THE SETTING: “Fiddler’s Green” is a uniquely romantic and beautiful beach house on 2 private acres with an oyster shell drive. It was built in 1961 and totally renovated in 2005. The property has dozens of huge trees and 800 feet of private bay front and bayou shoreline. The house sits amidst pines, magnolias, and oak trees hung with Spanish moss. St. Andrews Bay is about a mile wide at this point and naval and commercial shipping vessels are commonly seen going in and out of the bay, providing an enjoyable spectacle. The wildlife is similarly interesting, with the bay attracting many birds including egrets, herons, pelicans and the like. Dolphins occasionally swim up under the dock. (Please see the video! And remember to turn on your sound when you do)
A long thin spit of uninhabited land provides a nice morning beach walk and divides the bay from the bayou; it is home for a group of deer which you are likely to see. The bayou is usually inhabited by an alligator who keeps the fish jumping. (Fishermen are especially fond of this area!) Morning sunrises are spectacular across the bay and in the evening the twinkling lights of St. Andrews create a fairyland view from the house as well as the dock.
THE HOUSE: Is beautifully decorated with antiques and art and is extremely comfortable. The large and fully equipped kitchen has a copper-topped bar open to the water view and to the large central living space which comfortably accommodates all sorts of activities: dining, reading, conversation, TV, fireplace, projects and games. It faces a window wall featuring a 180-degree panoramic view of St. Andrews Bay, providing the constantly changing scene of wildlife and boating activities. There are three bedrooms each with its own bath. Two have queen-sized beds and bay windows with window seats and gorgeous views. The third has extra-long twin beds which can be combined for one king-sized bed. The master bath offers two separate sinks, enclosed toilet room with bidet feature, claw-foot tub, separate stall shower, and walk-in closet. Other rooms include a private office off the kitchen with his and her desks and a laundry room.
CHILDREN: Are welcome at Fiddler’s Green. The beach abounds with fiddler crabs and hermit crabs which children typically delight in observing or capturing for play. There is a swing that is set among the pines with long, long chains, for a long smooth ride. It is convertible for toddlers’ use. There is a portable crib available for infants in the linen closet.
THE BAY and THE DOCKS: The long dock allows for boating but is also a perfect outdoor room for morning coffee and the sunrise or evening cocktails under the stars with a cooling breeze. There are 4 swivel-tilt chairs to allow you to follow the clouds and the wildlife. There is another small dock on the bayou useful for jet skis, canoes, kayaks or small fishing boats. Because tides are variable and can be quite low, the boat you rent or bring needs to have a shallow draw. For a group, pontoon boats work well and are easily rentable at several nearby boat rental facilities; St. Andrews Marina is directly across the bay and provides boat services and gas.
OUR RESTRICTIONS: We will allow only small well-trained pets who you feel confident would not scratch or dirty the furniture. A pet deposit of $300 is required. It will be refunded upon inspection after the guest leaves. We strictly limit the number of overnight guests to 6.
WHAT’S NEARBY: There are two highly rated golf courses within two miles of the house and the nearby Wyndham Bay Point Resort also offers tennis, a spa, restaurants and various other services. St. Andrews State Park is renowned as having “one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.” It is set in the midst of a beautiful 1100 acre wildlife sanctuary. It is only a short drive away as are numerous restaurants including the famous Captain Anderson’s, that offers ferryboat rides to Shell Island and dinner cruises as well as a delicious menu.

