Our home is located in NW Montana on Angel Island. We are ON THE LAKE (not the canal). Angel Island is 60 miles east of Sandpoint, Idaho and 30 miles southwest of Libby, Montana. The island is situated on 5 mile-long Bull Lake, with bridge access over a canal.

Our beautiful house sits on a pie shaped lot with 150' of beach frontage. It sleeps 13 people comfortably on 3 levels with an open spiral staircases between loft, main floor and lower level. There are lake views from all three levels with loads of light from the many windows.

The home's private beach includes boat dock and floating swimming dock. Guests have a fire pit area and barbecue. Privileges on Angel Island include 2 public swimming areas, boat launching spot and tennis courts.

Local area offers wildlife and recreational activities that are plentiful and numerous. Take a hike in the Cabinet Mountain wilderness or to the Kootenai River suspension bridge and falls. Fish for perch, bass and fresh water salmon out your front door; bird watchers will delight to see blue heron, woodpeckers, grebes, loons, osprey and a wide variety of other wild birds and waterfowl. Different seasons bring beaver, muskrat, deer and moose.

About Karen McKean Updike

This is a picture of my family. I was born and raised in Libby, MT. My parents, Les and Shirley McKean, built this home. When they needed to move closer to town, we bought it in order to keep it in our family. Setting up the vacation rental is what makes it possible to keep it.

Greg and I live in SE Alaska and get to MT as often as possible. Our kids are all in Oregon attending college.

Gorgeous Setting BUT... just understand its Off The Grid too (4.5 stars)

We had a very pleasant stay at Bull Lake during September 2017. Very quiet location, wonderful lake views, and convenient to nice sightseeing spots at the Falls and Cedars- The home was Very Clean, Pet friendly - but no pet smells, Had a well stocked kitchen, and very important- it also has Comfortable Beds. There was only one thing that did not meet our expectations and that was the internet connectivity. To say this home has internet- is almost only a half truth. One of our guests we knew was going to need to be able to access their email each day, and this was a key reason we chose this home - because it had internet. However, the internet we found was sometimes non existent or other times just too slow to really be of much use at all. Signal was simply too weak. We even tried using our own Verizon hot spot and there isn't any cell signal to be found here either. So just be prepared that you may need to drive into Troy before you can get a cell signal. All that said, we would still recommend this home, but just feel it should be clear that internet is not really an amenity here you should count on.Now If you're looking for a true "get away off the grid" kind of relaxing vacation - then this place is simply awesome.

Owner's Response: After this review was posted, we called a technician right away because we didn’t know there was a problem. We found out that our modem needed to be replaced. The carrier thinks it was shorted out during a power outage caused by lightening or winds. The internet is now working. We are here at our home using it. I am looking out at the beautiful lake with fall colors and critters coming and going. While at the same time, I am working remotely on my laptop. I am able to stream radio, receive and send emails with attachments and watch short video clips. It is not the fastest internet but it has been reliable for me to work remotely while we are here.

It was a cute and nice cabin with the lake right at the tip of your toes. Had towels, blankets, pillows, dishes, pots and pans for use. Great stay! Thank you!

Wonderful atmosphere on Beautiful Bull Lake

The home is very warm feeling with loads of charm and a wonderful view and access to Bull Lake. They have tried to have everything there, that you could want to help make your stay a memorable experience. We loved eating out on the deck, watching the humingbirds and swallows. The kids liked the bunk beds, and playing tunes on the player piano. We caught bass and pike off the dock. The evenings by the campfire were wonderful. We also enjoyed using the canoe, row boat and paddle boat. The only reason I gave this home four stars is that the dock is not really set up to tie a boat to. We had two surfing boats so had to rig up anchors, with bouy's to tie the boats to, off shore.

Owner's Response: Our dock is about 100 yards from bird nesting grounds and our beach is located on a beautiful corner of the lake near where underground springs bubble up all year round attracting a variety of wildlife. This natural setting has also been a great spot for our family and 20 years of vacation renters to have loads of fun playing in the water with all sorts of watercraft. Our children, nieces, nephews and friends learned and continue to water ski on Bull Lake. Over the years, the dock has been used to tie up 1 to 2 power boats at a time. The dock is 36’ x 6’ and anchored with six - 3” steel rods (10-20 feet deep). We have fender bouys on one side of the dock and metal cleets to tie up to. The water depth under the dock changes throughout the seasons. Although we have never needed to do this in the past, renters with vessels that have a deeper draws may want to check with us about water levels if they are coming in the mid to late summer.

Still The Best Outfitted Stay

We returned to Bull Lake a second time and the location did not disappoint our expectations. The house was just as we remembered it. We were here a few more days this time around and we left with a bigger appreciation for the location and amenities of this rental. We were in the rental supplied canoes every day. We enjoyed the warmth of the wood burning fireplace on the rainy days and we enjoyed the lakeside deck on the sunny days. We roasted marshmallows on the open fire pit and the swim area off the dock. The location on the lake itself is ideal. The house is on a corner lot and the neighbors are not as close as virtually all the other homes in this neighborhood. The place is quiet and the grounds are spectacular. I don’t know about other times of the year, but in June, the fishing in the shallows to the east of the property is great fun from the canoes. Just after sunset, big pike and bass go hunting up the shallow boating channels of the reeds and a simple balsa fish lure will snag you some big fish, some too big to bring in on my woefully undersized line. The fishing poles provided by the owner work great for this fishing, but bring your own tackle. If you didn’t, just visit the Bait ‘n Booz shop in Troy for the little lures you will need to catch what you want alongside the edges of the reeds where motor boats won’t go. My family is already scheming about when we will return.

Breathtaking fall getaway

My friend and I stayed here for a week. My family had a cabin on Bull Lake when I was growing up but it's no longer there so I wanted to revisit the lake and share it with an old friend. The cabin had everything anyone could want, had comfy beds with great separation for privacy. It was well stocked for cooking and the views were amazing! Saw bald eagles and deer in the yard every morning. Karen advised us on where to hike and what to see while we were there. I will definitely be renting this cabin again and inviting my family next time.

Excellent, Again

This was our third stay at this property. Again, everything was as advertised. Love this cabin and how it sit right on the lake but back out of the flow of other boaters and traffic. Already thinking ahead to another visit.
