We (Dave and Ken) migrated from the Chicago and New Haven areas 17 years ago and moved to Tampa. Ken served as Director for Information Technology for a large non-profit, and Dave, first as a techie, turned mortgage underwriter.
Settling first in the Tampa's Carrollwood suburb we opted to return to the city's core three years ago where we took on the task of rehabbing our investment property of ten years into a permanent home. We love the location and urban feel of living just north of downtown.
Ken purchased this house in 2003
A quaint Tampa Heights neighborhood undergoing significant gentrification in recent years; where neighbors know one another and large oak trees canopy much of the area. A convenience store is located across the street for sundries and snacks. Tampa's weather and nearby attractions make it a great destination for business travel or a getaway weekend.
As the oldest neighborhood in Tampa Heights, it is culturally diverse, inhabited by mostly working class families, and includes some older homes in need of repair. If you like eclectic, urban neighborhoods, with lots of ethnic restaurants and conveniences, this is a great place to stay. The owners have lived here for 15 years, know their neighbors, and have never had any security or safety issues.
The home, built in 1923, was scheduled for demolition in 2003. We purchased it in early 2004, completed improvements, and it served as a rental property until 2012. Construction for the new space began in 2013 when we added the guest wing and completed other upgrades.

I rented this property with the intention of having a full kitchen to cook for my college freshman who is missing her mom's home cooking. The kitchen far exceeded my expectation as did the entire experience. The hosts were incredibly generous and open. The house had every creature comfort imaginable. I will stay there again for subsequent trips to Tampa. The location is ideal for downtown. The grounds and property were pristine and exceptionally comfortable. I would highly recommend this property to anyone visiting Tampa.
What a fantastic experience. We booked again for our next visit!! Ken greeted us on arrival with a kind and calm personality. Room is extremely clean and comfortable. Everything you need is provided. 100℅ better than a hotel stay. Backyard deck is heavenly and peaceful. Thank you Ken!!
We came down to Tampa for my wife's birthday. Ken and Dave were great hosts. This 1920's Bungalow was centrally located near any place or activity you want to explore. Minutes from downtown Tampa & a short drive to St Pete's. We had our own separate entity and was able to relax and enjoy the serene environment that these two gentleman provided. The back deck and yard provided peace and comfort. I can't say enough about Ken who I had the most contact with. He made us feel so at home. Meeting him was like running into and old family friend that you hadn't seen in years. That's how comfortable they made us feel. The property is as beautiful as described. There was an excellent Chinese restaurant call yummy house within 3 miles of this property. I highly recommend trying it if you enjoy Chinese food . I would highly recommend Das Bärenhaus for your visit to Tampa. I can't wait until our next trip to Tampa. We will definitely be booking this Bungalow again. Hope they will be ready for us! 5 stars all day!!!!
The accommodations were very comfortable and tastefully done. I'll definitely look to stay there whenever I'm in Tampa again.
