About Ken

Having traveled moderately in my career, I wanted to create a unique lodging experience for guests, with those things typically absent in my hotel stays, including:

Unquestionably freshly laundered linens and comforters; adequate electronic connectivity; reliable high-speed internet; a hamper and liner for collecting and transporting worn laundry; laundered house robes, a loaner umbrella; and a spa-grade bathroom area.

While our rates may be slightly higher than other properties, it comes with a high degree of privacy, comfort and cleanliness.

About Us:

We (Dave and Ken) migrated from the Chicago and New Haven areas 17 years ago and moved to Tampa. Ken served as Director for Information Technology for a large non-profit, and Dave, first as a techie, turned mortgage underwriter. Arlo, our miniature Schnauzer, is our go-to property concierge.

Settling first in the Tampa's Carrollwood suburb we opted to return to the city's core three years ago where we took on the task of rehabbing our investment property of ten years into a permanent home. We love the location and urban feel of living just north of downtown.

Ken purchased this house in 2003

Why Ken chose Tampa Heights

A quaint Tampa Heights neighborhood undergoing significant gentrification in recent years; where neighbors know one another and large oak trees canopy much of the area. A convenience store is located across the street for sundries and snacks. Tampa's weather and nearby attractions make it a great destination for business travel or a getaway weekend.

As the oldest neighborhood in Tampa Heights, it is culturally diverse, inhabited by mostly working class families. If you like eclectic, urban neighborhoods, with lots of ethnic restaurants and conveniences, this is a great place to stay. The owners have lived here for 15 years and know their neighbors.

The home, built in 1923, was scheduled for demolition in 2003. We purchased it in early 2004, completed improvements, and it served as a rental property until 2012. Construction for the new space began in 2013 when we added the guest wing and completed other upgrades.

Come enjoy our great weather and wicked awesome hospitality!

We are LGBTQ affirming property hosts.

Extremely clean, comfortable, and charming property with lovely hosts!

  • 5 of 5

Ken and Dave were genuinely kind and are excellent hosts! Our room was immaculate and beautifully presented. Ken and Dave went above and beyond to ensure our comfort, providing bathrobes, extra toiletries, beach towels, and more! They literally thought of everything. In case you forget something, they have it! In their well-organized handbook, they have even compiled an extensive list of recommended restaurants and sites to visit. The guest room is private and very quiet, and easily accessible without entering the main living area. In addition, you can use the kitchen and living room if you like but you can remain completely private if you wish. The bathroom is spacious and absolutely beautiful! The property is VERY close to all the main attractions in the area, which made it easy for my husband and I to explore so much during our short stay! My husband and I simply loved our stay, and will definitely plan to stay at Ken's and Dave's home again during our next visit to the Tampa area! We can only recommend them to anyone who is looking for a lovely home away from home!

Superb Stay

  • 5 of 5

This was a trip to see my brother in the Tampa Area.

The home and stay was terrific. The house is a beautiful restored 1920s era house that is impeccable.

The bedroom and huge shower/bathroom is very relaxing and very quiet. The rest of the home is large and very enjoyable. The back patio and lounges are great for relaxing in the evenings.

Downtown Tampa is literally minutes away as well as Ynor City. The variety of restaurants and bars and the Amalie Center are all very close.

For VRBOs, this is the nicest and most enjoyable stay yet.

My mini vacation stay.

  • 5 of 5

Five stars are not enough. I would double it in a heartbeat. Ken is a most wonderful host and I enjoyed my morning coffee and chats with him. The sleeping area, bathroom and shower were spotless. I was able to also see the main house - gorgeous. The décor inside and outside is as stated "1920's bungalow suite" as well as outside deck and patio. I was so fortunate to have been told about this rental and glad it was available on the dates I requested. So relaxing - I did not want to leave, but know I will go back when I visit Tampa again. This is the first review I have ever given, and my words will never do this rental property justice. If you choose this property, I can, without hesitation, assure you, you won't be disappointed.

Loved it!

  • 5 of 5

It was the perfect home away from home experience. Dave and Ken were super sweet and despite the fact that they are on the property, they really gave us our privacy. They provided everything we could have needed from extra towels to a first aid kit and a coffee machine in the room. My boyfriend and I had a great stay and would definitely stay there again. 😄

P.S. they have the cutest miniature Airedale Terrior 🐶
