality. I would (and will) stay there again...!
My family of four came from Texas for a 1 week vacation. We stayed on the ranch for the last 3 days. What a surprise! It was clean, comfortable, and waking up to horses eating breakfast is a real treat! Heather let the cottage fully equipped with laundry soap, dish soap, and even shampoo! We spent half our time in Sebastopol and half our time in Santa Rosa and the cottage was convenient to both cities. Next time we plan on staying the whole week!
When staying long term it was made difficult because there is no full size refrigerator. It's a dorm size and certainly does not hold enough food for a couple meals. There was no dresser, of any type, to unpack your clothes for your stay so you had to live out of the suitcase which made it more difficult. The living room furniture certainly could be replaced. Sitting on the couch you almost go to the floor and since we are older it was very difficult to get out of it. We ended up putting blankets under the cushions so we could sit on it. If these few things would be addressed this could be a very cute get away for anyone wanting peace and quiet.