We are a long married couple with 3 children and 6 grandchildren. Boyd is a retired Radiologist. His avocation concerns ancestral health. He is widely considered the 'father' of the Paleolithic movement beginning with a seminal paper published by the New England Journal of Medicine and the book 'the Paleolithic Prescription' that followed. It detailed the diet and lifestyle of our remote ancestors and how that relates to current health promotion and disease prevention issues. He is a 'health nut' who works out every day. Boyd is originally from the state of Maine, to which they return every summer to spend time with the wider family, children and grandchildren, the lake, and the loons.
Many of Daphne's interests remain in the decorating field --doing projects for friends and family and especially arranging flowers for church and friends. She is an avid reader and duplicate bridge player who works out with Boyd, but does it kicking and screaming.
She used her design talents in 2004 to completely "re-do" Fiddler's Green, concentrating on using the family's collected pieces to create an oasis of serene comfort surrounded by nature.
Daphne Eaton purchased this house in 1998
Daphne and Boyd bought the house from the estate after her parents' deaths because they could not bear to sell a place with so many wonderful memories attached! The house was designed and built by her parents in the early 1960's primarily because they loved sailing and so they always kept a sailboat there. Her father (a physician) was a talented amateur architect and her mother was an artist. The unique design of the house is a testimony to their joint creativity. Their lifelong love affair is celebrated in a mosaic tile table in the living area that they designed and personally made. In it are embedded symbols that translate into: 'man + woman = infinity.'
We love the solitude and privacy of Fiddler's Green for reading, study, romance, and hobbies while enjoying the wildlife and the ever-changing scene on the bay. We love the friendships that have grown from the fact that it is so easy to be with other people in this house --there are places to do things as a group or by oneself and still be nearby, in view and in earshot, and always enjoying the view. There is a table for puzzles or projects, a table for bridge or backgammon, a wonderful lazy Susan table for dining, and plenty of good light for reading. The private "his and her" office has two separate desks and plenty of work space. Since many people need to bring at least a little bit of work with them wherever they are, the office provides closed-off quiet, though still enjoying the view. Wi Fi is available all over, and the new large flat screen TV in the great room is capable of streaming Net Flix and Amazon. The kitchen is wonderfully equipped for one who enjoys cooking and the fact that it is open to the great room means the cook is part of the conversation!
Our host and property manager, Gary Long, is available to guests to help them any way he can -our repeat guests often include him in their plans for meals and golf!
....Also want to say that for 10 years we have vacationed with our children, (who are now grown) in PCB. This is without a doubt the best place we've stayed. Not sure if it is the location, furnishings in the house, the attention to details, the solitude, or what exactly, but we love it!
(maybe all of the above) I know there have been a lot of happy memories made here by you and your family down through the years. Thanks for this special memory for my husband and I. We are celebrating our 29th anniversary.
This home and property is a "one of a kind gem" and could never be duplicated. We truly enjoyed our time, the privacy, and the awesome views. The house was exactly as described and for two couples, it was like having two master suites with a spare bedroom.
The walks around the property were very relaxing and the lagoon reminded us of the movie "Golden Pond". We enjoyed watching the variety of birds that gathered in the lagoon and the pier was a perfect place sit and listen to Otis Redding's "The Dock on the Bay".
Thank you for sharing this place and allowing us to experience something so special.
We will return!

Beautiful home and property!!! This is truly a home away from home. The moment you pull into the long driveway, you feel relaxed. The grounds are immaculate and the views are breathtaking! Thank you for sharing your beautiful place with us. We appreciate all the hospitality and really enjoyed meeting Gary! He was very nice and so helpful during our stay. This by far has been my favorite rental! Our dog loved it too! We look forward to a return trip soon! Thanks for everything!

A beautiful house, well designed, fully appointed with everything one could need, AND located in the most beautiful setting with thoughtful owners! What more is there to be said? We had a lovely Thanksgiving week.
We had a wonderful time at Fiddlers Green. We all enjoyed the sea life that we got to see while on the dock. We brought our kayaks and kayaked around the bay. The privacy and peacefulness was nice too. Pontoon rentals are just up the bay! And it's only a few minutes from public beach access.
Everything you may need is just minutes away.
Beautiful property. Very well appointed, peaceful and convenient to the beaches. Better than expected.
Our first impression was "Wow!", and from there we were NOT disappointed! This was such a beautiful home to relax in or outside by the water! We loved being able to fish on the dock, and the kids could play and explore. The beaches and anything else we wanted to do wasn't far away! I recommend this rental to anyone looking for something "off the beaten path". We can't wait to return!
Fishing from the dock and in the bayou is fantastic! Quotes from guestbook include: 'Super place for our family fishing trip. Monday: Red snapper, vermillion snapper, grouper, trigger fish and lost a cobia (boo hoo). Tuesday: Great day of fishing. All the same fish. Wednesday: we went out 40 NM offshore and caught 20 of the biggest snapper I've seen here in 15 years.....' Another says, grill! It was fantastic!' Other favorite things that guests mention are'early'My brother came in from Arkansas and with his help we caught and ate, fish, alligator and squirrel --all from the property ground! (We did leave plenty for the future guests)' A third says,'We caught a full sized 3 lb. octopus by the pier wand cleaned it and cooked on the grill... mornings watching sunrise on the dock...the amazing (awesome, fantastic, lovely, exquisite) house (piece of Paradise) with its 'unique personality'... ' Rental pontoon boats, waverunners, spa, tennis and golf are all available from the Wyndham Bay Point Resort less than 2 miles away. 10 minutes from St. Andrews State Park ('one of the 10 most beautiful beaches in the world). With its 'sugar beaches' Panama City Beach offers all the usual beach activities as well as a water park and fun houses. Pier Park, at the far end of the beach, is a shopper's heaven, with all the usual chain stores, boutiques, big-box stores, eateries of every sort, you'd expect, plus a 16 screen theater with IMAX. It's an all-brand-new, squeeky-clean mall right on the beach, with eye-catching, distinctly 'beachy' architecture. It is reachable in 20-30 minutes by Highway 98 or a bit longer by Front Beach Road, where all the huge hotels are worth a look.
