'Berwieqa' [english: Summer Asphodel] is a rustic 3-bedroom farmhouse accommodation situated on the outskirts of the quaint town of Qala, on the Maltese island of Gozo. It is located near enough to the town square to be within walking distance of the local essentials, yet safe from the noise which can sometimes accompany the town life. The property, a 3-century-old farmhouse, has been carefully renovated to give it all the featured required by the modern traveller yet maintains all the traditional aspects of Gozitan architecture within its structure, making for a cosy, comfortable and rustic experience that will make you feel like a local.

Poor to say the least

We were hoping for a peaceful and relaxing holiday in Gozo but unfortunately this did not materialise. Upon arrival the owner met us in the village and took us to the property handed us the key and said he lived in the house next door if we had problems and then disappeared. No walk through or explanation of anything in the house. Inside there were no instructions on operating any of the electrical items, There was no DVD player as advised or indeed a tumble dryer. The satellite TV as very limited to say the least.

On our first weekend we had a heavy rain storm and water poured in through the downstairs bathroom ceiling and flowed into the bedroom. The only way to stop it coming into the bedroom was to roll up a rug and form a "Dam". Water also came into the hall through the front door surrounds and the hall ceiling. A small amount also came into the lounge through the ceiling close to the chimney. We advised the owner and he said that he would fix it. Three days later another rainstorm and the same thing happened again.

Not sure if he ever fixed the problem as thankfully we did not have anymore heavy rain.

During our first week we went to use the oven which we found to be so "dirty" that it was not useable and the owner agreed to get it cleaned which he did on our first Saturday which coincided with us losing all hot water for four days. The owner did offer us a key to one of his B/B rooms in the house next door for a shower but we did not take up his offer. Apparently an element in the solar heating or water tank had broken.

Into our second week we decided to use the oven only to find that it was not working. To compensate we were given a few extra saucepans and a griddle pan I guess as a substitute for the oven not working with a promise of the oven being fixed. While he was inspecting the oven I gave the owner a pair of kitchen sissors that were "Thick rust and dirt" from the drawer which he looked at and smiled. I asked if he might want to use them in his restaurant next door. They were taken away and never replaced. The oven was replaced with a "Secondhand" one of course so at least we had an oven for 7 days of our 21 day rental.

All the beds (4) were uncomfortable (yes we tried them all) the lounge furniture was covered in blankets and when we removed the blankets we understood why.

Our opinion is that the owner really only wanted to bank the rent and not provide a reasonable standard of accommodation.

What a lovely holiday we had. Martin was a great host and his property is lovely. The kids loved the pool and the property had all the amenities you need. It is also located in a very quite area

Amazing

We had a great holiday this Villa. It is beautiful and very comfortable. The pool is wonderful, our 2 kids loved it. The owner is very kind and helpful and told us the story of each stone of his gorgeous house (it's 450 years old).

We definitely recommend it !

Super séjour

On a adoré cette farmhouse où on a passé des super vacances. La location est impeccable, avec tout le confort et en même temps, présente une situation privilegiée pour qui cherche le calme. On a profité de la beauté sauvage de Gozo et on s'est bien ressourcé. Martin, le propriétaire, a toujours été disponible et sympathique. En plus, c'est un très bon chef cuisto.

Un très agréable séjour

Farmhouse idéalement placée sur GOZO (plus calme que Malte), nous n'avons pas tout découvert de l'île de GOZO en 10 jours sur place.

C'est une ancienne habitation gozotaine rénovée tout en gardant l'authenticité des constructions locales.

Confort : ok, piscine agréable et propriétaire disponible et sympathique.

Séjour avec nos 2 enfants qui on été ravis, tout comme nous.
